I was not entirely certain what I was going to be getting into when I purchased Cave of Illusions; only via recommendation by my brother did I have a sense as to what to entail. The game was very well presented, with bizarre layouts and an extremely sinister tone punctuated by the ambient thrums. This all paired together to create a sense of dread and anxiety that fit the overall theme increasingly as I reached the final stages of the story. As much a game as it was watching a movie, I found myself very much intrigued by the story-line as well as the sense of unknowing horror that plagued the protagonist. Her mounting dread at what was to come grew with my own; more than once causing me to panic. I highly recommend this game to anyone who appreciates the confusing and dream-like qualities that echoes with the voice of 70's horror as well as modern fears such as Absentia.
I had a blast playing this game. The atmosphere is very unsettling, and the droning ambiance really sells the feeling of losing your grip on reality. The story is captivating, and quickly gets you asking questions and seeking answers. As you progress, the environment becomes more and more surreal, and you start to experience the illusions you've been expecting. At any point, your surroundings can betray you, and leave you looking around frantically, unsure of what may emerge from a dark corner. The music is spectacular, and very moody. Vidas' brilliant use of guitar creates a bold feeling of sadness, and a longing to find resolve amidst the chaos. Scruncho's flute work is hauntingly lovely, and does a great job setting a tone for the story. As a whole, the sound design is very well executed. There are times where all you want to do is find your way out, and the music really adds a strong sense of anxiety. The voice acting is also great, and at times, chilling. There was clearly a lot of deep thought put into the story, and after the first playthrough, you will be left with much to ponder. And once you beat it, there are things to unlock for replayability, which pushes the game beyond the hour or so it takes to complete. Overall, it was a very satisfying experience for me. If you play it for yourself, be sure to leave your own script at the door, and just allow yourself to get lost in it, and you will have the best possible experience. There are jumpscares, but they are used tastefully, and in a way that even scared me; someone who generally isn't phased by jumpscares. Ultimately, a great game with a lot to offer, and great potential for expansion, should the team decide to keep going with it. Certainly the best yet from Vidas Games, and I highly recommend it!
A very interesting game indeed, there is a lot going on in the background of this and while yes there are one or two wee jumps the game itself doesn't rely on them, rather giving you an insight into dare I say insanity. there is a lot to see and do in this and I highly recommend checking it out. Well done devs keep those games coming and I'll keep on playing them

This is possibly one of the best indie horror game's I personally enjoyed, Played it on stream and the whole stream tuned in and stayed clued to the story just like myself, The story make's you think and the voice acting and music in the game is very well done. Would recommend 100%!
Vidas is probably best-known as the creator of the Timore games, but this is by no means a new Timore game. That series has definitely been getting better and better as this dev has honed (and continues to hone) their craft, but this was a genuinely unexpected experience. There ARE jump scares like the ones in those games, but they take a back seat to the trippy environments, creepy atmosphere, and dark story. This time, the focus is on the story, the visuals, and the atmosphere. I was surprised by just how creative some of the areas were, with mind-bending rooms and striking use of colour being consistently effective. The mind-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at some points really did remind me of Layers of Fear, only a more vivid, carnival-esque, and of course indie version of it. Is it perfect? No. I found one particular puzzle area became a bit repetitive and went on too long, while others were quite simplistic. Some players may also find one or two of the puzzles a a bit more "trial and error", but I found the clues provided by the in-game journal and occasional dialogue sufficient to get through without much trouble. It's worth noting that puzzle gameplay is a fairly new undertaking for this dev, and seeing the progress they've made in recent games alone makes me confident the next foray into that area will be even better. Overall, I definitely recommend this game. It was interesting enough to keep me happily playing for the ~45-minute duration, with striking visuals and atmospheric sound design. Above all, it's a different kind of horror experience. It's far from perfect, but it's a HUGE step in the right direction for a dev that has been going from strength to strength with their more recent projects. Cave of Illusions is easily their best game so far, and in my opinion, it's worth a look for its relatively low asking price.
Really enjoyed this one! It's short (I finished in an hour, but with only 1 ending) but the story takes on some cool narrative shifts. By the end I was left with a bit of a slackjaw (still processing). I thought the tense atmosphere and the feeling of constantly wanting to look over my shoulder as something might be chasing was handled well. Think it earns the psychological horror tagline it is marked as.
8/10 Much love, weiter so!
Not a terrible game, but also a terrible game.
