Its an interesting idea, a shame its currently feeling like an unfinished game. You cant save the game before choices, and after less then a hour i have learned i cant load my save files. As far as the game goes, it is an interesting story, but the choices seems to random, only a couple real choices. Its pretty clear this is rookie attempt at a VN game, for its price its defintly worth checking out as i would not call it bad. But it defintly need some patching before i would call it good.I hope to change my review to positive after a update or two.
Quite a silly little game and, by silly I mean "We know each other for two days now and we're stuck in a cave during rain so let's have sex, because I love you!" type of silliness, and, by little I mean that I've completed it first time in 19 minutes, while reading everything. Yet this game has it's charm, it's fully voiced, which was quite the surprise for me and it is quite funny too. So, especially considering price, I'd say that it's worth a look at least.

(Was gifted this courtesy of the user Wandering Hero, whom I've known for over a decade. Thanks!)
Why does a heart need a border? Will we have immigrants bleeding out of it?!
As you may have guessed, Border of her Heart is a visual novel and a short one at that. It blends in an element of Papers, Please, but without the bureaucrat element of manually checking papers. Instead, you have to rely on your gut based on the face of who you talk to and their word. It's kind of neat to see that your interactions have consequences and there are various aspects that happen based on your choices. Though the developer has though of most choice outcomes, he hasn't thought of all choice outcomes and some outcomes can lead to bugs like warping back in time and running into days without visitors leading you to get fired because you didn't let anyone through. The cast is of mostly likable characters and approximately 80-90% of the visual novel is voiced. Voice actors seem mostly amateur-ish, but for the most part, they get the point across. I do wish the voice actors inflected a bit more and that the quality of the mics were better (mostly noticeable on the "S" consonants), but I'm not saying I could do much better given the quality of my own equipment. Characters range from a captain, a monk on a pilgrimage, likeable guy, to a prodigy loli, to a kinky priestess, to a busty British archer, to an elegant (yet hot) elf...though there are a few more roles, but they are either minor or spoilers, so they are omitted from this review for this reason. Some characters are simply more likable than others. The background quality is good and the portrait quality is great...though the talking animation does feel a little off. There are some typos here and there, but nothing too major. The writing itself is where Tuomo shines as this is his first Visual Novel, though I do understand that there were problems with the software used to make this programs, so I can see how it was a learning experience. Although the writing isn't of legendary quality that you would expect from something like To The Moon, you will find yourself charmed by this little game. So, do I recommend Border of her Heart? Well, if you're looking for a game of superior writing or something with some deep story with dramatic elements, you won't find that here. However, if you're a busy person who has a lot going on, then you should probably pick this game up. Other critics have used the word "charming" to refer to this game and I agree with them in that sentiment. It's a nice little game and the writing seems fun in some areas (though not all). Although it is cliche, you may end up enjoying a cheesy little game like this to pass a little time. $1 is a fair price to pay and each playthrough takes about 20 minutes. Reason I have 3 hours clocked in is because I tested all possible outcomes to see everything I could see. 6.5/10 May not be the border of my heart, but it was still a nice treat.
A very amateurish visual novel, whose only claim to fame will be voice acting (not very good VA, but VA nonetheless). I've completed the game three different ways in 37 minutes, that should really tell you all you need to know.
"Border of her Heart" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book was slapped together with the godawfully bad Visual Novel Maker VN/E-Book construction kit, so just like no professional writing took place here, no professional game development took place either, it's just a product of filling out templates in the construction kit. This E-book features Choose-Your-Own-Adventure elements where you make some decisions that don't do anything to change the fact this is just an E-Book. Nobody finished reading a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book and said "Boy, what a great game I just played!". Because E-books aren't games. And neither is this. This is a dating/romance themed E-book where you decide which of various anime character generated looking, badly devised anime figures you want to date in this fantasy themed high school anime fan club dropout fanfiction. It really is garbage. If you want to read bad fanfictions, there's websites for that, you can read them for free. So why on earth would anyone pay money to read one on Steam, which is for games, and not crap amateur fanfictions? Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. The poor quality of this E-Book is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak reader number was only 6 readers. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only reader activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality E-Book is to be expected. "Border of her Heart" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
Full review at: https://thegamehoard.com/2020/02/14/border-of-her-heart-pc/ Border of Her Heart’s short length likely allowed it to have the nice touch of fully voiced characters, but this length provides almost no other benefit to the game. The relationships feel shallow despite being the main reason to play the game and the characters have no chance to really establish themselves beyond the basics. Replaying the game is hampered by the many long black screens you’ll have to sit through to do so, and your reward are a few different scenes as most other events play out identically. The plague plot is interesting one time through but is a required part of every path, and despite the decision making of your border patrol job being this game’s unique hook, it ends up feeling like your options are too straightforward and easy to lend any intrigue or subtlety to who you let in or turn away. Border of Her Heart rushes through its plot and romances with the same speed a game like Lovely Heroines does, but that game at least had the justification of trying to get you to its adult content. Border of Her Heart is a basic visual novel that hopes cute art and the nice touch of a person reading the romantic lines to you will make up for the lack of substance. The border patrol could have been an interesting angle if made more important or if it had more time to grow, but the game keeps its design fairly utilitarian, characters all having a role to play and doing very little to stand out otherwise. Characters have only as much depth as is necessary for them to be more than characterless images, but they can at least be cute or funny at times. Awkward line readings and typos in text boxes are easily brushed aside for a game that can be a breezy, almost inoffensive first playthrough… if not for more present problems like the long periods of an empty black screen, and with the path of events fairly rigid outside of far too few elements, these two aspects combine into a game that makes replaying to see the other shallow relationship plots unfold less exciting when they should have been more easily experienced.
