The story was really good and Orcsoft art is always top tier, so good game overall. Would recommend.
Its fine Visual Novel! Make sure You install "restoration" patch before You play! Enjoy!
didn't realize there was a h-scene addon. the cute story of 2 nerds pretending they aren't having sex. honestly better without the patch.
Without question, one of the best VNs in this genre. There is one drawback, though. Once you play this, much of your collection may become ignored. This is definitely worth replaying (which I am doing). Childhood Friends is a very well written slice of life story about two “average” people with no dating experience who agree to practice having a relationship to improve their romantic chances. The girl has an average face but a highly voluptuous body. She looks her age, which adds a degree of realism to this story. The most beautiful young girl in the school is not falling for you in this game. (Maybe the sexiest, though.) The protagonist is outwardly rough and crude, but vulnerable and lacking in courage on the inside. It doesn’t help that he’s his own worst enemy at least half the time. The soundtrack, a combination of soft jazz, pop, electronic, and movie soundtrack styles is very appropriate to the conversations and scenes that take place. It is also very nice to listen to. I wish they had an OST available. There is also a patch available through the publisher that adds substantially to the story. If you want the full story, you should consider getting it. Warning: it also contains a great deal of explicit material. The sprites are quite good, as are the backgrounds, and the CG drawings are superb. The images have a 4:3 aspect ratio with a maximum resolution of 1280×960. You can choose to view the game in this window or full screen using pillarboxing (mattes on the sides). There are two comprehensive gallery sections: Album (still images) and Memory (scene replays). Note: if you are into kissing, those images are included in the Album, but the kissing scenes, which are pretty hot, are not in the Memory. There are quite a few player choices in this long game. Each typically alters images and/or dialogue and/or outcome. Most are minor, but during the VN at least two choices you are given (one in the middle and one toward the end of the game) make substantial differences with the paths and endings. Fortunately, the choices in this game are somewhat reminiscent of real life choices: realistic choices about which you have some information to make the decisions, and which also have somewhat predictable outcomes. I found this refreshing. One of the minor player choices included what was to me the temporary emergence of surprisingly tender and romantic feelings between the characters. I am glad the developers took the time to include small things like that, which increases the realism. My recommendation to all players would be to make the choices you truly want during the first playthrough and then try others on a second playthrough. Childhood friends is based on a convenient relationship, not an outwardly romantic one, and characters remain somewhat detached. Their dialogue is pretty frank, as you would expect. Over time, the relationship shows signs of impending problems, making the story less predictable and the anxiety levels increase. If you get involved with the story, there may be a scene or two that will stun you. I suspect most players who read the VN as a literal novel—with the bonus of pictures—will become invested into the characters and drawn into actively wondering what will ultimately happen. You really don’t want to miss out on this one. Recommended.
