I had played the demo and it seemed okay. Since some reviews say, you get to see cool locations I wanted to give it a try. Now 2 minutes into the full game I could for the life of me not open the control room door with the crowbar which is the first thing you have to do if you have completed the demo. Eventually, the crowbar just disappeared through the floor or wall. Just so annoying after all this time for patches. So I started a new game but graphics and poor performance (40 fps on 'epic' with 3080 ti, i7 11700k, 32 GB Ram, Pico 4) just made me quit before getting back to the buggy control room door. Btw I also tried WMR but it does not even seem to be supported as the menu does not react to any button presses,
It's my first VR game and Im glad it was the one, It was fun experience to see inside control rooms and such. Didn't finish the game yet but I thought it's worth putting the review now while Im amazed. Go watch HBO's chernobyl and then comeback to this game and imagine that you walk in there where it all happened. Repectable.
6/10 - rough, but playable. Total, about four hours playtime. wonky VR mechanics, but playable. the good, bit too bright and happy all the time. but nice voice over. not bad puzzles to solve. the bad, Rough vr mechanics, unscrewing the bolts, opening door, elevator adjusting mirror.. the watch.. interface not bad, but frustrating one. the ugly, plastered looking graphics, upping to epic setting don't mean much. and the sudden ending... meh. Steam achievement won't work. but played fine in VD streamer, with Quest 3. Only get it at sale.
After playing through the demo I was very excited to get my hands on the full game. It did not disappoint, so much has gone into making this a very immersive game. You really feel like you are there, the fun fair area particularly gave me chills. The story line is gripping, and well voice acted. Got stuck a few times with the puzzles but managed to figure them out. My video is a full play through so only watch if your stuck as it will contain spoilers https://youtu.be/CYRs3B4kXqw?si=MXowAJmponRe3lGi
Works on Reverb G2. Chernobyl Again is a clunky VR adventure with bland puzzles and boring story telling, but at least some good looking scenery. The only good thing about CA is 3D scanned environments. It uses high quality photogrammetry from iconic locations like Duga Radar or Pripyat's ferris wheel, and they do look amazing from certain angles. Also there are some very detailed book covers and household items to find around, even though some of them are not appropriate for the depicted time period. But good looking 3D scans do not mean good visuals: the lighting is terrible in most interior levels, and objects, that were not 3D scanned have awfully low-res textures. The performance is also shoddy: RTX 5080 struggles to keep smooth 90 fps in several scenes on max settings. But as a game CA is just terrible: clunky item handling and inventory system make interacting with anything an unbearable chore. Puzzles consist of simple repetitive environmental interactions, that are ruined by aforementioned jank, and generic minigame puzzles that make zero sense in the context of the level, like playing Simon Says to disarm the bomb or solving marble ball maze to open a safe in reactor director's office. The cog "puzzle" to start a ferris wheel really takes the cake as the dumbest example of this design. The story is told entirely by phone calls, and it is incoherent even by the very low time travel story standards. The whole plot feels like a poorly made excuse to switch between 3D scanned locations.
Интересно, красиво, играбельно, достойно! Немного странное взаимодействие с некоторыми предметами, а в остальном нареканий нет.
Literally cant get the dial to produce any power whatsoever.
Played with Index controllers. Found the knobs and dial interactions a little difficult and you use dials frequently. Also was a bit too much lag between releasing my grip and my hands releasing the object, especially noticeable on ladders. But the puzzles themselves were good. The story was just meh. Enjoyed walking around in the power plant though and some of the historic photos in the game and the few historic areas you get to walk around in. I'd give the game a solid 6.5/10. Took me about 5 hours to complete.
Chernobyl Again is a puzzle adventure game about time travel and the Chernobyl disaster, it's quite fun, though a little rough around the edges at times. Without spoiling the game's story it's a linear adventure game where you take the role of a time cop essentially tasked with stopping the sabotage of the Chernobyl reactor, The who and why unknown but to be discovered. Partly due to the time travel and doubling back on the story, it reminded me a lot of the VR game Wanderer. The length of the game will vary based on the speed of your puzzle solving, it took me about 3 hours. Visually the game look quite nice it uses a lot of Photogrammetry environments which while all pre-baked and can lack some interactivity look nice, though performance did leave a little something to be desired given the relatively small environments. During my play through I did encounter some small bugs, most not major but even when game breaking restarting the level does not take long to catch up once you know what you are doing. Voice acting and language quirks: I believe there was use of AI for characters beyond the main character. I could be wrong about this, but the inflections and grammar throughout the game seemed a little off, though this could be because the developers are polish (if the Sp. z o.o. in the devs name is correct). There were also some small language quirks, at one point the main character was reiterating to go to the autodrome which I didn't realize is apparently a word for bumper cars or dodgems overall the game is a little rough, Some small bugs and lack of polish at times, but also a pretty looking and general fun puzzles to solve, I liked the game but at full price it's probably a little overpriced.
