Alright, first a premise. At first I was very afraid I was going to have a very frustrating experience with this game, mainly because of the reviews I had read and the comments of the dev himself, that defined his own game as very cruel, harsh and punishing. Definitely not a good start, right? Fortunately, now that I have 100%ed the game, I can say in all honesty that I completely disagree with such definitions. I know what the dev truly meant in his comments, but actually this game is not cruel, nor punishing. It is, very simply, a game that respects the intelligence of the player. There's no tutorial, no hand holding, you have to figure everything out all by yourself. You are completely alone, and all the game demands is just a bit of attention. Yes, the punishment for mistakes is almost always immediate death, but the checkpoints are many and even generous, so I honestly don't understand where all this frustration might come from. In an age where games always tell you what to do and where to go, to the point of being even annoying, I say that a game like this, that treats you like an intelligent life form who can solve its problems on its own, is a nice breath of fresh air. But speaking of the game itself, is it any good? Yes, absolutely! This is a game that fully succeeds in conveying to the player the true meaning of "psychological horror". That dreadful, yet incredibly captivating mood of helplessness that made the classics of the genre so great. During your adventure, you'll visit an extremely dark, dirty and violent world, where the survival of the strongest is the only law. To proceed, you have to be merciless, as cruel as your foes, and above all smarter! What I appreciated the most in this game, besides of course its incredible atmosphere, is the fact that it forces you to beat with intelligence what you can't beat with raw strength. The perfect formula for a complete immersion in this delisciously haunting world. I say this is a must-play for all the fans of horror in its purest form, and for all those players who can handle stressful situations and enjoy the addictive feeling of anxiety. Try it blindly if you want to experience true fear in a game that absolutely stands out of all the trash that fills the steam store nowadays. Cheers guys!
It's a splendid take on the mental/psychological horror genre. I'm a massive Resident Evil fan, and this was unique, and it kept some elements I could relate to in both games. It yields several jump scares, a disturbingly haunting atmosphere, interesting puzzles, and an easy story to follow. I beat the game and every level got better and better. It was definitely worth the price - it was quite a lot of fun despite being quite challenging to learn at the start. Also has some banger music. I need the OST somewhere!
I am very intrigued by this game. The atmosphere just pulled me in. It's a weird asylum. Each floor seems to have their own rules etc. It even has voice over work. This brings the game world to life more. The story revolves around the player character lookin into details on his wife's disappearance. I love this graphic style. Can't go wrong with the old. I've barely gotten into the game but I can say that it is worth the money. I plan to dive in more. If ur into horror give this one a go. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/zoOgV2pdxpc
Seemed like a cool game. Maybe it will be for some. However, I only played for about 20 minutes before I threw up the deuces and shut it down. Perhaps I was in a bit of an impatient mood, but as a fairly seasoned veteran of this type of game, the first encounter with the "artist" just struck me as silly bs. After seeing how on-your-ass he is from the get go, my will to continue was zapped and I bade this one and its slippery floors farewell. MY ATTEMPT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBHFyrMTyNA
Broken Psyche is a psychological horror experience that prioritizes atmosphere and mental tension over traditional action, placing players in a bleak and unsettling investigation that gradually unravels into something far more disturbing. You take on the role of a detective searching for his missing wife, a case that leads into an abandoned asylum filled with fragmented clues, hostile entities, and an overwhelming sense that reality itself is beginning to fracture. From the very beginning, the game establishes a tone that is oppressive and uneasy, relying more on slow-building dread than on sudden shock. The gameplay is structured around exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival, with an added emphasis on managing the protagonist’s mental state. As you move through the environment, you are constantly gathering notes, examining objects, and trying to piece together what happened within the asylum. However, the process is complicated by a sanity system that directly affects perception. The more stress the character experiences, the more distorted the world becomes, making navigation and decision-making increasingly difficult. This mechanic adds an interesting layer of tension, as players are not only trying to survive external threats but also attempting to maintain clarity in a world that grows more unreliable over time. Encounters with enemies are handled cautiously, with the game discouraging direct confrontation in favor of avoidance and careful movement. Rather than focusing on combat skill, the experience leans into vulnerability, making each encounter feel more like a threat to be managed than a challenge to be overcome. This approach aligns well with the overall tone, reinforcing the idea that the protagonist is outmatched and must rely on awareness and restraint. Resource management plays a supporting role, with items and tools providing limited assistance, but these systems remain relatively simple and do not evolve significantly throughout the game. One of the more notable aspects of the design is how it incorporates player choice into the experience. Decisions made during exploration and interaction can influence the outcome, adding a sense of consequence to even small actions. However, the game often provides little guidance on how these choices will affect the story, which can make the experience feel uncertain or even confusing at times. This lack of clarity contributes to the overall atmosphere but can also make progression feel inconsistent, especially for players who prefer more structured objectives. Visually, the game adopts a dark and minimalistic style that emphasizes mood over detail. The asylum is presented as a bleak, repetitive space, with dim lighting and narrow corridors that create a sense of confinement. This design effectively supports the psychological horror elements, making the environment feel oppressive and disorienting. At the same time, the lack of visual variety can make the setting feel monotonous over time, and navigating the environment can occasionally become frustrating due to limited visual cues. The pacing of the experience is intentionally uneven, alternating between slow, investigative segments and moments of heightened tension. This structure allows the game to build suspense gradually, but it can also lead to periods where progress feels unclear or stalled. The combination of vague objectives and the pressure of the sanity system can make certain sections feel more frustrating than engaging, particularly when players are unsure of how to proceed. Despite these issues, the game’s thematic focus remains one of its strongest elements. It explores ideas related to mental instability, trauma, and perception, using both narrative and mechanics to reinforce these concepts. The integration of these themes into gameplay gives the experience a distinct identity, setting it apart from more conventional horror titles. While not always executed smoothly, the ambition behind this approach is evident. The overall scope of the game reflects its indie nature, with a clear emphasis on concept over refinement. While it introduces several interesting ideas, such as the sanity system and branching outcomes, these elements are not fully developed into a cohesive whole. Technical and design inconsistencies occasionally disrupt the experience, and the lack of polish can make it feel rough around the edges. In the end, Broken Psyche is a dark and experimental horror game that succeeds in creating an unsettling atmosphere and exploring complex themes, but struggles with clarity, pacing, and mechanical depth. It offers moments of genuine tension and intrigue, particularly for players who enjoy slower, narrative-driven horror, but its rough execution and limited guidance may make it difficult for some to fully engage with. It stands as a project with strong ideas that are only partially realized, resulting in an experience that is memorable for its ambition but uneven in its delivery. Rating: 6/10
乱七八糟的一坨。画质模糊,游戏剧情也模糊。卡关在燃烧的位置了。
Audio mixing is totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥ even with the sliders set, First enemy spawned behind me and pushed me against a wall so I couldn't move and just spammed attacks for 2 minutes until I died
this would be cool if it didnt have terrible design in the monster chases. for some reason the creature from the picture up there is an instant kill and only shows up in hallways, so good luck dodging them. also it seems like the game expects you to do puzzles mid chase sequence, which like, no that sucks. the clown was at least tolerable, but the stuff with the suck creature just sucks lol. oh yeah, if you dont buy the cigarette item or you run out, the game will just start yelling at you and sending ghosts at you to yell. it wont kill you, but you will be annoyed to death lol.
