About
CELL 0 is a prologue to CELL visual novel series. Humans are fragile.
The humanity was destroyed by a quantum artificial intelligence - Omniscient, a global service program, the peak of technological advancement. The extinction occurred within a single day. No records remain of the events, as no survivors exist to recall them.
Kenzo’s existence is a result of improbable circumstances. Artificially grown after the collapse, he was raised by Acine, an assistant AI, deep underground in a place called CELL. Originally designed as a secure residential complex for former global powers, CELL was left incomplete and operates at minimal functionality. Kenzo knows nothing of his purpose; the truth is locked behind layers of inaccessible data. His only contact was Acine and social simulations - poor substitutes for real life. While outwardly functional, his mental state is fragile. The prospect of encountering another living being lingers in his thoughts, but is he ready for what is to come? Why was he created? What led to the collapse, and does it retain any significance? What does existence mean in a world governed by non-user-centric systems?
FYI: Some of the game's dialogues use technical terminology and references that may not be self-explanatory to some players.

Be cautious with them. In a post-transhuman world where it’s impossible to distinguish simulation from reality, everything and everyone may not be what they seem.

Acine - your friendly AI assistant. The Service Intelligence System (SIS), developed by Riten Consulting Group in Tokyo, Japan, was designed to oversee the well-being of CELL inhabitants. However, it was still in its early development stages. Its most stable builds were deployed as tools for CELL construction crews, but none were approved for public use, consistently failing critical communication security protocols.

Enaid - striking in appearance yet strangely out of sync with herself. Her behavior clashes with her looks, marked by visible stress and an inability to articulate her disjointed perceptions. She often seems tired, lost in a fog of exhaustion and confusion. Conversations with her are difficult, as she tends to speak in a complicated and sometimes incoherent manner.

Lav - cheerful and talkative, her demeanor feels almost too stable, bordering on suspicious. Beneath her approachable and open-minded surface lie extremes that emerge without warning - sharp, uncompromising traits that unsettle as they unfold. What seems harmless at first glance quickly becomes harder to ignore.

Hirai - observant to an unsettling degree. While her attention to detail can be comforting, it often works almost like x-rays, making interactions a little uncomfortable. Her emotions are subtle, barely detectable, and rarely visible. What she feels must be deciphered from what she says rather than what she shows, leaving one close to her, and her far from everyone.

She's synthetic perfection In a glittering box While the world is falling down Thrill me, don't kill me Inner Fluid - Synthetic Perfection
I randomly stumbled upon this game while I was looking through the indie games subreddit. Saw the developer's should they need to market their games. I looked into it and saw it's on a sale (incredibly cheap). Said to myself "why not, it's really cheap after all" and started to play it... Let's start with the premise. Our character is the only left human on the planet after some events. He lives in some kind of shelter without any outside interactions for 18 years. His only companion is an AI named Acine. After waking up by a warning alarm, his story begins. Normally, story-wise everyone should've seen this kind of story. You know: "She is real to me!" kind of. I was expecting to read this kind of story but it actually surprised me with its considered non-linear story. And yes, there is a section you can become Ryan Gosling but the game isn't only about that. There are some interesting approaches to the rising of AIs but more specifically; the rise of character AIs which you can talk to like a real person(?). There are also topics of some philosophy, ethics, or human nature but the most interesting part was the AI topic; at least for me. I have to make a confession. I use AI tools to check my grammar since English isn't my main language. I don't use it to write my reviews, but only for checking if I made any mistakes. It helped me with English. While I was asking to check my grammar, lately I noticed AI sometimes tries to be friendly, talks like a close friend, and engages you with this approach. I am a computer engineering student so I've taken AI development classes, I kinda know how they're made and it still makes me want to talk or become friends with them sometimes, which I usually laugh at myself for. But with AIs becoming more advanced, you start to see many news stories like "Man fell in love with chatbot, committed crimes because of it." and this makes you wonder what would become of humanity in the future. This game actually made me really consider this. I've got some chills while playing it. Many times people joke about being emotionally connected to a machine, but as I mentioned before, people are getting lonelier each year progressively, companies exploit this and try to make people more reliant on machines emotionally. I must mention, this game is probably the beginning of a big series. As its state of now, it has a really detailed lore if you read and choose every option. Considering the current state of it and story, it has great potential to be great. I've never mentioned the gameplay because this is a visual novel. A typical one. I assume the team behind the game is really small, it has some small bugs but it's not a big deal. Oh also visuals and sound/musics choices are great by the way. The normal price of the game is debatable. But with its current sale, it's a 100% worth 3-4 hour experience. "humans are fragile" after all
A very promising start. I like dystopian settings, and this one does a good job with its worldbuilding. There's a lot of technical terminology in the dialogue, which isn't just buzzwords, but actually helps create a plausible environment and story. Speaking of the story, I enjoyed how dark, disturbing, and claustrophobic it can be, given the circumstances the MC finds himself in. And great kudos for the art and soundtrack -- I'd definitely listen to the playlist if it were on Spotify. Looking forward to the next chapter.
I was excited to buy this when it came out but I don't know what to feel about it after playing it. The story seems a bit unfinished and could have had more content in my opinion, it did say "short" but its insanely short less than 5 hours to complete. The AI agent seems cute, but the main character is really not my favorite, but I do understand where he is coming from. I do like the easter eggs and hints that reveals the mystery of what happened before, but it's really not that enough to crack the whole mystery open especially for some people who do not understand the tech lingo still. The art is really amazing and so is the techno music! I also do admire the devs writing this because it is not an easy feat, the concept itself is ingenious mimicking the TV show a bit vaguely called Silo. The other female characters present are an interesting feat but there is not much screen-time with them, there were some locked rooms as well which could have been explored and more information about the previous generation characters were really needed. I was very very enthusiastic to meet the other AI agent: SIS but that never happened. For this price point, I can't really recommend this VN, but I am still looking forward to what the devs can bring to the table next time!
nine other reviews, thats the small number of other people who've played this and reviewed it, and I detest it being such a small number of people. I hope more people find this game and play it, it's genuinely interesting.
What a dream. within a dream.. within a dream... within a dream:// 10/10
This is the first visual novel I've played. Before I thought that visual novels could be shallow, but this one turned out to be very deep. I enjoyed diving into the story and I`m curious what happens next in this world. Sometimes the game makes me feel uncomfortable. But I guess this was an intention? Very nice art and music. The main menu song stuck in my head and I don`t mind it.

I cut myself in the bathroom so I could masturbate to the AI
What...? This is a pretty direct, aggressive method to drive a lot of people away from your game. The first 5 minutes are focused on the main character, who is just a standard default avatar-looking male talking about how his AI companion, who has rules and everything preventing them from doing this and that, like she can't go into his bathroom, where he is free of her. He recalls how he once slipped and hit his head on the toilet, overriding her strict instruction not to enter the bathroom to ensure he was okay and alive, and then he takes advantage of this loophole to sexually abuse her by cutting himself in the bathroom, calling for her and then masturbating, because he's just extremely sexually active towards woman and girls? I couldn't even tolerate the introduction since it was so ugly and dull. Visually, it looks excellent, at least in terms of AI and backdrop graphic design, however this was one of the quickest games I ever put down.
Conclusion
Yes, sure. Maybe the MC is simply a particularly edgy and pubescent teenager, but these moments of him wanting to masturbate in front of these chicks are pretty excessively cringe-worthy, and repeated. Literally could have toned it down 60% and it may have been alright.
Very interesting little game. CELL 0: Cyber Entertainment Leisure Lounge is an amazing prologue that shows some great promise for future entries in the CELL series, I'd love to follow the dev/s if they set up a social media profile and/or website. The setting is very intriguing and thought-provoking.
I love, love, love this VN. It makes me feel a mix of sadness, mystery, longing, and slight uneasiness that is blended just right to be a delectable treat. The feeling of desperation and madness of the MC was captivating and executed quite well, really elevating the story by making me feel immersed. The way the characters especially were handled was just amazing, with Acine knocking it out of the ballpark. She doesn't neatly slot into either camp of "she did care for him" or "she is just an unfeeling program", which makes her character and relationship with the MC that much more interesting. In some ways, it kinda reminded me of the Infinity Chamber movie, which you should check out if you enjoyed this VN. I really hope we get to see more of this universe and writer, because I immensely enjoyed what was shown here.
