About

The ancient Tranton family curse has forced young Miss Susan to embark on a perilous journey—one that will take her deep into the realm of the dead. Along the way, she will encounter ghostly inhabitants, forge unexpected alliances, face formidable enemies, and, most importantly, uncover the answer to the most haunting question of all: Who is truly responsible for the massacre of her entire family?

One day, in the grand halls of the Tranton family castle, a loving couple welcomed a daughter into the world—her name was Miss Susan.
Her father, Mr. Grinn was a man of remarkable charm and influence, deeply adored by his wife and daughter. But tragedy struck when he met a mysterious and untimely death.
Grief consumed Susan’s mother, Miss Agatha, who found herself lost in sorrow, wandering the castle like a shadow, unable to bear the weight of her loss. Those around her, hoping to bring her solace, arranged for her to remarry. Her new husband, Mr. Austin was a rich and intelligent gentleman. This union brought a small sense of order back into the family.
Yet this fragile peace was nothing more than an illusion.
Like a black cat prowling in the night, misfortune slinked through the halls, leaving whispers of curses and sins in its wake…

6/10 https://youtu.be/V2TfD6wtbFo https://youtu.be/NTGUG0fwGeE https://youtu.be/USUOeR0AdhM

ortalamanın altında kalan bir oyun. garip garip bug'ları olsun (bkz: taş boyama masasında yaşanan bug'lar), save edişinizin aslında ilerlemenizi kaydetmemesi olsun (o bölüme en baştan başlamanız gerekiyor), bazı aşırı anlamsız bulmacaları olsun (keçiye önce 4 şişe viski içiriyoruz, içirecek hiçbir şey bulamayınca zehir içiyoruz, sonra da panzehirle iyileştiriyoruz), oyuna olan sabrımı epeyce bitirmişti. sonunu merak ettiğim için, öylesine oynuyordum... ta ki bataklıktaki taş maskeler puzzle'ına gelene kadar. farklı renk maskeler var bunların birini itince diğeri açılıyor işte açılan yoldan yürüyüp geçmeye çalışıyorsunuz tam geçerken altınızdaki maske suya düşüyor boğulup ölüyorsunuz vs. böyle olunca uğraşmak istemeyip bıraktım. tamam güzel görsellik ama güzel görsellik bir oyunu tek başına kurtarmıyor işte, üzgünüm. sırf bulmaca olsun diye konulmuş ve hikayeye katkısı olmayan çooook fazla şey var o yüzden bunalttı.
Buggy mess, story is all over the place with many gaps you have to fill in yourself, and so many chapters. I had to look at a video to see how many, 17. and you have to do it 3 times for each ending. It is worth the $5 sale but man, the bugs that make you restart are absurdly awful.

Schade. Du hast schon etwas lange was von.
This game was all over place and not in a good way unfortunately. So, originally I played the demo of this (called Prologue although it's a demo of the first level and doesn't include anything unique) and I liked the art style of it, and the puzzle in the introduction was serviceable. I like hidden object games and exploration type of games, so this seemed like it might be fun to play through. And some parts of it are done well, even charming. The characters in the game are all in a style that seems hand-painted or hand-illustrated and are 2D sprites that turn and move almost like a Paper Mario game. It's a nice visual identity, and while I would have like having the backgrounds also be painted / illustrated in the same way, the game still looked nice and had a really striking presentation. The music and audio were average, but not bad by any measure. The voice acting also seemed mostly fine to me, although there were issues around the voices not related to the performance of the voice actors themselves that I will cover later. But the narrative overall is very unsatisfying and really nonsensical. Mild spoilers, but the main character that you control, Susan, traverses the strange environs of the underworld. Most levels are just random characters or places that don't have any information about Susan herself. Some levels have small scripted scenes with characters that expand the plot, but like, those characters could appear in any place. So, again why in all these random locations? Where is Susan even going? There is no clear destination or logic from level to level. I will also just get this out of the way now, the name of the game? Castle of Secrets? Takes place in a castle? No. Or at least not that I saw. Maybe the different levels are supposed to be a castle of some kind? Maybe? I have no idea. Some of the levels seemed very far removed from a castle, like being "outdoors" -- as outdoors as the underworld can be. I also found some of the depictions of the underworld to be confusing or at times downright insulting. It wasn't always clear why someone who was being punished was being punished for example. Sometimes someone who had died is depicted as a ghost, but sometimes they're just a normal version of themselves just in the underworld, and yet some other times they are just motionless skeletons? The way this is written and the game is named makes me think that at some point this was supposed to take place in a real albeit kooky castle and Susan would be talking to ghosts and exploring catacombs, but at some point this was scrapped and the story was rewritten. It has a kind of Alice in Wonderland vibe where things seem to be nonsensical or illogical on purpose? But this part of the game never endeared itself to me. There is also platforming and this was frustrating to have be included. I say this because parts of the game involve rotating Susan's 2D plan in some way to allow her to access different parts of the environment. I like this idea, but what feels intuitive then is to use up and down to move onto alternative paths in those directions from Susan, especially since you already use left and right to move. But no, up is jump. And space is jump. The platform sections feel unnatural and stiff in this game world and many seem to use cheap gotchas that force you to attempt them a few times. For example, sometimes you will need to jump onto a platform that rotates through the environment. You would expect that is Susan would rotate along with it because nothing else makes sense. But in this game, despite there being nothing to knock you off, Susan will just stay in the same place while the platform just rotates out from under her, leaving her to just fall. This is just wrong, it's nonsense. There are other frustrating design choices in the game to that make it hard to play and unenjoyable. The selectable portion of any interactive object often seems to be woefully undersized. For example, a valve you have to turn is a small ring with spokes attached that you must grab and rotate. But, if your cursor is between those spokes, it doesn't think you're hovering over it anymore. You have to be pixel-perfect directly on it. Doors that you need to use keys on will be completely hidden from view by the side angle you're viewing it in. While other hidden object games allow you to click an object to select it and then click where you want to use it, Castle of Secrets insists that you click and drag every item, and the margin of error is extremely thin, don't drag an object slightly off of a thin rope, it won't could if you do that. There is a hint function that reminds me of the hint feature in most hidden object games, but even this is frustrating to use; the hint function will show sonar pings from interactible objects or items around you, but will also show items through walls, places where items used to be, or sometimes places where there is no object and I couldn't figured out why it was being pinged. And even beyond that, sometimes grabbing objects wouldn't behave consistently; sometimes clicking a placeable object would return it to your inventory, sometimes it would think you were trying to drag it, causing it to just return to it's resting position until you explicitly dragged it all the way down to your inventory bar. You could click and drag to rearrange your inventory, but with all the other issues, this was of little comfort. What puzzles were there to solve were either so simple they could easily be beaten, or so poorly communicated / explained that just trying to figure out what it even wanted you to do would solve the puzzle because the challenging part was even what you were supposed to be doing in the first place. I will die on this hill, but the colored gem puzzle near the end of the game is just wrong and doesn't make sense, the "solution" contains a contradiction and isn't valid. In other words, the puzzles were not great, didn't really like many of them at all compared to most hidden object games. While I consider that a game design issue and not a bug, unfortunately there are plenty of bugs as well. Sometimes levels could soft lock and force you to restart. Sometimes voices would changed voice actors from level to level, or sometimes completely change languages entirely to Russian when the first 3 levels were in English. Some parts of levels were broken and could not be completed in one way only the other; for example Level 15 is supposed to give you a choice, but the part of the level you should be able to interact with is broken forcing you to only be able to make one choice. And on all 3 endings, the game froze, leaving me only hearing audio and unable to watch the ending, or seeming to skip dialog entirely so out of context comments just start being said by characters that I don't understand. One time after a scripted scene ended, it left the scripted version of Susan and I had 2 Susans standing next to each other. I could go on, but suffice to say the QA is not thorough and even things like the game's endings don't seem to work. So all that playtime just to miss what is supposed to be happening at the end. The endings really aren't impactful anymore because I didn't know what was going on. To finally conclude my thoughts and pull together a summary, Castle of Secrets is a confusing slog that will quickly eat up your patience and your time. It isn't fun, the story is confusing, it has a lot of unfixed bugs, and then as the cherry on top, you are expected to go through it 2 more times for all the "endings." I would suggest trying to balance your choices out on earlier levels so that maybe half way through you can focus on one type of choice and split each save slot into its own type of karma / ending to reduce having to replay if you can. Trust me, even if you still want to play this, the less time spent replaying levels, the better, you'll thank me.
