Game has been abandoned by the devs. No more development not even 6 months after release. Early Access rules state, that a game must be funded and cannot rely on Early Access to fund the game. This game did exactly that. Here is the part from their post that underlines this:
Unfortunately, our sales haven’t reached the level needed to sustain ongoing development. For that reason, we’ve made the difficult decision to pause active development of Cosmic Miners for now. First of all, yes, the game is in Early Access, and everyone should be aware of that and be aware that bugs and other issues may occur. But here's my take on the game. I've sunk almost 6 hours into the game and hope for updates soon so I can sink even more time into it. So, the pros: + Cool idea for gaining reputation on the station / It's important to be careful where you invest what + I think the implementation of mining, whether manual or via drone, is great + Consumption of resources like oxygen or food + Use of reputation points to acquire crew members and new ship modules + Graphics fit the game But there are also negative aspects. - There's no mission overview to find out more details, such as who's sending the mission, where exactly I need to go, etc. - Missions that don't work... e.g., destroying pirates in the asteroid belt... I've done that five times now and never found a pirate. Once the mission is over, the pirates suddenly attack me. - Then there's the weapon system... I can't hit the pirates, and whether I'm in "Auto Target" mode or not doesn't matter. I even tried it with a full crew... the developers need to take action here. - Another negative aspect of the weapon is that when docking at a station, you have to confirm "yes or no" for docking. I always fire my primary weapon when doing this... stupidly arranged, but a change in key bindings is supposed to happen. However, the primary use of the left mouse button should also be prioritized for clicking "yes or no." - Module Booster... I don't know if the booster is working properly, as I only notice a minimal difference to normal flight speed. Tests have shown that the booster at level 1 makes no difference. The booster at level 2 did reduce flight time by 1 second. - The individual missions don't match the player's, let's say, "current level." For example: You're supposed to fly to the Vireon Sector to negotiate with the leader at the Crypt Station. For this, you get 500 BTC and +1 reputation. The flight time, however, is so long that you farm resources, sell them, then invest them once in support, and get far more BTC and +1 reputation than if you invested about 15 minutes of time flying back and forth. As I said, it's an Early Access game, so I hope there will be updates soon that fix problems, errors, and/or bugs before moving on to the roadmap. Otherwise, a nice way to pass the time.
Coming from a decent number of space games, I can say that so far, I enjoyed everything except the mining. I come from EVE, space engineers, star base, Astrox and a few other games and just can't enjoy this for of mining. Maybe if there were different kinds of mining I could get behind it. I just can't enjoy this. I wanted a space mining sim where I could shoot rocks with lasers without ganking pvp jerks ruining things or even manage a swarm of drones slowly chipping away at ore for me while I watch my ore hold fill up. For what it is, you got a beautiful looking game, handles well, only thing that takes a bit of time is the stations and UI. But, those will settle in as I use them, informative but just takes some getting used to. The only thing missing from this game is a bigger cargo and an ACTUAL mining experience, not a quick gather, but actual mining experience that's upgradable, customizable is the point of the game and it's missing. That and maybe a few different mining ships, If I'm going to be staring at a ship for hours, I want to be able to switch and customize it.
Love the graphics. Atmosphere and effect looks good. Needs more sound but since its EA, hoping that will be done soon. I feel like its gonna offer so much more once the road map is completed, so waiting for the new updates.
I actually surprised because as far as I know, this game has very small developer team. IDK if I can call it a team but yeah, very small. This is a game for this concept's it's enthusiasts. Game economy looks fine and not so easy even at the start. Stations could have more space between them probably. I also would like to see different UI s for stations which can felt like different markets. Also there could be more gameplay music then just 1. (somehow I didn't get bored by it but just saying) Needs lots of work but I'd come to play again for relaxing my mind.
Overall, I found the game to be successful. At first, it took me some time to understand how everything worked, but after a while, I started playing more smoothly. It's a fun and fluid game. In other reviews I read, people mentioned that it was difficult to keep up with the missions, but I personally didn't experience that issue. I believe that was a problem before the recent updates. I liked the ship modifications and the variety of missions. The visual content is also well-prepared. As I said, overall it's a successful and enjoyable game. That being said, I do think some things still need to be updated or improved: More variety could be added to the mining system, and being able to craft things from the materials we collect would make it more fun. I mentioned that I liked the ship modification system, but it could be a bit less complicated. Also, there can be some technical issues from time to time — if I come across any, I plan to report them via the Discord channel. Considering it's a new game developed by a small team, I think you've done a great job. I'm sure future updates will make the game even more smooth and enjoyable. Well done, I wish you success, and I hope all players have a great time!
The game is an alpha at best, still far from Early Access. The controls are terrible. Aside from the fact that half of the key bindings can't be changed (yes, you can change them in the options, but many aren't reflected in the game), you constantly have the engine jet in your face while navigating. There's also no visual indicator, so you have no sense of how fast you're going, and you're constantly crashing into things. Oh yeah, strafe left/right works like an emergency brake; you stop instantly. Additionally, every time you're supposed to click something, the mouse focus is in the background, so you always shoot first and only trigger the desired reaction on the second click. In general, the mouse controls are absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Whenever I start the game or a menu opens, the mouse pointer jumps to the top left corner of the screen. If I die, I can't load the last savegame or go back to the main menu because the mouse is no longer responding. I can access the menu with ESC, but I can't select anything there, and I have to quit the game with Alt+F4. It's just silly! The combat is downright ridiculous. Enemies fly like they're on rails and will shoot you down in seconds, even on the easiest difficulty level, even if you're way outside their firing arc. And if the enemies don't hit you, you do it yourself by simply flying into your own projectiles, which are actually even slower than your ship. The UI is very confusing. You can show/hide each information block, but not individual, unimportant information within a block. So the UI is either completely overloaded with useless information or missing important indicators. The save system is the worst I've seen in a long time. It only saves automatically when docking/undocking at/from stations; there's no interval and no manual (quick)save. So if you're out for a while and suddenly get one-shot by several pirates, everything since the last undocking is gone. Stupidest design decision ever! On top of that, the saves are buggy. I buy an upgrade, undock (now the game automatically saves, so the upgrade should be saved, too), get shot down, reload – both the money and the upgrade are gone. Text, graphics, and voiceovers are all AI-generated. You can imagine how exciting it is to read the same phrases and hear the same voices in EVERY DAMN game of the last few years. The translations are also AI-generated and haven't even been roughly checked. They're often just stupid, incomprehensible gibberish. As a native german speaker with only school english from 30 years ago, I understand the english in the game better than the AI-generated german. That pretty much says it all. I really can't recommend this crap to anyone in good conscience. There are too many good games out there that are worth my time and money.
Very cool concept but very little content yet! .. But if they not abandon this and keep work the style they started... This will be a Great Game!!! I have to say now that i play it some, this game is not ready at all .. way to clumsy and wierd controls. so wait to buy to people start say ..now its working:)
game was kinda meh even before development was paused. Hold off on buying unless they unpause and make progress
