Reviews
you should get this game because my friend made it and it rlly cool
For starters, I don't write reviews very often. For this game though, this is an exception. I have been fascinated by ancient and prehistoric life since I was 7, growing up on documentaries such as walking with monsters and alien planet. This made me very excited when I saw this game and almost immediately buy it. I say this game is amazing but has some very serious drawbacks and i'm worried they might not get touched up or fixed as the developer hasn't updated the game in a bit. Lets go over the pros first though Pros: Very good atmosphere A HUGE variety of creatures to play The Living Encyclopedia is a really fun edition Now lets get into the cons Cons: Very big lack of other animals, the map feels empty and devoid of life most of the time despite it being a life sim Not a big variety of animals that spawn, only around 4-5 animals will actually spawn, this is odd to me as there is a pool of over 40 creatures the player can play as yet almost none of them will actually appear as random animals in the world Predators are very rare, This makes the game have almost no edge as you will rarely ever see an actual predator so there almost no fear as a prey animal Predators aren't aggressive, I found it really difficult to actually get predators to chase me and try to kill me, and that was me going out of my way to make it happen. In ordinary gameplay, predators barely exist as they will never chase you unless you get really close. I really hope the developer will see this review as this game has an amazing base that only has a couple flaws, these flaws though really hold back the gameplay and can make it very unfun. thank you for reading
I personally want to thank Daye Star Productions for this beautiful game. It has quite honestly changed my perspective of snails on the ground. Also, for all the professional Cambrian Dawn players, the current meta is Squamacula, you can thank me later.
I LOVE Cambrian Dawn! I haven't played much of it yet- But as someone with a huge interest in paleontology, life, evolution, and as an artist, this feels custom made for me. I have been thoroughly charmed from the start. It is colourful and beautiful. The creatures all have an incredible amount of care put into their designs, both from a scientific view and an artistic view. I love watching the limbs move as I swim. I love playing with the different species to see them in action. The environment is very well designed. The music feels thematic, perfectly in place for the underwater setting. And even though I am a big paleontology nerd, I've even learned things from the living encyclopedia. Everything is easy to find in the menu. The controls are intuitive; I figured them out without using the tutorial. This game was very clearly made with so much love. Love for the Cambrian explosion and it's species and for sharing them. I really hope to see this game take off, although I know it is niche. To the dev/s: thank you for Cambrian Dawn! I hope you continue to pursue projects like this! <3
I bought Cambrian Dawn instead of paying rent this month. It been fun playing as an Anomalocaris from the streets.
this game is amazing as someone who grew up loving paleontology and mostly studies cambrian and other eras of natural history this game is awesome ether as a trilobite or other animal this game is hours of fun
This game is awesome, always looking for some good Paleozoic stuff especially with the prevalence of all the Dino games these days. Great work! Also an excellent educational resource as well. Thank you for the work you have put into this game, it brings me immense joy to see something like this in the steam store. One request I have, however, is it would be nice to be able to rebind controls. My left shift key is broken and I am unable to sprint. I understand this may be a slightly difficult feature to implement, so perhaps there could be an option where you could toggle between two preset keyboard configurations, such as WASD, E, V, and Left Shift & Arrow keys, period and comma, and right shift! Thank you again for your work on this game, it really has made my day!
