Cleaning Up The Puzzle Gallery

Clean up the Puzzle Gallery is a really nice cosy game. It’s a nice game you can switch your brain off for, and either listen to something like an audio book, or watch something on your second monitor. I loved seeing all these cool classic paintings in the game, and I think the different powers were really well designed. I originally heard about the game through a friend. We were in call one night and they were streaming themselves playing this puzzle game, it looked cool, so I brought it. First 2 hours, didn’t even know the Powers existed, I thought you had to beat the game first for them, and you unlock them later. Safe to say my progression sped up once I unlocked them. I have also 100%-ed the game, that’s how much I enjoyed it. My first playthrough took 7 hours, so I got the “play the game for 5 hours” achievement. Beat the game for the first time, I then dove into the challenge modes. I started with colour blind mode, and omg I loved it. I panicked at first, but as time went on, I adjusted, and I finished it in just under 3 hours (faster than my first playthrough WITH colour). That colour blind playthrough got my 3 more achievements. Played the Puzzle mode, did the Steam Store Page achievement, then went back and played the normal game again, and got the sub 3 hour achievement. And I finished it off with the huge pile of puzzle pieces achievement. I hadn’t brought the game intending to 100% it, but once I saw how simple the achievements were to unlock, and how few, I thought I’d pour some more time into the game, after all, I was having such a good time. Overall, fantastic game, highly recommend it.

Brilliant, absolutely great! This sorting/puzzle game is beautifully designed, implemented & supported (judging by the developers' response to reported errors and suggested improvements), and fantastic value for money. But I'll be honest - I so nearly didn't buy it... I was wary of playing this game for two reasons: firstly, I've loved jigsaws for 60+ years (both physical and, latterly, computerised ones) and I didn't want a poor experience to dent my appreciation of the latter; and secondly, I wondered if Cleaning Up The Puzzle Gallery was just another of the many unimaginative copy-cat games appearing after the success of Librarian: Tidy Up The Arcane Library. But I was wrong to be hesitant; this game turned out to be intriguing, enjoyable, clever (the skill trees provide a variety of tools which appreciably speed up the latter stages of the game), cosy (the classical music is just right for me), and - yes - at times frustrating (mainly because there are more keys needed to manipulate rotated and/or face-down jigsaw pieces than there are to grab and shelf whole books). I shudder to think of the number of times I pressed R instead of E and vice versa. I've managed to get all of the achievements except completing the game within 3 hours, but I'm stopping now as my best time for the whole gallery is nearly two hours longer than that, and my aging reflexes & dexterity will not allow me to make such an improvement. Never mind, I've still had a great time overall!
