Warning: Asset Flip! Colorize Inspect is an asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated someone else's example/template/tutorial game, changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and submitted it to Valve as if it was their own game.
Colorize Inspect is an asset flip. The "developer" took a bunch of someone else's game assets, rearranged them badly, and is trying to get YOUR money for someone else's work. In this case, DIG Games/QuickBobber ripped off a very basic Unity coding tutorial for a colour match game, and decided they could get paid money for stealing someone else's tutorial and posting the code as a complete game up on Steam. All you do in this code sample (published as if it was a real game) is observe a coloured bar, then click on the one of the four colour samples underneath that matches it. Seriously. Someone else's code tutorial, but with a price tag on it... that's a scam. DIG Games have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. We can tell this is a lazy, poorly assembled game, not intended to be a serious proposition for us PC gamers. The developer didn't include any settings menu at all. If that doesn't make it clear what kind of lazy junk this is, I'm not sure what will. Because of this, the controls can't be customised at all, which will frustrate many players, but more seriously it can render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers, or anyone on an AZERTY or other international keyboard layout. There's no resolution options and no graphics settings of any kind. No way to set a native resolution, no way to tweak the visuals to improve performance or quality so it's tailored to your hardware. Unacceptable on any PC game. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. This kind of asset flipping isn't harmless. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made games from ethical developers. It makes it harder for genuine indie developers, who put hard work into trying to make real games, to find an audience for their products. It gives indie developers a bad name. On to pricing and the question of value. Should you buy this asset flip? Is this one of the best of the 140,000+ products on Steam? Absolutely not. Colorize Inspect is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk. Ethics aside, there's enough defects and quality problems with this game that it's not worth recommending to gamers, but the unethical nature of the developer/their associates makes it completely impossible. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from DIG Games.
