Absolutely having an amazing time with this game. I believe the developer has hit a sweet spot with the balance of all the elements in this game. Just the right amount of story, puzzles, exploration and stealth gameplay combined. Besides that, the game is played at a really good pace and allows for both slow &- or fast plays. Great job on the graphics and optimization of the game, played it in QHD with maxed out settings without any issues. There's really not much more to rant about here, the developer did a great job and I fully enjoyed the game from start to finish. The game kept me interested throughout the entirety of my play and I was intrigued by the plot of the story. I took note that while it is not a psychological horror, but rather a survival horror and based on that, it still keeps a pretty tense atmosphere. At times, I experienced quite ominous feelings when playing through it. That's outside of its "main job", yet it still did good at it. One of the brighter indie horror experiences without any doubt! After playing Part 1 of Caution Ahead, we are fully looking forward to the upcoming parts of the story. The first part offers a standard horror experience, but it is quite short and does not entice you to wait for the next part. You’re placed in the shoes of a man named John who finds himself locked inside a house. The story is revealed as you progress through the game. Every window and the majority of the doors are boarded up, with the remaining doors requiring either a specific item or a key to unlock. Naturally, none of the lights work, so you must rely on your flashlight. The controls are similar to any other first-person horror game. Aside from walking and sprinting, you have a dependable flashlight and a button for interacting with items in the world. The good news is that the flashlight works well and does not require batteries to operate. You hold it in your left hand and can keep it on at all times. It will flicker occasionally, but this is simply a visual feature to add to the eerie atmosphere. Interaction is performed using the left mouse button. When you approach close enough to an intriguing object, the cursor will change to an eye, triggering a comment from the protagonist, or a hand, indicating that it can be used or picked up. There’s no inventory, so you can only carry one item in your right hand. This means you have to bring and use it on the right spot before you can grab another item. Of course, you may always drop it, but you must remember where you put it. Fortunately, significant elements are highlighted to increase their visibility. However, you must have a clear view because there are no waypoints or visual cues. You will have to go through three short chapters. There are no logical problems because the game is more similar to adventure games. You make progress by using the tool in your hand on the appropriate object, such as a screwdriver on a panel or a crowbar on a loose board. The locations in each chapter are not big, so you should have no trouble finding the solution. The villain, or, more specifically, the lack of checkpoints, is the most aggravating element. If you are caught, you will have to restart the chapter. While the first chapter is completely safe, and the second only contains one area where you must slip past the killer, the third chapter features the killer patrolling the house. Although you can hide, it will not help if the killer notices you jumping under a bed or hiding in a chest. Getting caught also erases all of your progress in that chapter, so you will have to look for items and use them in the correct locations again. All of this turns the third chapter into a trial-and-error scenario. There are no achievements. Beating the game unlocks a speedrun and a bit harder third chapter that makes you look for a few more items.
Awesome game! I really enjoyed my experience!
I had the chance to play test this game and it was awesome. The general play through took me about 1.5 hours and kept me hooked the whole time. The game does a fantastic job of building tension with a dirty, dingy atmosphere. The sound effects and music perfectly fit each scene, adding to the suspense. The narrator's reactions and commentary made the environment feel even more real and terrifying. Overall, I say it's a must play for horror fans. It combines a captivating story and solid game play to deliver a terrifying and memorable experience. I'm excited to see part 2!
Overall a good game, a lot better than most indie horror games nowadays. The story was pretty interesting. My heart rate increased in some parts and I got jumpscared a couple of times. The extra modes like torture mode and speedrun mode, the former being the one i like most, are really cool additions to the game too! I recommend trying to speedrun the game after beating it normally. My best time is 9 minutes, try to beat it ;) I recommend buying this game! The dev was nice! (Playtester review)
The game is good I like it very much. If you want to see the whole game and how to pass all the hard things in the game this is it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp9AL90i4Cw
Found some parts frustrating, for example it wasn't clear stepping on puddle in the barn alarmed enemy. Overall good game. Great voice acting.
Everything about this game got me hooked from the get go. Me thinking this was gonna be another ordinary horror game goes beyond than what I expected. The atmosphere sets a really great tone of making me feel very uneasy about my environment which i loved every moment. What I loved even more was the lore that I found in the game which I found really captivating and super interesting that really fits great with the story. All in all 10/10 in my eyes and I can't wait to see more of it. https://youtu.be/tGUng5Nu-pg
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Caution Ahead. I can't wait to try out Pt 2. If you want a fun horror puzzle game this is the one for you. It's not too hard and just the right amount of scares. Everything about it from the graphics to the sound to the story all intrigue me. I would highly recommend you play this for yourself.
