About
Welcome, college baseball fans and text-based management fans. Like you, I've always wanted a college baseball game to play. However, that was not possible until now.
College Baseball: Dynasty Builder lets you take over a college program, recruit top talent from across the United States, and win a championship.
A very competitive recruiting model that the AI follows the same rules as the player. You have to spend your resources wisely to build your team.
A fun and interactive postseason system that has conference tournaments, regionals, super regionals, and culminating with a college world series.
Very customizable allowing users to use their own logos and conference setups. The Discord will have logos and universes for players to download and use. You can get to the Discord from the main menu screen.
I try to respect the player's time and the simulation time is extremely fast. To simulate an entire 56 game regular season schedule for 300 teams takes under 1 minute on most PC builds.
Stat tracking for season and career stats. Do you want to see which player born in Georgia has the most career home runs? No problem.
Transfer Portal is in the game to frustrate you like real life coaches! In all seriousness though, I've found that you can get multiple starters from the transfer portal if you target correctly.
A dynamic prestige system that works with your school attribute ratings to help grow your school into a place that recruits want to play for.
Also, High School Mode has been introduced. A tryout system is used instead of recruiting, and there is a unique playoff system that has champions for each classification. The mode is still a work in progress, but I believe it is one of the first games that try to mirror high school baseball. However, the simulation engine does not have substitutions or two way players, so it doesn't completely mirror how high school baseball is actually played, but it can still be fun and a different type of game than the college mode.
There are no 3D graphics or play by play engine. So you will not have the opportunity to call the hit and run on a 2-1 count in the 6th inning. I want to make that clear, so I don't have anyone upset at me. I would love to have a system in place, but as the only person working on the game, I had to make decisions on what could be done.
There is a box score for every game, so you can see the breakdown on how the game went. However, you will not be able to watch the game "live". For post-season games, there is a slow sim style of showing you the score after each half inning, to give you a little bit of a live feeing.

I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game so far. If you're a college baseball fan who likes management sims, this is absolutely going to scratch that itch for the lack of a college baseball game all these years. Recruiting is straightforward and easy to pick up, yet challenging to master to build up your program. The stat-tracking far exceeded my expectations, both within a season and over a career. The simulation engine moves very quickly, and it's easy to find yourself clicking off two or three seasons in one sitting even if you don't have a ton of free time. While, as the product description states, there isnt't a "play-by-play" engine a la OOTP, I still feel the results from the sim engine captures the spirit of college baseball, which is easier said than done. Is it possible to pull of that big upset of a national powerhouse with an underdog team? Absolutely, it's baseball, on any given day it can be your day. You will see Cinderella runs in the conference tournaments, and maybe even the occasional surprise in the big dance, but it doesn't happen so frequently that it feels unfair to the powerhouse programs. The familiar names will advance through Super Regionals more often than not. At the very minimum, it's a great foundation for a game with a ton of promise to grow, especially with a developer who is easy to reach and responds quickly to feedback.
This game might not look like anything special from the outside looking in, but it's got everything I need in a sports sim. It has an enjoyable, not overly complicated recruiting system, dynamic prestige, easy team management and an incredibly fast and well-made sim engine. It has deep statistics, including career stat tracking and history. Most importantly, this game has that "one more click" feel that keeps you hooked. While I'm not really a college baseball fan myself, this game fills a niche that doesn't really have anything like this at all and I still find it quite fun. If you're looking for a game with a ton of bells and whistles, this probably isn't for you. But if you're looking for a straightforward sports sim that still scratches that itch of turning a team of rag tag lads into a dynasty for the ages? I think this game's a winner!
Essentially an Random Number generator in college baseball tournament format. There is no in-game management, there is no handedness attribute, there is no team tactical control, there is no way to see who is pitching in any specific game before it's simulated, there is no player energy/fatigue system, there is no staff system, there is nothing for you to do in this game except recruit your team and simulate the entire season. Not nearly feature-complete enough to suggest it's worth anywhere near the price tag.
If you're a spreadsheet sim enjoyer, and like college baseball then you'll definitely like this game. There's lots of stats to check out, and its in a very early stage so I'm sure there's more to come as well. It's a little rough around the edges, but the bones are more than good and I think you should give it a chance if you're looking into this game.
I am a HUGE fan of simulations, and especially sports sims. I have pretty much all of those that are available on the steam platform. Bear with me...I am a scientist by training, and pretty thorough in my analysis and thought process. I will also attempt to make this entertaining, being the goofball that I am! Please note that I have 15 full hours of this game, at the time of this review. Watch the hours climb over time. I am hesitant to trust reviews with limited time...as the subtleties and nuances of any simulation are not readily apparent, initially, and DO take time to suss out. I purchased this game, and immediately went on the dev's discord, and found the link to the JSON files to make an accurate starting universe. 308 teams, ranging from prestige 1 to prestige 9. I chose to start with my local D1 university, Lindenwood, here in the western suburbs of St. Louis. I wanted to build up a team from the lowest point. As a Coach/Manager/GM/AD, I also started at the lowest experience level. As the seasons have progressed, and based on the cumulative results, both the universities prestige, and my personal experience level have continued to improve. It is completely possible to have a terrible season, and regress, and get fired. I know..it happened to me! Good news is that I was given a choice if equally crappy teams, and I chose an Ivy League team, Harvard. I mean...we ALL want to go to Harvard, amiright??? I stayed at Harvard for ten seasons. Did pretty well, and took them to prestige level 3. At that point, my personal experience was enough to jump to the US Air Force Academy. I served on active duty in the Air Force for decades, so this worked just fine. I am one season away from personal experience level 15, and school prestige level 5. The sense of progression is perfect, and just like the porridge for Goldilocks, isn't too slow, or fast, and seems JUUUUST right. The gameplay mechanics are excellent, and I will go over them in detail. The season ends, you have either won the College World Series, or the Super Sectional, or your Conference Championship. Each level gives you more prestige points, and experience. As your prestige grows, you are tasked with better and better results. I've only been fired once in about ... 18 seasons, but it certainly could happen, even this next year. Season ends, and you either keep your job, or offered a new one. Fine. Next comes the Transfer Portal. You have the opportunity to review your roster, and to make critical decisions on critical needs, prior to the official start of the next season's recruiting. I spend a LOT of time analyzing my roster, and my needs. Do I have a Sophomore 2B, that isn't quite ready? Then get a Senior transfer, to plug in for a year. I evaluate every position, and every player, in a series of spreadsheet-style dropdowns, with a large list of individual ratings. Contact, power, discipline (walks), speed, defense, etc., coupled with an overall ranking. You can also pull up a map, and select specific states you wish to concentrate on. My current team is in Colorado, and you get a bonus to potential transfer students from your state. For this transfer portal, you get six weeks to spend a finite number of recruiting points on players you wish to sign. You can also allow the 'puter to do this...but I find that MY decisions are better. Of course ... I mean, recruiting is a huge part of what this game is. OK. Transfers are done, and you advance to the next year. First step is to see how your team, and you, have progressed in prestige and experience. You have the ability to improve your school's facilities, marketing, fan base, etc. I THINK this helps in recruiting. Next is a ten week full on recruiting phase. You target your recruiting, and spend recruiting points. The higher your experience level, the more recruiting points you get. Initially, your recruits will not be highly rated, unless the stars align, and the 85 rated pitcher from Colorado Springs wants to stay at your university, coincidentally located in Colorado Springs. You get the idea. Once your roster is set, you get to set your lineups and pitching rotation. I spend a LOT of time min-maxing how I want my team to look. I remember my Little League coach telling my dad that he liked how I hustled, like the Cincinnatti Reds rookie, Pete Rose. Yes. I am old...but I have embraced modern statistical analysis and roster building. Some would call it Moneyball, other's go OLD SCHOOL, and talk Bill James, and Peter Thorn, and Sabremetrics. In my world, I am all about OPS, and getting on base, and getting the best run differential that I can. I am quite pleased when my teams lead the conference in OBP and OPS. If you like stats, there are stats EVERYWHERE. Player stats, coaching stats, all time stats, conference stats, team hall of fame, and much more. Takes a little getting used to, when a dude leads your conference with 65 RBI for the year, or your ace pitcher has 10 wins. If you have made it this far, thanks for letting me ramble. If you have made it this far, just buy the game. You know you want to. It is a polished, solid, stats-based management sim. If you like Out of the Park, this is better. I am a charter member of OOTP, and am an active member of their forums since 2002. Way back. This game is better.
Really enjoyable game that is easy to learn but hard to master. It is a text only game where the focus is on recruiting and the transfer portal, where you essentially attempt to recruit a team that is good enough to win the College World Series. I liken it to playing NCAA football in Dynasty Mode and just simming the games, which i do a lot of. I did a review on YouTube of the first season if you want o check it out at Old Man Sim Reviews https://youtu.be/dnMPjj_QBCw?si=5SGyQ1CYFZJXHOhc
College Baseball: Dynasty Builder is a highly enjoyable sports simulation, especially for fans of the college game. I’d recommend any baseball fan give it a try. It’s easy to pick up, yet still offers plenty of depth and challenge for more experienced players. From recruiting all the way through the postseason, the game delivers an authentic and immersive baseball sim experience. The ability to download or create custom teams and leagues through the Discord community is a major bonus, giving players the freedom to build their own unique universe. If you love college baseball, this game will definitely scratch that college-baseball-game itch you’ve been looking for. I’ve had a great time with this game and would strongly recommend checking it out.
Honestly. I am not sure what i expected. Maybe at the very least Football Coach College Dynasty which is a solid game. This one seems more like a very interesting 5 dollar mobile game at the moment. All that being said. This is 1 person making the game, I believe he cares and wants to make the best game possible so i am not here to discredit any of that. I would still get the game just to support the creator so that he feels like its a product worth investing in. The concept is amazing, I love OOTP and I love college football sims, This seems like it would be perfect for me, just not there yet for me personally aside from if i had it on my phone for 5 dollars. but yes would recommend still because i can appreciate someone taking the time to make this by themselves. I have played a couple seasons since. I am trying my best to change my mind but its missing a lot. BUT i got hope. Still looks like the updates are meaningful and the guy cares a lot
Great game, especially if you like College baseball. That and the College baseball video game market is extremely small so its nice to have a game I can use to sim College related. Also I love to play sports sims that are simple & laid back but also make time fly due to having fun.
College Baseball: Dynasty Builder is an enjoyable game that does a good job of simulating recruiting for a college baseball team. There is a good foundation for adding further aspects to the game, which I hope that the developer considers. All in all, this is an easy game to learn and if the subject matter appeals to you, it will provide you with solid return on your investment.
