Positive because the story is well written and engaging, as are the graphics but as for the gameplay... "Hey guys! Lets program a game where the player is worthless until Chapter 4 and then tell them to just go back and replay the first four chapters! Also why have fun boss fights when we can do Shadow of the Colossus like bosses that just loop attacks the player cant punish." -Some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot. I don't mind difficult, but legit every single move being worthless (as you get hit out of them) or Gabriel not having a single I-frame (except when dodging, and enemies have the MW2 tele-knife distance) means you'll get stun-locked until death or until you have a sliver of health left where some off screen n'wah throws dust at you killing you instantly. Also restarting levels doesn't reset health, nor does progression, which always leaves you at 50% current max. ♥♥♥♥ dude, just fix your ♥♥♥♥ or don't present it to the class. Its 16 years old and RE1 classic is made with more design forethought than this. I assume it was due to the popularity of GoW (original trilogy) and DMC (original trilogy) but BOTH of those games have well crafted and enjoyable gameplay, unlike this ♥♥♥♥ filled sock.
Buen juego, buena historia. Desafiante. Muy buen Score de Oscar Araujo. Totalmente recomendable.
I can't talk about this game as a Castlevania reboot, but I was pleasantly suprised by it. The gameplay trend in hack and slash games from those years and early on, with examples like the first God of War's, Ghost Rider for the PS2 or Dante's Inferno, but it follows the formula well and tries to reimagine it here and there. The scenarios are beautiful and varied and the music follows through what the moment demands. I was engaged by the narrative which also caught me off guard. I predicted it would have a bland story, having the gameplay as its main strenght, but the narrative was quite interesting. The twists and turns it had, the development of the main character and the religious undertones you find during the levels with random notes was really well intertwined. I found myself curious to see how the truth would unfold its consequences as the game progressed. The art style is iconic too overall and one of its main points. Altho there are more pros, the cons are a few, but impactful. The gameplay has some terrible hitboxes and, altho the game presents various types of enemies, half of them share some moves like the ground slam. I've never seen a game with so many ground slams. There is also an inconsistancy where an enemy is presented as being fast by doing a quick attack and... latter a few enemies repeat the same move, loosing the point. In other matters, the narrative has some unnecessary detours and a convoluted situation at the ending but that can be easily ignored. The main con is the DLCs. They are dreadful and abysmal. Narrative-wise they try to bridge this first entry with the sequel with a half baked development that should be completely changed and built into the main story. There is a completely dispensable new danger that fills no place in the overall game, having one of the worst boss fight designs I've seen. And, the level designs are the worst I've found, not comparable in any way to the rest of the game. I would advice anyone to not play the DLC, which are placed as the last two chapters. 8.5/10. 7.5/10 with the DLC taken into account.
