Chesnakisnak is not, despite looking like it is, a first person adventure game. It's a collection of retro minigames assembled as a story driven kind of puzzle, with a first person adventure game being used as the "menu" for the game. The screenshots are quite misleading. It's not to say that the concept behind Chesnakisnak is not viable, but the implementation is lacklustre. The main menu (the first person "adventure" that you see in the screenshots) seems to have been slapped together with a godawfully bad first person adventure game construction kit, as I've seen numerous Russian template flips using the same engine and it's frankly painfully bad. As a result of this poor choice of game engine, resolution is locked and can't be changed, everything looks blurry as a result. It's below the minimum standard any PC enthusiast gamer would accept. The minigames are fine, but of course way below the quality the screenshots suggest the game has. The game design itself is deliberately obtuse, and while I understand that's a decision made in the name of "art", it's not great when developers go out of their way to alienate gamers. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises like using bad quality game construction kits.

This game is beyond my mortal comprehension. I am not afraid to admit my human flaws and embrace the fact that I am not worthy enough to merit the favor bestowed upon those who understand the true intent of this game. The Good: 1. The loading screens froze constantly and left me wondering if I had downloaded a bit coin miner. The mystery of why this happened on literally every single action screen eludes me to this day. This sense of feeling haunted was quite effective. 2. I savored all of the mini-games. They deserve their own rankings here but for the sake of time I'll simply provide a small assessment of each one: A. Porto thinks in languages that confound me- much like the alien world of New Estuary. B. The driving game is a metaphor for how we are all quickly going into our good night and this game provides the constant feedback of how fast we are truly driving towards our own demise regardless of our speed. C. There is a horror game- the unease of floating blue skeletal boxes gives way to the most frightening creature I have ever seen. Be prepared to scream! D. Then there's the boat simulation. It is philosophically profound- we are literally stuck in place contemplating our mortality as we are lost at sea yet floating in a straight line to nowhere. 3. The graphics are a true masterpiece- on Ultra settings they are a sight to behold. The hodgepodge of graffiti and very shiny textures is, indeed, quite alien to me. 4. The background music is truly something- I have never heard the likes of a rapping Estonian Pitbull before. I fear I will never hear them again and more's the pity. 5. The story! I received emails the first day. I paid my rent. I wrote my friend back. I told someone to forget my address. And then I received no more letters- no one wanted to be a part of my life and this was indicative of the deep sense of alienation and loneliness that the modern world has inflicted upon all of us. The Bad: This is a trick section- there is no bad here. Only Chesnakisnak. Conclusions: Play this right now lest you live your entire life without knowing true art.
Brilliant simulation of COVID. But in all honesty, just make the entire game in the computer. The going to sleep and walking back into the room got really tedious after a while. I am on Day 26 and I am getting no emails anymore. I think I got a bad ending. The game is not very clear. I might try a second play-through.

Best game on Steam for if you want to, for example: Be Ben. I have played this game thoroughly and I have come to the conclusion that this game is indeed the best game on steam if
Chesnakisnak is a game that does not really know how it wants to deliver its gameplay and narrative. It is clear to me that the developer has good ideas and intentions with the core design, but ultimately fails to deliver the concept in an accessible, optimized manner. The UI is clunky at all levels, even the computer interface (which is primarily where the game wants you to focus) is just horrendous. Text is proportioned weird, and response/loading times for the game are all over the place. I encountered a game-breaking bug the first time I used the Calculator just by trying to exit out of it! Only redeeming quality of the game is the music selection. Everything else is clunky, slow, or overall incoherent. This game feels more like a developer's first time dealing with Unreal Engine, and plays like a proof of concept rather than a final product. To the dev: I like your ideas and concepts, but way more work needs to be put in for those to be successful. Presentation matters, including optimizing frame rates and bug fixes!
