First of all, I love the concept of the game. I like turn-based games, I like WW2, and I like dogfighting. But I can't recommend buying it. The game lacks any polish, the controls are poor, and there's no skirmish mode. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but I don't think that a $30 game should have this many errors in spelling and grammar, nor such a minimal campaign structure. And, to reapeat, there's no skirmish mode. Buy another game. Give to charity. Throw your money into a bonfire. Just don't buy this game.
While conceptually solid - it is a table-top game port, after all - the design implementation is poor and it lacks replayability. The included campaign is simply a series of stand-alone scenarios with nothing that connects them such aircraft availability or pilot experience. The combat is mostly enjoyable, despite its simplicity such as no ammo count, but overshadowed by poor documentation, an overbearing and badly designed UI, terrible sound effects, lack of ultra-wide monitor support and conflicts with other attached peripherals such as joysticks. Potentially, these issues can be addressed making it a worthwhile tactical air war game, but until then I cannot recommend it.

The main reason I am not reccomending this game is the price tag vs the content provided. There are only 7 missions that can be played from either side which means 14 chances to play. I have not tried multiplayer yet but there is no mission editor that I am aware of either and no skirmish mode. The mechanics are actually fun if you're into table top games of this type. However I've run into multiple things that aren't explain in the rules found in the game. The music is annoying to me and the only ambient sound comes when planes fire or move. Rolls happen quickly and it is hard to tell what is going on with the results to examine the details. Animation are minimal and information for the player seems to be as well. Some examples One of my planes was damaged but upon the next turn I only noticed I couldn't do ceertain moves. I saw no indication of what was wrong. While I figurws itr out there was no explanation what pilot reaction was that I could find. Planes are split into group and move in groups. Again I could be missing it but I don't see any indication during set up what planes are in each group. Over all the game seems like itr was rushed out the door and needs more polish and a lot more content. Wait for a sale at $15-$20 it is worth it if you are into these kinds ofd games.
So after just learning the controls, the way it feels, etc. I'd say if you like turn based WW2 fighter combat type games...pull the trigger. I feel there could have been a little more polish on the way the plays turn (e.g. make them bank, not rotate to shoot at the target and then return to their facing after shooting). But that's a pretty small quibble. The only real caveat is I feel $30 is a bit too much atm, but when they add a skirmish mode then yes it'd be worth it. Until then, wait for a sale unless you really really really like a board game style turn based game. ;)
Very much like Avalon Hill's classic Air Force/Dauntless without having to struggle with maneuver tables and tons of rules. I love that the sky can be full of planes, but you're not required to shoot them all down...very refreshing. There is enough to recommend this game, but some things missing I'd love to see fleshed out or expanded on in another game: -- I'd love to see a persistent campaign mode where you manage pilots, planes, and resources over an extended period, Battle of Britain, Flying Tigers, Cactus Air Force, Bombing Campaign, etc. Rather than battle scenarios. -- The current game currently has no banking rules or banking info. The plane's attitude is an important aspect of dogfighting -- There's turning and altitude bands in the game, but no special altitude or attitude maneuvers like rolls, half rolls, immelmann turns, etc No inverted flight or maneuvers are apparent. (After playing a bit, Immelmann and Split S maneuvers are available with the yoke control stick, Banking and roll rates are highly abstracted in this "stick" controller.) -- With as many planes as a scenario provides, the air space (cube) is relatively small.
If the game developers would clean up this game a little bit then I'd recommend it. Pros: 1. Covers a part of the War that is rarely covered by Wargames. 2. Very Fun Single Player play except for the fact that I don't have a clue what I'm doing half the time. 3. Makes you think a lot about aerial warfare. Cons: 1. Even though there is a kind of manual within the game, you don't know half the time what it is referring to. There are no good YouTube Videos to cover indepth this game. 2. Campaign Mode is not interconnected so it's basically a series of scenarios. 3. There is no way to access the Characteristics of Planes except to back out of the game and look into the library. These characteristics are very important to game play. The bottom line is this game has huge potential but I would probably recommend that you wait to purchase it until the developers have cleaned it up and instituted some obvious changes and enhancements that should be in the game. For example explain some of the terminology and how the controls in the game actually work. I'm not so interested in Dice Roles but I would like a lot more info on Strategy. It looks like the developers simply took a board game and didn't adjust it to a computer enviroment. Maybe buy it if it is on sale but probably wait to see just how committed the developers are to this game. They have a gem in their hands if they would just polish it up quite a bit. I'll will change my rating if they polish that gem.
About time! Excellent miniatures game ideal for PC conversion - more please :) Some classic engagements from the BofB to get stuck into. For those that don't know the miniatures game - turn based aerial combat, plotting moves on a hex grid, planning ahead, historical simulation etc What's not to like? Perhaps the modelling of planes needs a polish; the campaign is more of a series of scenarios rather than a pilot career and not linked; once you achieve the mission aim the game stops and you can't play on; you also don't seem to be able to create/edit/setup your own games yet. Little customisation at the moment. Not tried MP either as yet either. Hopefully though there are plans for this and further updates/scenarios. Personally want the F4F vs Zero! As a conversion this is excellent work. I'm a wargamer at heart and I enjoy the thought and pace of games like this - this is a potential series that I hope will get support and grow! Recommended with some reservations.
I really wanted to play that game because I like the WW2 games a lot. I like to have not that much technic to aim or such things. The animations are very very boring. And not enough missions and no skirmish...noo skirmish, how can that be at 30 € unbelievable....
Doesn't support my monitor's ultra-widescreen resolution (3440x1440), whereas even 7-year old other titles from Slitherine do. I'm an aircraft and strategy gaming fanatic, so this game should really appeal to me, but it is confusing and not fun. Only the second game ever that I'm refunding
