Now i know that there team is VERY SMALL and this is their first outing but sometimes you gotta accept the truth. I hate to do this, and i hope it doesn't go off onto a tangent, but here it is: The game's concept is amazing. Having indie characters duke it out against each other within a roster that boasts quite a few fan favourites (whilst lacking others) makes this a wonderful thing. They look great, sound great but unfortunately do not play great. EVER. Combat is boring, repetitive and feels like a chore to do instead of something that's meant to be fun within a fighting game. Not sure if it's the lack off combos, moves or the overall slow feel of it but the combat is a road less travelled and to make a fighting game you gotta have great combat, but that's not here. Graphically wise it is below average. In a fighting game it doesn't matter about the graphics because that not what you play for, but here when nothing else connects the world feels empty with the lack of emphasis on the background. At least the music is always nice to hear, but in a fighting game that doesn't help either. Multiplayer. I bought the game knowing that multiplayer wouldn't exist anytime soon which didn't bother me as the game itself looked fun to play. As time went on and lack of interesting modes were present the non existent multiplayer dawned upon me shouting; this game really needs competition against others. Without having that on the fly really makes this game a shallow one especially considering that there are no difficulty settings for the AI either is really strange. This feels like paid for prototype rather then anything else. Even paying £13 something for this didn't qualify and quite frankly you'd be better off spending it elsewhere. A fighting game that lacks every fighting game needed aspects? Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear
After a few post-release patches, Bounty Battle is now playing smoothly. It aims for Smash Bros' simplicity: normal attacks are varied by holding a direction with a button press, special attacks function the same way, and that's it. No combos, no counters, and no secret special moves. The problem is the game couldn't stop itself there. The additional systems are all certainly well-meaning: an energy cost for special attacks to encourage mixing in normal ones, spamming punishments to discourage button mashers, and a bounty system to keep the pressure on whoever is doing the best. Sadly the latter, which the game takes its name from, makes the best case for why these extra systems are superfluous. First, this is not really a platform fighter. That means there's not a whole lot of chances to go after or ignore any particular opponent. Even if there were, the only thing I used bounty points on during a full playthrough of the game's tournament mode was summoning a minion which barely dented a match's total points. Some character's minions attack, others buff their fighter, and others still debuff opponents. This variety adds to each character's uniqueness and they sound useful, but they also ignore attacks and act at seemly random intervals. This creates a perfect storm of frustration where the player that summoned them can't count on them and other players can't plan around them effectively. All that said, the only real problem I had with Bounty Battle was confused expectations. Because, quite frankly, I enjoyed all my time playing it once I got used to what it ended up being. With its claustrophobic stage design and the hordes of opponents that get tossed at you during most tournament levels, this game makes a better Beat 'em Up than it does a Fighting game. And that's great considering how the lack of online matchmaking means you'll most likely be playing this one alone.
I was initially very excited about this game due to its interesting and varied cast of characters that were presented in trailers and promotional materials. Loading up and playing the game on release day was extremely disappointing in both gameplay and visuals. Paired with lackluster multiplayer options, Bounty Battle on release was a complete and utter failure. Regardless of such problems, I held onto the game hoping that the devs would patch and fix Bounty Battle into a game they could be proud of. The last patch as of this review was October 9, 2020. They've abandoned an amazing concept and cast of characters and just ran with our money. Waste of time, money, and hype on a scam. Don't buy.
I've put almost 10 hours into the game which I feel is enough to write a review fairly. So first off yes there is a lot of issues that need to be addressed (the discussions says it all) But! that doesn't mean the game isn't fun. I was able to look the other way with all the issues and actually enjoy the game fully and I have to say it's actually good! A lot of people may not agree with me but i'm not here to argue i'm here to say that this game does have a lot of potential and even though it got released with high expectations for a lot of gamer's and was not delivered at launch does not mean you should look the other away and ignore this game. I realize that the developers are a small crew and that it will take time to address all the known issues but for the mean time I support this game fully. I've enjoyed the content it has at the moment and I am happy I purchased this on day one, this way I can see the game grow and evolve into something even more amazing then it already is! If your hesitant on purchasing the game definitely wish list it and keep an eye out for upcoming updates otherwise I recommend it. Be patient as in time the game will slowly become what everyone wanted.
I would recomend it for people who enjoy indie titles and games that look good. I want to see this game do well and I am sure it well. Besides, it might not be a great game right now, but this was the first project of these devs. Im sure they would wanna try and make their first game as fun as they can. But I would give this a solid 6/10. Its got a lot of potential though and I support it. Even if right now its not the greatest game ever.
I was really excited when I first found out about this game. The trailer looked great, even a few gameplay videos looked exciting. I could immediately tell things weren't what I was hoping. The entire game is clunky, even navigating the menu was difficult. I'm not the brightest bulb, but come on. Controls are tough, tutorial didn't help much, lots of things are left unexplained. Not much to do in the game, especially since there's no online multiplayer feature yet. Animations and movement was very floaty. Minions don't help. Only "proper" way to win fights is to spam attacks. The entire game feels like it should've been just released as its first version of Early Access. It was a great idea, but had awful execution.
No online, Weird hitboxes and hit reg, Skins that you won't care to ever use and boring overall content. Good idea for the indie heroes but it needs tremendous work to justify its existence.
i do NOT recommend even trying this game, it's clunky and limited, if you want an indie fighter, buy rivals of aether and find some mods. This game is bad
I wanted to like this game, the concept is so cool, but i can't stomach the jank, clunk, and clutter of this game. please, do yourself a favor, avoid this game at all costs.
