3/10 A turn-based combat game with indirect/predictive control. Pros: - the core idea is actually interesting. Reminds Frozen Synapse (and before that Laser Squad Nemesis) though without the spatial component. It's just attacks. You queue them for 3 turns ahead, and also there are secret "if then" orders. If implemented properly, I guess such game could be a hit even - you can play vs the AI. Obviously there is no one in multiplayer, but at least you can do something offline! So-so: - the 8 bit music reminds old NES games from the late 80s. I understand the dev's intent to have it match the pixelated 52-color gfx but these tracks just don't sound nice Cons: - gfx are terrible. Pixel art can be done well, but this is clearly not the case here. The character sprites are slightly better than the rest but overall it's terrible. - there are explanations in the "how to play" section but they don't clarify much. When you face the actual game, it's unclear what the abilities do, where to drag what, where to click and what each element means. Onboarding would require an interactive tutorial which would tell exactly where to click or what to do. Since the combat system is so unique As it is, it's a prototype, not an open beta. Not even alpha or pre-alpha because in pre-alpha you'd already need to have a tutorial. Otherwise how are people even supposed to test the game? Btw if the dev wonders why there are just 4 reviews since Oct 2022 (so, it's 4 reviews in 7 months) - that's because of the screenshots. They really are so ugly that most people just pass. I have a hobby of methodically looking thru each and every free game on Steam so I downloaded this game with dozens of others. But a normal person would not waste time, even if the game is free. My advice would be to find a proper artist, then implement a tutorial, and then playtest it with random players to make sure they actually understand the combat system. Multiplayer does not work yikes
Its fun when you get a general idea of how to play but is really confusing. Me and my friend didn't even understand why we couldn't attack 90% of the until half way through our second match, and sometimes still an attack that I think should go through just doesn't seem to. In general though, a fun game.
Before I played Contingency Creatures, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good

Azure Dreams
Hey hey its me, back at it again to draw terrible conclusions to odd games I find. Contingency creatures is all you might want from a unique pokemon-like that deals with equipment. But this type of game doesn't work. It works with pokemon showdown because there is enough choice to make brackets and leagues and meta and anti-meta and etc. This isn't that. There isn't enough game for this to be the unqiue eye grabber that you or I may want ever since you were a kid. A kid who wanted pokemon but your grandparents didn't know the difference in Pokemon, Digimon, and the countless wannabes; And on your birthday you are disappointed by the rip-off you get in a form of a box you know would be the same size as a pokemon game, but then are blown away by the gameplay so much so that you're disappointed when you do finally get a pokemon game, that you never actually beat it. That kid. But this game isn't anything but a pokemon showdown wannabe. And I ain't about all that.
