SHIPSHAPE is a marvelous, well-designed throwback to 80's beat-em-ups! The combat is addicting, the sounds are fun and even the story is pretty neat. There is quite a bit of variety- standard walking levels, riding levels and unique special moves. There are 10 levels of gameplay, and it keeps getting more fun, the more you progress! Not many new brawlers are super-great, whether they're retro-style or not, but this game takes the fun and style to, well, a whole new level (literally and metaphorically)! Fun for all ages and interests. 10 out of 10!
i found a bug where if you free the king at the end it says you didnt free em
Yep, this is a great retro beat em up. There is so much to like here, and I will say up front the only thing I don't like, so we get the one negative out of the way. I would have liked the 4 different characters to feel a bit more varied to one another than they do. For example, with the double tap and attack combo, they all do a sliding kick. In streets of rage 2, you will see they all do very, very different running attack specials. That's about it. Everything else is positive. Looks great with tons of parallax, catchy tunes, all the options you need to customise controls to your precise liking, same with sound and music balance, and FPS goes up to 200 unlike the barrage of game recently that are capped to 60. I don't see an in game v sync option weirdly enough as I think it would have been nice to cap it to my screen's 144hz rate and have no tearing, and at such a high sustained frame rate the vsync doesn't noticeably disrupt input lag. However I worked around this by locking it to 120 FPS with RTSS, and it's stable and very very low input lag, and with perfect multiples of 60 FPS on this panel, if it's a stable sustained frame rate that doesn't fluctuate, I don't seem to get noticeable tearing. If i lock it to 140 for example, it tears. So a vsync option never hurts as an OPTION to those who want to use it. That said, I will have a G-Sync set up soon so this is moot, but it may affect others. I haven't tried using Nvidia CPL for Vsync through that. It's a ton of fun, a very fast paced beat em up with lots of neat little touches, the bird is especially unique, and I can't see anyone who loves this genre NOT having fun with this. Online would have made it amazing, but it's cheap and cheerful and I don't expect online for this price category. It DOES have remote play, so anyone out there who wants to do a 2 player run with me, friend me and lets do it! Nice game indeed! Keeping this one. Will play through the entire thing tonight. Edit, I just realised there is an entire second game included apart from the streets of rage style beat em up! There is a 2D king fu master/vigilante style arcade game also that is a recreation of an old arcade game that I had never heard of. What a great buy! Highly recommended.
Game is looking awesome! It's like you're in the golden SNES era again. The amount and variety of enemies is just great and you can totally see the respect and effort the creator has added to it. Really liked the animations from the characters and how they interact with the environments or action at hand. Environments and color palette are feeling fresh and vivid and the Xbox controller runs really smooth! Huge plus to have added the original version too, this game is not like the real deal, it is the real deal! I also really liked the soundtrack!!
Cool game!
Very impressive OpenBOR game. Had a lot of fun with it. Great for my 4-player arcade cabinet. If you're cool with the art style, definitely worth buying if you're looking for more multi-player beat 'em ups.
Charming, fun, not too challenging on base difficulty. About 40 minutes in a playthrough. If you like scrolling beat em ups, this is a good time. And very reasonably priced
