Coolmath Games: The Game

This game is a very cute short puzzle/comedy game and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

"Coolmath Games: The Game" is a badly msde set of educational minigames based off the "Cool Math Games" franchise that was anything but cool. This isn't even a PC game, it's a browser/Flash game that the developer burned $100 on to get it published on Steam Direct... where it was promptly ignored by everyone. For obvious reasons. What do you do in the game? Very lame "high school game dev project" tier Flash minigames (I know, they're not made with Flash, but they're indistinguishable from a Flash game). For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images (well, it is a browser game). And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at [b]only 4 concurrent players[/b]... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

It is a neat little puzzle, point and click, fun characters, interesting puzzles, cute art style, replay ability is not too high unfortunately but it still can be a fun 30 to 60 mins. Though if you are not a fan of CoolMathGames (the site) you may not have as much fun. A lot of the charm is definitely from seeing the CMG aesthetic. I would give it a 3.5/5. Fun, not that amazing tbh. (if you want a really amazing game check out thier other puzzle, point and click, phenomenal).
