This game commits the ultimate sin: its boring. Very very very very very boring. You played the first 15 minutes of it? Congratulations, you have seen EVERYTHING this game has to offer. I finished the first game, and although I found it lacking, I remember being ok with it. But this game adds nothing to it. In fact, it makes some stuff worse than the first. The gameplay is still the same button mashing garbage. Mash the attack button, dodge when you see red. You would think that eventually it gets a bit better, but no, it gets worse. Every spell is now an area attack, which makes these big flashy floor effects, blocking the view from the enemy attacks. Eventually you unlock a dodge attack move, and that almost ruined combat for me. Using it causes you to magnetically lunge towards an enemy, and the dodge roll doesn't gives you invulnerability frames, making you hurl yourself into an attack. Everything else this game offers is either time wasting or NOTHING. The map is huge, filled with NOTHING. You walk forever to reach somewhere. There are a lot dungeons with less variation than the ones in Oblivion and Skyrim, and all their rewards are garbage. The only thing you can find is equipment, and more often than not I was getting levels for starting equipment, making all these dungeons a literal waste of time. I LOVED doing a late game dungeon and getting 8 levels to my FIRST WEAPON. The story is boring, typical "you are the chosen one, go forth and fight" cookie-cutter stuff. There is a small twist that is interesting, but it can't salvage the overall plot. All villains are the "I win because I said so" type, until the Power of Friendship(TM) makes you win. All quests and side quests are "get item, kill thing". Enemy AI is terrible and all they do is spam whatever attack is off cooldown and walk towards you. The main "challenge" are either enemies that outlevel you or the sheer spam of attacks they do. All you do is wait for the enemies to spam their attacks, hit them a bit, then run away for the next line of attacks. And the comedy in this game is entirely based on replacing words with cat/dog related stuff. Paw, whisker, fur, purr, puss, woof, bark. That is the extent of the comedy you will find. Really, there is basically nothing worth looking in this game. The art might be cute, but its still a boring, repetitive, button mashing, mobile looking game. At least the characters no longer swear every other word.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

An Expanded, But Crooked Step In The Right Direction After A Forgettable Predecessor!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction & Premise
The Gentlebros’ “Cat Quest 2”, published by Kepler Interactive (yes, the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 publisher) is a step in the right direction after a poorly aged predecessor. This time, despite the name remaining the same, you’re actually not on a cat quest: you’re on a cat and dog quest! The big, shiny new spin on CQ 1’s gameplay is the addition of a sort of tag team singeplayer, where you can freely switch between a feline and canine protagonist on the fly, even mid-brawl. But, if you have a friend or partner, you can also play the entirety of Cat Quest 2 in local co-op. The game loosely continues an undisclosed, but ostensibly long amount of time after the first game. The dog and cat kingdoms are still at war, and the conflict is slowly reaching its zenith, with two opposing, but equally tyrannical kings at the helm of the bloodshed.
The Improvements
Cat Quest 2 comes with a solid amount of improvements over its predecessor. Chief among these? More diversity in sprites, sounds, stories, dungeons, enemies, bosses (specifically their attack patterns) and spells. Cat Quest 1 suffered from random slowdowns. Not like FPS lag spikes, but a total slowdown of the entire game. This issue, I’m very happy to report, is no longer present in CQ 2. Cat Quest 1’s chief strength were its aesthetics and humor. This trend continues in CQ 2 and it’s all even better, especially with the introduction of the aforementioned variety and the narrative taking place across both the dog and cat kingdoms. The sound design is likewise much improved. The game sounds good, it looks good and is humorous. Cat Quest 2 doesn’t feature any padding in the form of New Game+ achievements, which its predecessor was full of. There’s also way less rehashed content in the sequel, because you’re no longer tasked with re-clearing dungeons for side and main quests. There’s a smart new use for gold in CQ 2, namely buying upgrades for weapons and armor. In the first game, you only used gold for spells and nothing else, and by the time you were done with the game you had unbelievable amounts of excess leftover gold that you couldn’t do absolutely anything with.
What Stayed The Same/What Became Worse
Audio sliders have too few settings like in Cat Quest 1. Just like for that game, I had to lower the volume of Cat Quest 2 in my Windows audio mixer. The game has a lot more content than Cat Quest 1, and a lot less of that content is rehashed, both of these are true. On the flipside of that, though, the game is also way more grindy than CQ 1. The main story of the first Cat Quest was surprisingly engaging and interesting, even featuring some unexpected metanarrative exposition. Same goes for this sequel. It’s just a shame that some of the side quests of CQ 2 are absolutely idiotic nonsense, such as a weaponsmith teaching a general that the only weapon the general actually needs are his paws (fists) and “inner strength”. To this, the general thanks you for delivering this message and hands you his (definitely necessary) weapon and goes off to fight a massive war betweeen two kingdoms, with only his bare hands. There are quite a few questionable examples. The first game had its fair share of silly quests, but they were always little side-content jokes or metanarrative jokes from the dev team, but nothing that made a joke of the main narrative. Another quest type (which might’ve also been present in the first, I actually don’t remember) are quests where you have to do what you’re told, even when it’s obvious you’re obliviously helping a secret antagonistic force. Sometimes you do straight up imbecilic things, until the next quest in the chain, where you’re inevitably given no consequences and told what’s actually happening and how to fix it. Some quests and elements are also just shamelessly copied from CQ 1 in their entirety. Like some quests in CQ 2 are “references” to CQ 1 quests. These references usually just end up being 1-to-1 recreations… so yeah, slightly lazy. Lastly, some of the fights are way too tanky, way too visually busy and barely have any openings for melee. For this, a secret boss comes to mind, which looks like the regular, first enemy you fight in the game (a hedgehog), but takes barely any damage from any and all damage sources and can randomly, without any tell, activate a big AoE around itself, that moves alongside it and can basically instakill you. This boss also happens to be a redo from the first game (even being at the exact same spot on the map), but its way more unfair, tedious and unfun to fight here, in Cat Quest 2.
Summary
Cat Quest 1 is a mediocre game. Cat Quest 2 is slightly above average. If that doesn’t bother you, and you’re looking for a breezy, chill, but kind of middle-of-the-road experience, then feel free to give Cat Quest 2 a shot. Playing the first game helps a little, but is mostly unnecessary for playing this one, especially considering how many of the first game’s most iconic side quests are simply repeated here again. If you demand more than mediocrity and “a little above average” for your time, then stay away from this franchise.
