This is one of those games I'm torn on recommending. Back in ye olden days of high school, I had a few friends who were into Steven Universe. I watched it and hung around the edges of the community so I'd have one more thing to talk with them about because they were neat (maybe they still are, haven't checked). Cool Kid Cody is like Steven Universe but better, which is both its greatest strength and the thing that makes it hard to recommend. It's less quirk-chungus, more confident, less meandering, more unitary, less baffling, more relatable. I played Cool Kid Cody knowing full well that it will probably never get me anything beyond what I took from it myself. I spent twelve hours in this story and in the end was determined to see it through on its own merits. I didn't do that for Steven Universe, I stopped watching it the day those friends lost interest. Yet, when I got to that end, I understood how Steven Universe's fans must have felt. The authors were scared to do what the story demanded of them. I'm on the edge here. You can play the first 90% and not think anything is wrong, but the climactic showdown aborts itself before anyone gets seriously interrogated, then it's story over, conflict resolved, no fuss, no muss, and don't worry, there's no hard feelings from anyone about the cataclysmic events that the feud caused. Enjoy it all you like, just understand that the more you get into it the more the ending will feel like a nothingburger with a side of raw lettuce. Caveat emptor, I guess. Oddly enough, I played this because I was a big fan of the dev's last project, and one of the things that stood out was how well they managed to avoid this exact issue. I'll recommend it for the sake of the algorithm because, at the end of it all, I want the devs to keep making new things. If their next project has one fewer mistake than this one, it'll be flawless.

Recommended by a friend, turns out to be a charming story of friendship and self-reflection. makes you wonder, and makes you question the value of your current relationships through the lens of cool kid cody, which is rather CHILLECTRIFYING!!1!

It's a story about social inequalities brought on by a hierarchical society where the people at the top get to do whatever they want and the people at the bottom can suck it. Thus our team of teenagers work together to bring their hierarchy down and bring about equality between the Gods, Cool Kids and Losers. It's a good story with many charming characters, a vibrant world, and an underlying political message about society today.
One of the best times i've ever had playing through something and I only have gotten through Season 1 and the first four episodes of season two I would def at the very least try the first few chapters of season 1 there is no point in not trying it sooooo

Super fun gameplay, trippendicular art, amazing character writing, tons of cool references, good representation, and a buncha funny dialogue. I VERY MUCH RECCOMEND THIS GAME!!!!!! Also it may have made me cry on multiple occasions. PLAY IT YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!
This review is not complete. I'm slowly buying and playing every episode of Cool kid Cody. Check in every once and a while for my thoughts on my most recent episode! UP TO EPISODE 10, SEASON 1 SO FAR! YES, THIS WILL INCLUDE SPOILERS. For those who wish to head in spoiler free (which you should!) Just know the writing's great, world building is awesome, and the characters are fun and it's exciting to learn more about them and the world. SEASON 1
Episode 1. 10/10 Cool Kid Cody's Day On. Amazing Setup! I'm glad they made the first three episodes free even though all that was really needed for me was this one. Sets up Cody's Friendgroup, godhood and all the juicy hooks that a great episode 1 uses. Episode 2. 9/10 Nightmare on Loser Street. Hanging with horse girl, getting to know the loser side of the world. Only reason this is a 9/10 is because of the small amount of locations you visit. Yes, every location is jam packed with fun text but this episode is fairly short and little happens plot-wise. Episode 3. 9/10 P.B's all that! Hanging with P.B., entering a fashion contest and.. learning a bit about P.B.'s family. Same issue as episode 2 but otherwise just great! Episode 4. 10/10 The Wreckfast club. Hanging with the friendgroup, sorta, not Juvie, she's really not liking hanging with Pizza boy. The conflicts here are great, and you really get to see more about these characters.. I wonder who Mini is? Episode 5. 10/10 The Out-liars. Maybe I'm ranking these too kindly, let me know if you think that. More hanging out with PB, you learn a lot more about why Cody's so nice to losers and what PB goes through. Loved every set-piece here. From the basement to the kitchen to the skatepark, everything had a gameplay and storytelling purpose. Learning more about Mini.. Seems like G-ma made Cody ditch his own sister. Episode 6. 10/10 Mini's choice. It's time to find out about Cody, Juvie and Mini's relationship in the most heart-breaking way possible and one of this season's greatest usage of gameplay so far. Juvie feels, so much more real after this, and so does Cody.. as for Mini, A cool kid named Rhyme takes Mini away for their GRD and.. bam. End of the episode. Episode 7. 8/10 Pulp Friction. Starting off with a dream about Cody punching something. (I went for the Granboard.) The quick gameplay segment of trying to break out of being grounded is a fun set-piece. There's a great deal of emotions behind.. you know, having to boss aunt nat around and punch Pizza boy in the face. It's some amazing characterization work for Cody! Also, CODY'S A LOSER NOW AND PIZZA BOY'S A COOL KID!? Episode 8. Dead Poets Propriety. 10/10. Pizza boy is now PIZZA BOI! After some family talk and leaving his apartment, he gets to re-kindle his kinship with Steve. Awesome, oh and he hangs up on school kid cody who tells him they've gotta fight the gods. Episode 9. 10/10 Cody, deals with the fact that he's now a loser, and rather than seek whatever lesson there was in this thing. He wants to fight the gods, and recognizes the issues with the separation of cool kids and losers. Also he tells G-ma off. Episde 10. 11/10? Time to get hazed PB, and time to get trials SKC. I loved the nuclear bomb ontop of the locker joke, the teeny tiny lore-drops of pre nephelic society, lots of setup for season 2, awesome ending with a morally sound punch. Very exciting!
