Claws of the Forest

A very short, by-the-numbers horror visual novel, that doesn't feel like a lot of effort was put into it. The story is trite and underwhelming, the endless text mostly feels like it was written by AI instead of a person, the audio effects are almost nonexistent (I couldn't believe that the devs didn't even bother to add the simple sounds of rain and thunder) and you can go through the few in-game choices like a breeze just to get all the endings. Suffice to say, if I wasn't hunting for the achievements, I wouldn't have bothered to do even that. [spoiler] Also, the main character is frustratingly weak and pathetic, as all he ever does throughout the story is being panicked, frozen and paralyzed.[/spoiler] This is not a con per se, it just annoyed me to no end. There are a few positives, like the description of the violence and gore which was satisfying, or the fact that you can save at any time (saving you the trouble of skipping endless text to get to the part where you make the choices), but that is not enough to save this game. I am gutted to bash this game, as it obviously comes from a small team and I won't refund it, but even the asking price of $3 feels utterly ridiculous, when there are excellent VNs out there like Banebush that are infinitely superior in content and quality and yet cost exactly the same.
