A super slick movement shooter that has some neat subversions from what I expect from indie FPSs today. Has a deceptively simple kit (triple jump, stomp, dash, sniper, shotgun), so complexity truly shines when attempting DMND ranks for each levels, where smart routing and efficiency matter more than raw style and speed. A quite intriguing narrative contains one of the coolest Handheld Assistants in gaming, IYKYK. But the story stumbles right before the finish line with the late game reveal where the once dreadfully awesome dialogue and worldbuilding falls into quite heavy YA hurt/comfort tropes. Especially with how ???'s design looks (hot damn...), for me it leaned too heavily into wish fulfilment fantasy. It is as if the writing lost some of its uncompromised confidence right at the moment where it could've mattered most. Which in my opinion is a bit of a shame, but not a dealbreaker. Yet with all that said, I really felt the love here. And it's cheap so why not try it out.

Short but sweet, and smooth as hell. CICADAMATA" is a slick speedrunning platformer FPS that oozes style with its crunchy low poly aesthetic. Movement and shooting is as crisp as you'd want it in this kind of game, where precision matters, and it makes going for high scores as joyful as other games in a similar vein, like Neon White. Plus the soundtrack is rad.
For those who say its too hard on the eyes - in the settings turn off the CRT filter or whatever its called. overstylized, insane crunchy techy sound design and intense gameplay. There was story to this whole thing as well but honestly my brain didn't catch it. I hope this game keeps getting updates, maybe a dlc, hope you use the rainy + night time map design for a future sphere levels.
Scratches the same kind of itch that Neon White did, but with a little less emphasis on speed. Speed still plays a part, but the way you kill all the enemies and your route plays more of a part to your final score than just going purely for finishing as fast as possible. It's a short game with only 18 campaign levels, however it has a strong replayability on the back of always trying to squeeze more points out of each level. For the price, too, it's not like you're lacking bang for your buck here. It's not even £10. Very fun, addictive gameplay loop and a very cool artstyle. Certainly worth a try, especially for people who enjoy leaderboard climbing and optimising strategies in levels.
peak shooty shoot and speedy speed
I was looking for a game with a Marathon-style aesthetic, and this one turned out to be a great find. I recommend it to anyone who wants a new take on Ultrakill. Whether you play for a short while or just for an evening, this game will give you a positive experience. P.S. Be prepared—it might be a bit hard on the eyes.
less is more. feels and sounds incredible. simple mechanics but takes a bit to get high scores. addictive. despite 'derivative' elements and upbeat surffafce, there's some very real and haunting emotions in here.
This game is perfect for me, the sounds, music, environments, and general gameplay are fantastic. The most major issue here is the amount of content... The game's main campaign is only about 2 hours long. The also offers very little after game content. The actual story of the campaign also just feel pretty unfinished. Not giving us much to work with, and when some more major story elements are given at the end, the game just ends. Maybe I'm just missing something, but the story just seemed non-existent. The game is extremely fun, but with how little it offers, I'm willing to say that this game is not really worth the money, taking the refund right now is very tempting. If the devs continue to add onto the game's campaign and story, I'd absolutely reconsider, but the game just leaves so much to be desired. Side note that also isn't quite as important, the character designs felt overly sexualized in a way that just completely ruins what the characters had going for them. The main character has a very low-poly aesthetic, until, after EVERY level, you see her turned around, where her ass is completely round. Straight perfect circles. In the attempt of sexualization, the devs ended up ruining her character design for me, and just made me feel very off. And *minor* spoiler warning, and character at the end of the game has breasts that extended at least a foot away from her actual body. Nothing wrong with a character who has a larger chest, but when it's done so unrealistically, it ruins the impact of the character for me, and I began to stop taking my time reading the dialogue and just started skimming it, because I just didn't want to see that. Maybe I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥, or just weird for this take, but it just felt super unnecessary and took me out of the immersion I had been sucked into, especially in the major story section at the end. No normal people look like that...
very fun. awesome style, smooth gameplay, challenging to master. might a bit short if you just want to compete all the story levels and be done with it, but for the price it is worth it even for that. not to mention tons of room for optimizing each level and some challenging extra modes. tear flesh from bone~
