Build from Scratches is a short and cozy puzzle game about fixing things, or more accurately, reconstructing them from their individual parts. The game currently features 30 levels, spanning a variety of objects such as toys, electronics, and guns. Some levels add extra steps, requiring you to clean rust or dirt from the components before assembly. In most cases, the process is fairly straightforward, though roughly a third of the levels offer a more substantial challenge. You’re not shown what the final object should look like (unless you peek at the Collections tab, which displays a small reference image), but that isn’t a big issue. Starting with obvious connections (such as attaching a robot’s legs to its body) usually provides enough momentum to reach a solution. As you progress, the remaining pieces begin to fall into place, and their purpose becomes clearer. That said, a handful of levels feature many small, similar-looking parts whose correct placement can be quite difficult to deduce. For me, levels involving guns or complex electronics were especially challenging. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3660716712 Much of the game’s appeal lies in figuring out the correct order in which pieces should be assembled. One restriction of this mechanic is that even when two parts are compatible, they must be combined in a very specific order. Placing piece A onto piece B might fail, while doing the reverse works just fine. With more abstract devices and unusually shaped parts, the correct arrangement can be difficult to deduce, leading to a fair amount of trial and error. In these cases, it would have helped if the pieces were designed more intuitively (for example, by featuring unique details that make their placement and interaction clearer) or if there were some light textual hints suggesting which pieces belong together. A similar game, Assemble With Care, addresses this issue by dividing levels into multiple stages, only introducing new parts once the previous stage has been completed. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3660716684 To help the player, the game provides clear visual feedback during assembly. Parts that can be combined are highlighted with a green background when hovered over one another, while pieces that cannot be rotated are marked with a yellow background. If two parts cannot be joined at a given moment, the game displays an explicit error message, and it does a similar thing when a piece is oriented incorrectly. While this doesn’t eliminate the difficulty of more complex levels, it does make brute-forcing them faster and less frustrating. Beyond the puzzles themselves, the game includes a very light narrative framework. You play as Steve, who decides to become a repairman after being laid off from his job as a technician. Each object you assemble comes with a little piece of flavor text explaining its origin, how it broke, or why the customer wants it repaired. While it doesn’t weave a deep story in the manner Assemble With Care does, where each repair request showcases personal moments in the lives of the characters, the short text snippets of Build from Scratches add a bit of charm and context to the whole experience. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3660716819 Overall, Build from Scratches is a cozy little game about fixing things. Its colorful, hand-crafted visuals keep the gameplay on a light note, even when some puzzles demand extra work, especially if you’re not familiar with how those items are put together. While these levels can feel overly dependent on trial and error, the game’s clear feedback and the satisfaction of putting objects back together make it a nice and relaxing puzzle experience overall. A first look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP1Qezuhnnw This little puzzle moment was the cozy blanket I needed this weekend after a slightly rougher week. And now that I played it out, all I can think of is a second build from scratch or more levels, simply because I enjoyed my time in there. The puzzles start out simple, where you can click pieces together. And don’t worry about making a small mistake! As long as your one piece turns green when overlapping the other, you’re good to go. And while that might feel too simple for some, I welcomed that it wasn’t overcomplicated or hard. After all, the game is meant to be chill and cozy. Not an over-the-top Dark Souls puzzle. In a way, it almost felt meditative. And you know me, with a nice podcast in the background, I was completely immersed in the puzzle. With a touch of nostalgia, for me as well. Them good old days of a Tamagotchi and a Game Boy. Absolutely lovely! Gradually, the levels grew a little cleverer and more challenging, but not too much. Although I do admit there was one level I struggled with, just a little. That Bayblade level will haunt me for a while, haha. The kind of even if the solution would slap me in the face, I still would’ve missed it, probably. In a way, it made me think or feel that if you know the layout of something a little, it is easier to solve it than an object (like the battle top) that you’re unfamiliar with. Yet it never felt unfair. So that was super nice and, for me personally, satisfying. I managed to break the last level, whoops! So, I had to reach out. I got a little lucky that my time zone overlapped with the developers for a brief window. And he acted quickly to look into it and help me out. I believe even if the overlap wasn’t there, I would’ve heard back in a flash. I can tell this game was made with love and soul. From the quick actions of the dev to the beautiful artwork, a simple yet heartfelt storyline, and chill gameplay. And even how every item has a little cute back story! For me, it all adds up to a big thumbs-up with the question… Build from Scratch 2 or more levels when? Because it left me craving for it! And I would love that very much. Every item has a cute lil backstory VS we getting old ya’ll! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3659223883 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3659224055
I would be super grateful if you could consider following me over at the following places for more first looks, reviews, recommendations, etc:

| My first looks | ~My YouTube channel. this is not satisfying for me to play the way it works is it doesn't matter WHERE you put the object as long as its the correct orientation and right order it will just snap into place you don't need to actually get the right spot at all id say if you want a really really simple put it together game then ya get it
Love casual cozy game? Try this game and won't be regretted.
This is a really fun game. It might end a bit quickly, but I feel like it’s worth playing through all the levels and challenges.
At first, the game looks like a simple piece-matching puzzle, but once you start playing, it quickly proves to be more complex than expected. Each object requires careful thought, and some repairs take time to figure out, making the process feel genuinely challenging rather than automatic.
Fun indie game, but hard to master. It perfectly fits with me since I have no time to play continuously since I need to work everyday, but everytime I come back to play, I still find it challenging and worth my time to collect achievements.
