About
Cairn’s realistic simulation allows intuitive climbing: find the best holds and place your hands and feet seamlessly with simple controls. Adapt your posture, effort and balance —if you're not careful, you will fall!
As pro climber Aava, you embark on the ascent of Mount Kami, a summit that has never been reached. Along the journey, meet unexpected companions and hear from those left on the ground. Discover the mountain's history and decide what Aava is willing to sacrifice to achieve her dream.
You are free to climb anywhere. Explore the mountain, read the rock face from the ground and plan your route carefully to reach the top. Solve problems while on the wall to navigate difficult sections. You can climb on anything, so choose your path wisely!
Climbing is challenging: each wall feels like a boss fight. A thrilling challenge for those eager to test themselves, but you can also adjust the difficulty to customise your experience.
Manage your resources to survive during the long ascent: pitons, chalk, finger tape... but also food, water and medicine. Set up bivouacs and explore the mountain to find resources to reach the summit.
An unforgettable experience from the makers of Furi and Haven, with music and sound design by the team behind Limbo, Inside, Control and Cocoon, and art and story by renowned comic-book artist Mathieu Bablet.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 18/day in the week to Aug 6 → 24.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Cairn could have been an excellent game. It's a masterpiece. We play as Aava, a top-tier professional climber who has resolved to summit Mount Kami, a mythical mountain that has never been successfully climbed. We begin in medias res. Aava's story and personality reveal themselves gradually as the climb unfolds. For the ascent, she carries nothing but a climbot, her backpack, a life devoted entirely to her craft, and an unshakeable determination. The first challenge, as you'd expect, was finding gameplay that could satisfyingly simulate climbing a mountain. On that front, it's a bullseye. The developers have managed to design a climbing system that's intuitive without being simplistic, magnificently served by cel-shaded visuals that bring out the mountain's contours and let you gauge the quality of a hold at a glance. The visuals are sumptuous, the gameplay demanding and gripping, all while offering a full range of difficulty settings that suit casual players and hardcore challenge-seekers alike. On top of that comes a genuinely well-thought-out survival system. You'll manage your pack, tape your fingers, gather food, locate water sources, eat, and make camp regularly to restore your energy. Is it a strict climbing simulator? No. The developers have dreamed up believable pieces of technology that spare us some of the tedium of a real ascent: a light-staff, and above all a climbot, tasked with retrieving our pitons, composting our waste, and relaying messages from our loved ones — often much to the protagonist's annoyance. The music? Most of the time it's stripped back to the sound of the wind, our grunts of effort, the noise of nature itself. And then, suddenly, a swell of music unfurls to underscore a moment of tension. Is it a pure climbing game, then? Not that either. Little by little, an almost ethnological dimension layers itself on top — as unexpected as it is absorbing. Because in the world of Cairn, the mountain was, until recently, home to a native people who revered Mount Kami. As we climb, we uncover their architectural feats and traces of their traditional culture, along with the reasons they eventually chose to descend. These cliff-dwellers — distantly evocative of Japan, Tibet, the Greco-Bactrian kingdoms — are a welcome addition that, beyond the survival-and-performance layer, makes every stop along the way fascinating. You catch yourself fishing in a sacred pool, deciphering rock-cut inscriptions, climbing a stretch of mountainside for no reason other than to learn a little more. We are never alone against nature. Others are always present: our loved ones, the cliff-dwellers whose works command real admiration, the rare encounters — made all the more powerful by their scarcity — or Aava's own relentless drive, which we sense was forged by some buried trauma. And that's where the game truly sets itself apart and becomes exceptional. Because Cairn is, at its core, a psychological journey to the very edge of the self, one that interrogates our relationship to life and to other people — a world away from the somewhat hollow celebration of athletic feats, or the too-cool posturing so many sports games settle for. Aava is a haunted woman, whose radical life choices set her apart from ordinary people. Whether or not you grow attached to her, these grueling hours on the flanks of Mount Kami remind us that climbing at this level isn't simply a test of willpower and an athletic feat — it's also an escape, a hostage-taking of the people who love you, an extreme quest for self that often comes at others' expense. Cairn holds up a mirror to ourselves: what are our goals? What are we willing to sacrifice to reach them? What meaning do we give our lives? And the climb itself — demanding total concentration, leaving your palms sweating on the controller — simultaneously interrogates our relationship to that other journey we're all on, without ever quite knowing where it ends: life.

An absolute masterpiece, highly recommend this to everyone
Stunning to look at, at times emotionally draining to play. I've played a few climbing sims and this is definitely the best.
