Boots Quest DX

Boots Quest DX does something that a lot of good games do: it operates on no logic other than its own. It starts out with pleasant music and charming writing and will make you chuckle, or at the very least smile. And slowly, as you uncover more of its world, you'll piece together how it works. It's a great feeling, and Boots Quest DX elicits it with a surprising sense of ease. The puzzles here are reminiscent of point and click games, and the moon logic they often operate on. Especially considering that there's a few actions you can take that various NPCs each have their own unique response to. That's not to say that they feel illogical or unfair to solve. Things just click in place, without feeling too easy or too challenging, or like you're ever truly solving a puzzle. You're just exploring this little world and gaining more understanding of it as you go. Another aspect I liked was that the game feels like it has something to say. But unlike a lot of other games, it's content to say it quietly. It doesn't try to hit you over the head with it. Maybe you already were aware of it, and just needed a little reminder? To sum this up - it's a really lovely little thing. If you enjoy exploring game worlds, discovering how they work, and want something chill and amusing to play, don't hesitate to boot up Boots Quest DX! (I had to)

Boots Quest DX is a lovely adventure game for the stressed-out businessman in all of us who remembers when he used to have dreams & purpose. There is some challenge but little peril, much like most days. You're free to wander, discover, sleep, engage in business dealings, chat with the locals, judge what people keep on their bookshelves, and listen to records. Do what you do as just a little guy while famed lo-fi four-track stars Dragon Warrior provide the earworms.

An incredible journey, reminds me of old newgrounds flash adventure games I would play when I was a kid. Killer soundtrack and an immaculate vibe, pls buy

Boots Quest DX is a very mixed sort of game for me. On one hand it's a cute, charming, alternative non-violent style of adventure game that's exactly what it says on the tin: wandering the world for the best pair of boots. The gameplay loop is simple yet fun, and the upgrades you'll encounter make the game even more enjoyable as you become more powerful doing favours for other characters! But on the other hand, it feels a little too accurate to the games of old at times, leaving objectives and puzzles a little cryptic. It would have been a lot better for a quest menu or button press to remind you of your objective rather than having to rely on an NPC (who in some cases you don't always have access to). I really love the art style, it really takes me back to the squigglevision era of animation, and is wonderfully atmospheric depending on location.

Boots Quest DX is full of witty caricatures of classic RPG tropes, the soundtrack is excellent and makes exploring each new room and area interesting. Overall a very wholesome and satisfying short adventure game, it's well worth a playthrough.

One of my favorite indie game experiences of recent years. More games need to be about being a little guy having a chill walkabout. Really great music as well.

love love love love love love this game this is one of the ones you finish and wish you could forget so you can start it over and be captivated and surprised (repeatedly) all over again sequel pls!!!!!

Cute, charming, immediately drank too much coffee and nearly sprinted out of existence. Had a lot of fun collecting hats and chuckling at the gently humorous writing. The ending was oddly touching as well. A fun little adventure!
