coolmathgames is woke (good)

"Coolmath Games: The Game" is a badly msde set of educational minigames based off the "Cool Math Games" franchise that was anything but cool. This isn't even a PC game, it's a browser/Flash game that the developer burned $100 on to get it published on Steam Direct... where it was promptly ignored by everyone. For obvious reasons. What do you do in the game? Very lame "high school game dev project" tier Flash minigames (I know, they're not made with Flash, but they're indistinguishable from a Flash game). For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images (well, it is a browser game). And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
*Coolmath Games: The Game* is a fun, quirky point-and-click adventure that brings the spirit of Coolmath Games to life. You play as an intern at the company, tasked with helping out the team by solving puzzles, chatting with the characters, and preparing for a big game launch. It’s a short and sweet game, lasting around 30 to 60 minutes, and it really captures the lighthearted, playful vibe of the Coolmath Games website. The art style is simple but charming, with a sketchbook-like aesthetic that’s easy on the eyes and fits the game’s casual tone perfectly. The music is catchy and upbeat, setting the mood for a fun and laid-back experience. The characters are one of the highlights, each with their own distinct personality. You get to interact with them in choice-based conversations that let you shape your intern’s responses, making the dialogue feel personal and engaging. The puzzles are enjoyable, though they’re not too complex. They’re just the right level of fun for a quick, casual experience, and they’ve got a nice variety. It’s clear that the developers put some love into creating puzzles that remind you of classic Coolmath Games, which makes it even more fun for fans of the site. However, if you’re looking for a deeper challenge, the puzzles might feel a bit too easy, and the game is relatively short, so replayability isn’t huge. That said, the game is packed with little Easter eggs and references to Coolmath Games, which is a big plus for fans of the platform. It’s those nostalgic touches that really make the game stand out. Whether you’re reminiscing about *Run* or *Bloxorz*, there’s plenty here for longtime Coolmath enthusiasts. Overall, *Coolmath Games: The Game* is a light, charming experience that offers just enough fun to brighten your day. It might not be the most challenging game out there, but its cute art, fun puzzles, and witty characters make it a delightful way to spend an hour or so, especially if you’ve got a soft spot for Coolmath Games.
cute little 30m point & click puzzle
A charming little game with an appropriate nostalgia for point and click puzzle games, the cool math games of years past we all whiled away whatever hours we could on while we were in elementary school, and a very genuine affection for why people make and like videogames. There's replay value in here, too, because even though I beat the game in under an hour, I didn't beat everything, and I know the ending can go multiple ways. The best and worst feature of the game is that there's no save system. Instead, there's a password feature, where the game gives you a password to enter to return to different points in the game. I appreciate the commitment to the bit.
