Wow, really enjoying this one. Completely forgot about it after playing the demo a while back and just noticed it had released. Great skill variety during the round and in the meta tree. Also has seamless switching between manual aim and autolame. Graphics are great for a survivors game as well. It's definitely got some jank going on though, like being prompted to uninstall and then reinstall C++ each time you play (first time I've ever seen that one), even though I already have MS Visual Studio. But it's good. Not too easy, not too hard either.
As an Early Access title, the game isn’t fully polished yet, but it’s already showing incredible promise. The three available classes feel unique, offering enough variety for players who love experimenting with different strategies. The difficulty is well-balanced, tough enough to keep you on your toes, but not so punishing that it feels frustrating. With high replayability and a rewarding meta-progression system, it’s a fantastic pick for rogue-lite fans. The recent performance improvements are noticeable, making the experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Depressing. Very little explanation is given to what to do and what any upgrades do. The controller connection is poorly utilized and awkward. The only reason I had a chance at understanding some of the mechanics is because of my familiarity with the game Nordic Ashes, which was brilliantly executed. This seems like a very poorly executed attempt to copy that style.
Probably my favorite VS-like at the moment. There's something about the combat's feel compared to others that really resonates with me. Dodging feels effective as you phase through enemies, deal damage as you go, and make meaningful decisions about when to act. Skills you choose tend to have a greater impact here than in many similar games. I also really enjoy the meta skill tree, though it could benefit from more passive skills.
In the highly crowded field of 'survivor' games Brutus Maximus is among the family that stands out, even in Early Access, due to playability, superior visuals, and solid mechanical design. Weaponry/abilities follow an aesthetic closer to undead Legionnaire character weapons, rather than more disconnected generic abilities to be found in many survivor games. A linear progression strategic map provides the setting for each of your runs, success in one unlocking the next area on the way to Rome. Characters have distinct meta-progression trees. And the developer is quite responsive to bug reports on this EA journey, fixing a visual error within 72 hours of its materialization. Definitely good stuff here. Fun.

soooo goood
If you’re into VS games, this one’s a must-try. Brutus Maximus hits all the right notes: fast-paced battles, endless upgrades, and a cool Roman Empire vibe. Even in Early Access, it’s hard to put down. Games like this don’t come along every day.
Three distinct classes, great progression, and balanced difficulty make this a promising Early Access title for rogue-lite enthusiasts.
