About

A secret agency hired a penal military unit for cheap labor. You're one of the unlucky convicts chosen for their suicide missions. If you succeed, you'll be rewarded with cake and ice cream. If you mess up, the agency will deny its involvement in your mission.

In Campaign mode, you'll take a trip to Burkan Republic. A beautiful vacation spot for families, couples, tax evaders, and irrelevant old people who have nothing better to do with their retirement funds. A relaxing paradise, where beaches are crystal clear, tropical drinks are fresh, pirates are the official welcoming committee, rebel militias forgot what they were fighting for in the first place, and government officials waste half of the country's treasury on yacht parties and keeping the other half on offshore accounts for when the country inevitably collapses.
Julius Archer is on America's most wanted list for treason, and he's hiding in this dangerous war-torn country.

In Freelance mode, you can play 10 separate missions around the world. Kill enemies, earn cash, buy bigger guns and kill more enemies. Pure and simple.
No politicking, no navigating. Hire a team, gear up, and jump straight into battle.

In Guerrilla mode, you'll go on patrols in the South American jungle, take down drug cartels and extremist militias, and face many challenges along the way.
Your performance evaluation depends on your timing. The faster you finish the mission, the bigger your paycheck.

Assemble a team of throat cutters and trigger pullers.
Explore a fictional war-torn country in Campaign mode.
Collect shiny rocks.
Hunt nature's deadliest predators.
Use sophisticated tactics to defeat simple-minded enemies.
Non-linear gameplay frees you to complete the campaign however you want.
Play 10 separate missions in Freelance mode.
Go on unpredictable patrols in Guerrilla mode.

The game blends dark humor with strategic combat, offering a variety of game modes and challenging missions. Players can customize their team, manage resources, and engage in brutal, strategic battles as they navigate through various objectives and environments.

[th]🎮Gameplay:[/th]

Step into the shoes of a convict tasked with executing high-risk missions. The game is centered around turn-based tactical combat, where each move counts. 🌍 Exploration: Explore different environments and plan strategic moves in varied settings, from jungles to war zones. 🔧 Resource Management: Equip your team with a variety of weapons and gear, ensuring that you manage your limited resources efficiently. 🤝 Character Customization: Create and customize your convict team. Start by selecting their gender (male or female), which affects base stats: male convicts gain +5 strength and +10 health, while female convicts get +3 agility. Next, choose their criminal conviction, such as Assassin, Hitman, or Serial Killer, each offering unique base stats. For instance, the Assassin might have enhanced stealth, while the Serial Killer excels in health. Then, pick from additional traits like Marksman, Demolition, Reflexes, and more, which define their combat role. Marksman increases accuracy, Demolition boosts explosive capabilities, and Reflexes enhance evasion. Appearance customization is limited: female convicts share the same body skin with slight variations for males. However, you can customize hair color, eye color, skin tone, and scars to give each convict a distinctive look within the game’s design constraints. 💥 Combat System: Engage in strategic, turn-based combat, using positioning, skills, and weapons to defeat enemies while managing the health and morale of your team.

[th]📖Story and Depth:[/th]

Set in a world where convicts are hired by a shady agency for dangerous missions, the game’s narrative unfolds through a series of brutal and absurd encounters. Players take on the role of one of the convicts, navigating a story full of dark humor, treachery, and unexpected twists. The characters' backgrounds, skills, and interactions are crucial to mission success, adding depth to the storyline. The game is driven by humor, but also challenges players with the difficulty of the missions and the high stakes involved, forcing them to make tough strategic decisions that impact the outcome of the story.

[th]🏆Verdict:[/th]

"Convict Team Tactics" is a fun and challenging tactical SRPG that combines humor with strategic depth. The game’s dark tone, exaggerated combat, and rich variety of missions make it a standout for fans of turn-based tactics. The RPG Maker assets give the game a simple, basic art style, but the core gameplay shines, with deep tactical combat, a variety of weapons, and engaging missions at its heart. While the game offers a variety of modes and difficulty settings, its tactical complexity may overwhelm new players. However, veterans of SRPGs and tactical games will find the challenge rewarding. For those seeking a tactical game with a darkly comedic edge, "Convict Team Tactics" delivers a solid balance of strategy, humor, and challenge, making it an entertaining choice despite its basic visuals. Various game modes provide only a little variation to the core encounter gameplay. Inventory has a hefty choice of destructive firepower & consumables. Which bring an element of fun to combat, spoiled only by the quirks that cause imbalance & lead to a cascade of Rambo style one-shot kills for either set of combatants. Dated RPGmaker audiovisuals affect the experience. The UI is uniformly clunky. The campaign arc is too short & not enough unique missions for the other modes, one of which lacks dynamicity. There is only a smidgen of character building & party management doesn't have enough strategic elements. The lack of depth across the board, left me wanting more. It's neither criminally good, nor bad. MAYBE of interest to those with an inclination for what it offers.

STATUS: Looks pretty much complete. Hasn't received an update since last August (2025)

APPEAL: Fans of classic retro games such as the original Jagged Alliance

VALUE: Even for the concise amount content, the price is a steal providing 10+ hours of entertainment

Key provided by the developer through my curator THE IRREGULAR GAMER | Click to follow & get updates
More info below....
HIGHLIGHTS:
🟡 PREMISE captures that Jagged Alliance vibe, meets Dirty Dozen [movie] theme &, a story baked in dark humour & pop culture references such as: Apocalypse Now. Built on a core of turn-based tactics & inventory management, in an old school format. 🟡 Substantial INVENTORY allows for a large range of armament strategies. Multiple types of contemporary weapons, including some that can be dual-wielded & a few exotics. Several types of explosives provide alternate tactics. Armour & accessory slots provide limited defence & augments. Consumables to heal & buffs help counter lethal damage. Special OP variants can be unlocked in some modes.
OFF TARGET:
⚪ Each of the x3 GAMEMODES are a little different from each other. Though created around the same core mission format. The campaign has a Jagged Alliance feel, but needs a much longer chain of missions with some offshoots to vary the experience. Freelance mode strips away the story & focusing on missions only. Guerrilla mode has a little dynamicity, thematic events, a militaristic theme & format, equipment layouts & a small map to navigate to reach objectives. ⚪ GAMEWORLD is small with a dozen or so locations. Checkpoints & random encounters add dilemma when traversing the map. Locations contain a varying amount of points of interest from NPCs to talk or trade with. A few mini-games can be used to gamble for more cash. ⚪ COMBAT can be a lot of fun with an emphasis on careful planning & tactical execution. Built upon positioning, staying out of range, breaking LoS. Impacted by firepower & armour. Body parts can be targeted, multiple fire modes used depending on the weapon. Can't defer turns or unused AP, nor is there overwatch. Spoiled by a few quirks as some weapons, character traits, drugs & items combos are OP. Results in very short-lived or frustrating encounters. Damage is skewed depending on whether items & drugs are used. Impacting melee combat, to make it practically useless. ⚪ MISSIONS lack variety, occurring on only x2 distinct map types, though actual locations are varied. They are completely combat-oriented, a question of clearing the map of enemies, though a few have abductees to keep alive or an escape zone to get to. Only the fewest have extra waves to prolong battles. They tend to be over quickly. RANDOM ENCOUNTERS follow the same flow as regular missions, but with animals to hunt. ⚪ AUDIOVISUALS are WYSIWYG. RPGMaker ARTSTYLE would have been perfectly acceptable 30 years ago. Now only enjoyable for nostalgic gamers. SOUNDTRACK has enough semblance of a militaristic tone. AUDIOEFFECTS sound off the shelf. Everything else is basic. ⚪ ENEMIES aren't flushed out enough. Coming only in two guises. Humanoids are distinguishable in appearance by faction (mafiosi, robots, zombie merc) & capability by the class (recruits, vets, heavies, officers). The only important factor is if they can 1-shot kill with damage output. Those that possess armour still die too quickly when facing the a squad armed with the best weapons. ⚪ AI does a job, but is unsophisticated. It tends to saturate the nearest target in line-of-sight & will attack from as much max range as possible. It is either good enough to take out a small team or inadequately equipped mercs quickly or against a well-kitted out team posse little significant threat. ⚪ PRODUCTION QUALITY is adequate. Apart from x1 bug, no others spoiled the experience. Though some QoL is needed especially in terms of balancing combat overall. STABILITY had no issues, as did OPTIMISATION which ran at 60fps.
SHORTCOMINGS:
🟤 The STORY is remindful of Jagged Alliance in places. With snippets of humour, parody & satire, but it never really takes off. Its missing an emotional hook & a true depth of purpose for the game. Executed as a scattering of breadcrumbs even in campaign mode. WRITING is of a decent standard. 🟤 PARTY MANAGEMENT is reduced to hiring x convicts & which x4 to field in any given mission. Prior to missions by moving them into the top roster slots. Reinforcements can't be called in once a squad member dies. Recruits can't be dismissed. Mostly just equipment selection & healing between encounters. CHARACTER BUILDING is fixed to the stats given by perp types (hitman, terrorist etc) & any of x8 traits. Every other level the aim stat rises by a tiny fraction. 🟤 The UI could do with some QoL. It uses a clunky menu-driven system for everything from dialogue to actions. Objectives aren't obviously labelled. Combatant portraits used in sequence list are ambiguous & don't clearly identify which actual enemy will pose a threat before others. 🟤 DIFFICULTY can be a walkover or crippling, caused by an IMBLANCE in combat. Players must learn how to survive quickly, initially by trial & error. Much depends on the squad, equipment & drugs taken. Special inventory makes things easier with progression. 🟤 STAYING POWER is nominal despite x3 modes & several difficulties. REPLAY VALUE in the campaign is limited to choice of squad make-up & inventory selections. Since there are no dynamic factors, nor mission branches. Guerrilla mode offers the better set of replayable missions. LONGEVITY is limited by a lack of dynamicity, limited content & no achievements. 🟤 COVER in combat may suffer from a serious bug that affects its effectiveness. IMMERSION breaks when ordering inventory through the catalogue, as items are instantaneously available. 🟤 RESOLUTION is to small. The constant need to scroll around the map because it doesn't fit onto a single screen is annoying as hell. Especially when using wpns with a range beyond screen length. Can murder U.N. peace keepers indiscriminately
Although CTT looks slightly mediocre at first glance, it is amazing in almost every aspect when it comes to playing yourself. Spent 10 whole hours in here and loved every second of it, except for the part in the beginning where I got assrаped by Cape Buffalos. I also enjoyed how certain convicts react to the environment with their own dialogue, though that happens pretty rarely
one of my favorite interactions was when I accidentally hired a misogynist and talked to a prostitute, resulting in the guy attacking her and making every other convict in the squad fight literally everyone else on the location
It's sad that this game is significantly overshadowed
at least on the scale of this author's community
by GUTTER and its DLCs though. No CTT guides, no discussions, no videos, not even a slight resemblance of a fandom, nothing. need DLCs
bought this within 2 minutes of getting the "now available" email
Finally, a game where I can utilize terrorism as a strategy and make my own cartel execution videos. Would recommend for children of all ages.
I purchased this for the astounding price of 90 American cents. Even at 3 dollars I'd pay for this. Even for 6 dollars I'd pay for this, it's no GUTTER: The Reject or scarfolk_town, those are complete kino. Even then this, as you may have seen, is well worth the price, good replayability, can be pretty balls-kicking with the difficulty, a colorful cast of crooks, a good story, just... I'm not a particularly big fan of turn based strategy games like this, I do wish this were another GUTTER DLC, but you gotta change the formula up eventually, huh? I think I'll check the other modes out now.
This game is a steal at $2.99. The tactics are on point. You learn real quick how to survive or you die lol. The game is brutal in the fact if you are unprepared for a fight it lets you know. Weapons and gear do help a lot with progress so gear up quick. The campaign is cool because it is open ended, so you really choose what and how things progress. The random events in the game are cool and intriguing because you wont see some things coming (wont say so no spoilers). The writing is charming like the devs other game so just have fun with it. I have to try the other modes but from what I played so far worth playing 100%.
Not terrible but feels very mediocre when compared to other games in the genre
I was offered a free copy of this to try, and while not a fundamentally poor game, the writing leaves you feeling like it could have been better, the jokes fall flat, and the gritty 'attitude' the game tries to have just feels like a 7th grader trying to sound cool in front of their friends. And yes, the gameplay itself is solid, the game does little to tell you HOW to play the game aside from a barebones tutorial which doesn't even explain the ammo mechanic (yes, guns need ammo, sure, but it never said anything about that, and your MC has ammo right out the gate). Plus, it doesn't really bring anything new to the tactics genre at all. What I played seemed OK, but lacked any real depth. I will say it was just the first few missions, so obviously they're going to be easier. But still. Just a very meh kind of game. So why do I recommend it? Because there's no neutral rating (how I really feel about it) and it's cheap. Worth the price to see if it lands better for you than it did for me, for sure. If it was more than $5 CAD than I would say hard pass. But as it is, it's a solid maybe, and even a 'why the heck not' for a good sale price.
Convict Team Tactics is a simple, turn-based gamemaker RPG but with a focus of mercenarism through the usage of convicted criminals. Become the United States rendition of Executive Outcomes as you assemble a company of convicts. Pick one of three modes, hire soon-to-be war criminals into your team, gear up, and jump straight into the action when ready. With CTT's simplicity, it was easy for me to get used to within the first 30 minutes. Depending on how you play, most fights are going to play out based on trial and error. In Campaign mode there's multiple different endings and you're free to approach most situations in Africa with select responses. Certain convicts and characters might have choice words for specific events. One might express satisfaction at the outcome of a battle, another might get you into some trouble, or a war criminal might offer some lore. The tone of the game can shift from unserious to serious in an instant
(specifically nearing the end)
, but the game will still manage to keep its dark humor. Freelancer has a focus on individual missions throughout the world, some missions are more challenging than others. Guerilla is if you combined the Campaign and Freelancer modes into one, with a focus on random events from the start of a raid to the end. By the fifth hour of playing CTT, I was commanding doped up convicts high on drugs on a hard mode Campaign. Nothing could stop my squad from
destabilizing the Burkan Republic
to accomplishing the mission. If you're expecting sophisticated AI, remember the simplicity of the game as enemies will only move to attack the player. For what the game is worth, I'd say it's worth it if you're familiar with the creator's previous works on the source engine or if you have time to waste.
