At first it seems like you're in for a fun, laid back mystery where you explore a good looking island for a while, and just have some fun... Then after 15-20 minutes, when you've finished it, (took me exactly 18, including setting up the couple of options in the beginning) you see that it's just an advertisement, wrapped in a tech demo. Honestly it would have taken only a little bit of effort to turn this into a short-but-good experience, but that effort was simply not put in. Had potential, didn't use it.
It was interesting experience. But the brightness of each time was too different and painful. Morning was too bright, and during the sunset and the night were too dark. I couldn't see anything! And enemies, the sharks, were too kind so I could handle them as my pets. I mean they sholud become more brutal and persistent hunters. I'm really counting on this game, keep going!

It's a tech demo more than an actual game. Sure, what's there looks pretty, but that's about it. Landscape is very sparce, there is exactly no direction on what you're to do (which is find 4 hidden skulls and unlock a door on the main island
so you can see the ad for the developers Twitch channel and another game
) and the breath mechanic is on way too short a timer. Whole game can be beaten in 15-30 min or less, depending how quick you find the chests. Not worth a download.
This is probably my first review for a game ever so that says something. When I saw this game I swear I thought the reviews were mostly positive so I thought I would give it a shot because it seemed ok. Was I wrong though. When I started it up I saw it said it was a 32 hour game so I didn't expect much but apparently I still expected more. There are no settings other than when you first start the game, the music only plays when you're under water, they is no guidance (which isn't a bad thing when they give you a bit of story so you have some idea of your purpose in life, but this game doesn't give you story), the uh sharks are just big fish that don't care about you, and there's a day and night cycle which sounds cool but if you don't beat the game before it turns night just restart or afk for 10 minutes until it's day because you won't be able to see anything. Practically no controls as well, all you do is look at things. Ok well there's got to be some great reward for completeing this "puzzle" with no direction right? Well yes, yes there is! It's a 10 second ad! Absolute waste of time. Very pretty looking game though I'll give it that.
BREATHE is an advertising game for PTBO Game Jam. However, if you put the advertisement aside and don't expect too much of it, it can be a good experience. You wake up on a desert Island surrounded by water (obviously), you decide to try your luck, dive and explore, watching out for your breath because you certainly don't want to drown. Also if you go past the invisible boundaries, you die as well. That's the only survival feature, otherwise you can swim with the sharks peacefully. You realize very soon that your goal is to open chests and find 4 skulls in order to unlock a secret passage. Up to you to check under water and on the islands. It's pretty much like a Walking Simulator and that's why the game is a tease. Despite it being a short promotion, BREATHE feels like the demo of a bigger adventure, in which you can explore islands, the sea, and somehow eventually escape. Now I really want to play an underwater Walking Simulator (or should I say Swimming Simulator ?). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1324997087 Pros :

Free
Beautiful graphics
Treasure hunting
Day / night cycle
Exploration underwater
Swim fearlessly with fishes and sharks
Good enough to spend 20-40 minutes on it
Has potential
Cons :

DON'T YELL AT ME AND DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO
Short and not much to do
Daylight is way too bright
Music only plays when you're under water, so it stops everytime you catch your breath
Very limited area to explore with invisible borders
You'll probably go in circles for a while before finding the last skull
Thinking of the fact that this game was made in 32 hours and it's only for advertasting porpuses I wouldn't describe it as one of my worst gaming experiences, but I'm not sure why someone would ever want to download this and try it out. The graphics are great, I'll give them a 7 out of 10, but the motion is creepy, it gave me a headache, I don't know if it's because I'm not very used to them but I don't want to see if I ever will. (btw I goota give it to them, they did a good job with the day/night thing, looks great) The principle of the game is simple, you wake up on a very small island having very little space to move and you have to open chests you find there (so basicly you have to just explore the island). The main problem is that it lacks dynamism (the only way you can die is by drowning. Yes, sharks won't attack you), it's just boring. If you download it just don't expect too much, check the graphics and the way you move and that's it, it's an okay 15-25 minutes experience.
Absolutely breathtaking. This was one of the most immersive sessions I have had in any video game I have played. The graphics are amazing and the puzzle aspect is great. I actually found myself really enjoying the confusion of not having any HUD or pointers. Truly a masterpiece. All of the other reviewers simply just didn't understand the game or didn't like the genre. I would highly recommend this game. Note to the developers: I would pay $60 for a full-fledged game like this. I look forward to whatever your team has to offer.
Don't forget to BREATHE!
BREATHE is a short walking simulator that was made in less than 40 hours for a "game jam", which (if I recall correctly) is when game devs create a game for presentation within an incredibly short amount of time (usually being within a week or less) and advertises such at the end. Your goal (though it's not stated in-game) is to collect 4 skulls from chests (2 under water and 2 on land) before entering a door on the island (but there's another door behind that that requires you to activate a switch located underwater before proceeding). Upon booting up BREATHE, you'll be thrown into a settings menu (where it asks you if you're "ALRYTE" for some reason...) before being brought to the title screen, where the only way out is by pressing ESC, which then prompts you whether you want to quit. Pressing ESC again starts the game for real, by dropping you on the island. Once you're on the island, you can wander to your heart's content. You can swim, you can dive, you can frolic with the sharks without any danger, but there are two ways to die. These methods include swimming out of bounds (resulting in immediate death) and running out of oxygen under water...though it is possible to have your head above water and to still drown...a weird bug. You'll also notice that there's a day-to-night transition, which is a nice touch...but during the night, you'll find the under water region to be far more illuminated than the night sky (which is nearly pitch black)...sadly, the time periods of day and night last a long time (meaning you'll probably be stuck in a pitch black night for a while before you can properly see again. My complaints include that the game does have a framerate issue while on the island and occasionally under water. This leads to a temporary awkward experience for the player. Other than that, I'd say that it would be nice to go from the title screen to the game directly, rather than having to enter an exit prompt to being. It would also be nice to start at the title screen instead of being greeted by the settings menu. Given how short this game is, there's very little replay value, meaning you'll most likely uninstall after 1-2 playthroughs. So...how long is BREATHE? Without knowing where the skulls are, about 30 minutes. Fortunately, I took screenshots of the skull locations and the switch location so a speedrun will take about 5-10 minutes of your time. If you want to casually swim, dive to open up chests, swim with sharks without any danger (except drowning), or to wander a few islands in an attempt to relax, then this game is for you. Recommended for someone looking for a casual game to enjoy. 6/10 A casual island experience for casual gamers.
This is not a game, just a asset demo.
