I am sorry to say that this game feels like something rushed during a lunchbreak. I love the idea of a RISK based game in various time ages. But you dont get your moneys worth with this game: (1). There is only one map (2). There isnt much graphics in the game, just a map that should not need more than 3-5 MB. (3). There are just some recorded crash-boom-bang sounds (shouldnt need many MB). (4). The mechanics of the game (battles etc) is extremely simple (shouldnt require more than 3-5 MB really) (5). The game require 550 MB of harddrive for no reason (it should be no more than 20 MB for what you get). (5). Instead of wasting 530 MB on God knows what, there should have been more maps and fractions available for different kinds of Wars during history (f.e. Napoleon, American Civil War, The Swedish Great Power Era, World War 2, Battles of Middleeast etc). To offer just One map was offensive, and using the same map for three different eras is just lazy. How can this game, that just feels like a simple boardgame with very limited (if any) finesse, require 550 MB on your harddrive????? This should be nothing more than a 20 MB game at top. The programming must be extremely lazy. Even though I love the idea of the game, the execution of it fails completely in my opinion. I have given it a fair 6 hour try, and even though I feel it should have potential (cause the idea is really good) it feels like a very early access version of a game. There are to much missing to get a thumbs up on the game at present state.

Yes, jolly good.
The game has extremely little challenge with a very basic gameplay loop where you rapidly start to steamroll everyone else. If you're looking for a strategic game about the time period around Scramble for Africa and such the game series Victoria by Paradox is a better one, even with 3 being controversial.
Colonial Conquest, developed by Argonauts Interactive and Collectif Nemoïd and published by Plug In Digital, is a turn-based strategy game that revisits the classic 1985 title with modern touches. Set during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the game immerses players in the age of imperialism, challenging them to expand their nation’s influence across the globe. Players can choose from six major powers—Great Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Japan, or Russia—each with unique strengths and starting positions, tasking them with managing diplomacy, military operations, and strategic planning to achieve global dominance. The historical setting adds a layer of context, making strategic decisions feel grounded in the era of colonial expansion. Gameplay in Colonial Conquest centers around controlling territories, managing resources, and deploying military units to expand influence and defend holdings. The world map is divided into regions and sea zones, each with strategic value, and players must weigh the cost of expansion against potential risks. Beyond straightforward military action, the game introduces mechanics like espionage, sabotage, and bribery, allowing players to weaken rivals without direct conflict. This combination of overt and covert strategies provides depth, encouraging players to consider multiple avenues for achieving their objectives. The game also features scenarios such as the 1880 “Race for the Colonies” and the 1914 “Brink of War,” offering different challenges and conditions that affect strategy and replayability. Visually, the game takes a minimalist approach, prioritizing clarity and functionality over ornate graphics. The map is clean and easy to read, and the user interface is straightforward, which helps players focus on strategy rather than visual flourishes. While this simplicity ensures that actions and territory control are always clear, it may feel dated or underwhelming for players accustomed to more polished modern strategy titles. Sound design follows a similar philosophy, providing subtle music and effects that reinforce the setting without distracting from gameplay. This design choice aligns with the game’s emphasis on strategy and planning rather than cinematic presentation. The pacing and structure of Colonial Conquest make it approachable for both newcomers and seasoned strategy players. Turns are relatively short, allowing for engaging sessions without overwhelming commitment, and the balance between diplomacy, military action, and covert operations keeps gameplay varied. The inclusion of multiple scenarios adds replay value, giving players opportunities to experiment with different strategies and adapt to changing historical circumstances. For those who enjoy methodical planning and tactical problem-solving, these features create a satisfying and rewarding experience. However, the game has some limitations. Its simplicity, while a strength for accessibility, also limits the depth and complexity that some players expect from modern strategy games. The AI can be predictable, and without an online multiplayer mode, the game lacks the dynamic interactions and challenges that human opponents can provide. Additionally, the minimalist presentation, though functional, may not appeal to those seeking visually immersive or highly detailed historical simulations. These factors can make the game feel shallow over extended play sessions, particularly for strategy veterans. In conclusion, Colonial Conquest delivers a solid and accessible strategy experience that successfully modernizes a classic game while maintaining its core appeal. It offers a thoughtful mix of military, diplomatic, and covert gameplay set in a historically grounded era of imperialism. While it may not match the complexity or visual polish of larger-scale strategy titles, it provides a concise and engaging experience for players looking for a turn-based challenge that can be enjoyed in short sessions. Its combination of historical context, strategic depth, and approachable mechanics makes it an enjoyable option for casual and moderately experienced strategy gamers alike. Rating: 6/10
