Games servers are dead and dev has no intention of fixing it + there's no local option so the game is effectively completely dead... which sucks because the new armies were super fun.

I really like the idea of alternative chess armies, but this game falls flat in an unplayable sort of way, It's next to impossible to find a real opponent, the AI is an unchangeable joke, and I can't find a way to appreciate the new rule about wagering tokens everytime there's a capture. That said, it's a pretty good game for playing in a drunken stupor. The AI never poses a real challenge, allowing you to basically mess around all over the board in different ways depending on the chosen army.

[h1]Magnificent[/h1] I'm so glad I bought this! My brother and I are crazy for stuff like this; we often thought you can't improve the best game in the world, but Sirlin/Ludeme pulled it off. [list] [*]The optional winning condition adds an additional layer of strategy that feels like several layers. [*]The different armies and their special properties feel unique, are interesting to play and to experiment with, and are actually not just for show: You have to adapt and change your playstyle completely depending on which army you chose. [*]The graphics are quite charming (albeit not customizable in terms of piece color, piece material, or board appearance; but who knows? Maybe there'll be cosmetic DLC some day)... [*]The awesome piano classical music is not just some stockmusic file loop whatever - that's one of the developers playing! And really well to boot. I wish I had that expertise. [/list] Unfortunately, there's also stuff that I have to criticize, but they're only minor gripes: [list] [*]You can't access the manual during a match. Most of the time there's no need for it anyway, but it would be a nice and potentially important option, especially for people new at Chess2. [*]The resign button immediately ends a match with asking for confirmation. I misclicked on it looking for a pause menu and involuntary forfeitted the match. This is everything but chess. I bought this game thinking it would at least have an option for a normal chess mode. But was I wrong.

The online server shut down :(
