Always loved this series of games as you recruit and develop your team. But really, absolutely no change in the graphics engine or it would have been nice to see a few additional player mechanics or wraps. Poor, poor show.
One of the most broken game ever created. Limited overs format gameplay is completely joke. You see tailenders score 50+ partnerships on regular basis.
That only 57% of players have completed a single season says it all. Not only has the appearance of the game and graphics barely changed since pre 2010, the scripting, though CT will deny it, makes the game feel so pointless. I came to this version from playing ICC 2005 which tbh is way more enjoyable, and if it had the accommodation of modern formats and players actually hit sixes in one day formats, there would be no reason to have ever made more versions. In this version top-middle order collapses are abundant, players like Jos Buttler are absolutely terrible, no matter how you ask them to play, and this rolls into another point about state of game. If you are in the last 20 mins of a session you will absolutely lose one to two wickets. IRL this period is particularly dangerous, people's concentration goes, and they nick off, and of course one wicket can bring two, but it is so regular here as to be distracting. You know it's coming, no matter what you do. I reloaded innings in different games across as season, and it just keeps happening. 1 aggression, out. 4 aggression, believe it or not, back to the pavilion. No aggression or a lot of aggression, you guessed it, someone's getting out. Batting in this game feels so pointless even bsides the fact you know players are getting out just because a session is nearly over. So often players will get between 0 and 8 runs, no matter who they are. There is no concept of form or even class. Someone will do absolutely nothing then score 175 just to keep the prescribed average up. It is nigh on impossible to keep run rates down as a bowling side, you just have to hope you have ok bowlers. I found just bowling full and straight almost throughout was the best way to get teams out, which is crazily unrealistic. There is no nuance in bowling. try and bowl dry, hang it outside off stump? You better believe they're hitting sixes over mid wicket. Even despite having a ball tracker, and three ways of directing your bowlers' line and length, it remains, some 25 years into this game's life, absolutely not what happens in game. Why is Jimmy Anderson getting cut for six when he's bowling full? It's not like he's a wild tyro, spraying it about. Why is there no option to be a different type of bowler? A top of off stump bowler, a back of a length, attack the body bowler etc? There is just no innovation, and no realism in this series. It could be really good, but it just isn't. It somehow feels like your less in control than the version released 18 years ago, and you're playing the game engine, not the opposition. How is this game still so disappointing? There should be no reason that people are still hopefully awaiting the new release of Cricket Coach, a game last seen in 2014, but they are, because this series wastes it's dominance. Apparently CT have a small team putting it together. That doesn't cut it. They've been making plenty of money over the last quarter of a century out of this game to pay a development team and advance the series effectively, but somehow it's less enjoyable. Such a wasted opportunity year on year, bring on Cricket Coach 2024.
