Fun game, worth the 9 or 10 dollars IMO. Simple in concept with classic side-scrolling run and gun action. Simple in concept, but not so simple to master. Combat is a test of recognizing enemies on the fly and quickly reacting to the way they attack (jump over X enemy to avoid their grab, run under Y enemy's jump attack, then avoid Z enemy's projectile, then sneak in some damage of your own). To that end, there is a good variety of enemies. As you go, you'll collect upgrades, of which you can have 3 activated at once. This allows for variety of builds and play styles between playthroughs. Once you've collected some good upgrades and good consumables, then you challenge the final boss (you can fight the final boss right at the start, but you'll get stomped).

Pros: +Rogue-like setting gives it different obstacles each time. +Combat is basically like Megaman, if you've played Megaman before. It's a run+shoot combat style, avoiding enemy hits while trying to shoot them yourself. +Suit upgrades give you a tangible sense of progression. +Final boss is available from the get-go, like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Likewise, the difficulty of the final boss depends on your progression. The more enemies you beat in the game, the easier the final boss becomes. +Puzzles in the temple are simple but interesting to figure out. At least, in my opinion. +Enemy names are funny, especially when you realize that they are named after the MC's various fears. +Speedrun friendly. All that matters is beating the final boss, so getting the right strat to find the right resources might be a good idea. + enemy designs are nice. Cons: -Wordsworth, your robot companion/tutorial agent, can speak over himself if you select different descriptions of an item at the same time. This makes the audio design feel clunky. -In my opinion, the lightsaber character is the easiest because you don't have to worry about spacing as much as the other characters. With lightsaber dude, it's pretty much about hitting them and phasing through them each time. Not to mention airborne enemies are much easier to hit with the lightsaber timing. -The suit upgrade system only allows you to use 3 upgrades at a time, but all upgrades are accessible to switch to by pausing the game, deselecting a currently used upgrade, and selecting an unused upgrade. Tedious switching of upgrades and kind of makes you OP in many circumstances. This could be fixed if switching upgrades puts your switch time on a cooldown, so you have to wait a while to switch again. -Some suit upgrades are CLEARLY better than others. And some even negate the need for certain actions in the game. For example, once you get the self-heal upgrade, eating food becomes obsolete for the most part because health is counted the same as hunger. Another upgrade, metal head, causes damage to enemies if you purposefully hurt yourself on them. This goes against the core mechanic of staying alive in the game. -Very short game. There is a time limit in the game after all. If you don't beat it within that time limit, you die and have to start over again. -The pause menu during the character select screen is practically invisible because there is no contrast between the text and the background. -Some suit upgrades/food/juice/items have text descriptions yet others have voice descriptions by Wordsworth. There is no consistency in the item descriptions. -There is no option to exit the game from the pause menu. You have to exit out of the window to exit out of the game. SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER: =This game has no music besides the ones that you can play in the tablet in-game. When you exit the tablet, the music automatically stops. The main music is ambient sounds in the game. =The story is eh. You are stranded on a planet to face your fears. Somehow it manifested itself, Celeste style, and you have to fight it. You win if you beat it. But there is no incentive to care about your character besides the fact that some of his fears (as named by the enemies) are relatable.
*Disclaimer* I received this game for free but all comments are my own and were not under review nor looked at by any party before uploaded. I'll be honest, if I didn't receive this game for free, I probably would not have played it but that is only because I choose not to buy any games or many games (especially indie's since there are so many good ones from what I have heard) as a way to keep me from getting addicted (and boy is this game addicting). Although if you are the type to play a lot of games and you are a fan of MegaMan style games then this should appeal to you and definitely worth the 10$ (original price). Everything was perfect from the solid gameplay to awesome spritework and animation create a really nice atmosphere. Wordswurth is hilarious and I love the quips here and there throughout the game, keeps things fresh. I don't like music on all the time when I play games unless maybe if its a story game like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild where it's integral to the atmosphere, not that the music (Wordswurth's Radio) was bad or anything, I thought it was cool how each song and song name is generated, but that said, if you like music filling the ambiance in a game, this game's music should not disappoint. There seems to be many types of enemies and they are not forgiving so buckle up for a good time if you're into that, some of the bosses can 2-shot you even with suit upgrades. Speaking of suit upgrades, I think it was wise to limit the active suit upgrades to 3 at a time in order to not become too OP. Overall a really solid game despite some bugs (Wordswurth's voice overlapping himself when doing upgrades during his dialogue, stuck in battle zone after all enemies are dead). Love the graphics and the replayability the generated world approach brings. Really love the puzzles in the dungeons/temples and the bosses are super challenging. Saber class is OP but it gives a good easy way out for first timers and the Phaser classes add a realy good amount of difficulty. thought the stats were pretty balanced for each class so no complaints there. Suggestions: -Add hints to appropriate screens/menus for different actions like to use the attack button to switch juices in the mixing screen -Have the beginning cutscene replayable, I skipped it trying to configure my controller so I wasn't able to understand to do at first -Goals section in menu -Add subtitles for Wordswurth -Add button prompts for cutscenes -Make obvious you can only have 3 suit upgrades at a time -Maybe multiplayer in the future (Co-Op, battle royale, pvp optional, Time Trials (racing to the end while competing for resources (pvp optional)) -Maybe be able to accelerate graphics with gpu? Dunno if its possible and it's honestly not needed but would be a nice thing to have, might fix frame drops and such. "Shill" I have runs uploaded to my channel if anyone wants to check them out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Successful Runs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGd9HCzAqok3DD4ZMxy8_LC5LiTNZrrGm Failed Runs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGd9HCzAqok2O3eqlhMZp0n_3xMMqjW89

Contingency is a great game! It offers a wide variety of challenges in terms of enemy types and puzzles. While at the start you may feel as if the game is very difficult to conquer, the more and more you play you learn what strategies to focus on and how enemies tend to attack, and you will probably feel a sense of satisfaction in overcoming the challenges and obstacles in the game. The powerups go from being too many to keep track of at times, to understanding which ones to use when and which ones to save. My main issues with the game is that the framerate wasn't super consistent, but it's entirely possible that that's an issue with my PC not being the best for gaming. The world itself feels a little small, almost as if this is supposed to be part of a bigger game, but this may not be as bothersome as the game has a lot of replayability in that you can customize your character in so many different ways, from your starting layout to the items you use to the powerups you choose to equip. Overall, I would highly recommend this game, as it is a very fun game and it's well worth your time!
Super fun indie game. The controls are great and it’s very challenging. Check it out!
Alright, listen up peasants. You ever wanted to feel like a badass with a laser sword and swipe at hallucinations, while being trapped ALONE on a desolate planet with your only chance at getting back home is a dinky little ship, guarded by a massive molten rock amalgamation? Yeah, this game AIN'T IT, or is it? FIND OUT NOW AND PURCHASE [<---[i]italics, valve pls[/i]] instead of throwing your twitch prime sub away to Ninja's deceased and overpopulated channel. Look, I'm going to feed you some truths, so hang tight, alright? PROS: 1. Soundtrack is [strike]stupidly[/strike] awesome, randomly generated content with a record label being pumped out every few minutes Next. Quips from the robot fella are hilarious. Just plain golden what this creator has come up with. Has helped me through a deteriorating relationship with my left hand Third: Graphics are nostalgic, with gnarly spritework. Sound design is effective, but there are some st-st-stuttering issues if there's too much going on. ;3 4th. So this one guy developed a bar-tending app and he doesn't even know it. You pick up these fruits and mix them into drinks to consume during an all-day happy hour. Frickin' love the visuals and sounds when you're pouring. Also, what are you doing still reading this? GO AND BUY IT, WILL YA. Oh, and the menu screen when you press C is super dope. Five. You roam around killing fiends and what do you get? Cy-borg inducing addons to attach to your kit and play with. "But [insert name here], can you light yourself on fire?" Yes, yes you can pado-wan. Last thing. I swear its got heart. Like most developers out there, it all starts with an idea, and they nurture it with their own struggles and philosophies, so that's cool. Support dudes and dudettes like these. We need more of 'em. CONs: 1. [bold]That its not already in your library.[/bold] 2. its a sidescroller, so its got that metroid feel, but could use some nitrous oxide and a little more verticality. (PAID TO SAY THAT AGAINST MY WILL, I actually enjoy it because I'ma simpleton. btw, here's a cheat code for age of empires: howdoyouturnthison Read below for actual review. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I enjoyed this game's arcade-style focus. While there is not a lot of variety, there is a lot of beauty in the art and design. Gameplay is easy to get used to - yet I encountered some framerate issues in fullscreen - and I had a great time! I tried the game with all three suits and found each one unique and fun, though I believe the saber is most powerful. The "juice crafting" mechanic is a fantastic new dish to bring to the table! I loved trying to mix the right amount of juice for the best-crafted smoothies in the galaxy. For its price tag, this game is an good and honest effort. Some bugs need to be cleaned up (nothing game-breaking), but I generally enjoyed the experience, and there's nothing like the feeling of getting your money's worth in the arcade machine after you put in the winning quarter. That's how I felt. This is a good game.
