Reviews
This game could be good but it's not right now. They need to change some things The only way to get a customer to buy is to have my prices so low that I lose money. All the customers that leave reviews are negative. And the reviews are not realistic. I have the genres correct but keep getting reviews that say it's chaos to find a book? I have lowered my prices to the point of not making any money and the reviews claim my prices need to be lower or they won't return? The game starts you out with a limited amount of money so you can't buy a whole lot which is understandable but then you get reviews that say that I need a better choice of books? The game points out that the reviews will make a difference in your success so I feel like they should make them reflect what you have done with your store. Apparently later in the game you can purchase or obtain special magic books for yourself but they don't do anything for you. They don't give you special abilities or anything so I guess you just collect them? Which I think is pointless. In my opinion this game needs some adjustments. Otherwise it just makes you want to quit. Which I did after a few hours and really nothing good was happening with my store. lol

I do really like this game. The reviews on this game so far are unfair, so I will be really honest. I will admit, it's a bit of a learning curve but if you read the tutorials in the Esc menu, it is all explained there. When you first load in you are in an apartment that you don't do much with at the beginning of the game (might be something there later on?). To get to the store, when you leave your apartment, turn left twice and right once, it has a glowing pink pillar of light in front of it. To ACTUALLY get customers you NEED to buy a better sign at the start, without it you might get like 1 or 2 a day. You can checkout on your computer so you don't need the self checkout at the start. Customers can get angry if they wait too long to checkout, leave in an angry huff, and steal the books. Which I find hilarious. Also customers can occasionally lie on reviews, which I love so much XD. If you read the tutorials it tells you not to price books over 150% markup , (it's capped with 150% markup being max price anyway). At the start, the books cost 50 for a box of 20 books, so your cost per book is ONLY 2.50! You do have to that math on your own, I just made a spreadsheet to do it for me XD. The books vary in price as you level up and sell for more later on. (If you price them at 150% markup, they will still sell, you just won't be as busy and your star rating will go down over time.) I do 75% markup and I can buy 1-3 new boxes of books every in game day (you could definitely go higher). The bookshelves and furniture do have set places they go cause he said this is his first game and it avoids pathing issues. I haven't unlocked the cool magic yet but I do like it so far. Honestly, so much affects how busy you are with customers, your prices, your star rating, visibility (signage), advertising (it helps so much), cleanliness, diversity of your books. It's really well thought out. I've restarted 3 times and my 1st playthrough was slow because I hadn't read the tutorials. My 3rd one was TOO BUSY because i had 4.2 star store, advertised, best sign, etc, and I stayed busy. So you can EASILY set the pace you want for this game. It DOES feel like a slow start but once I knew what to do and restarted, it went SO MUCH FASTER. So just like most simulators you need to get good at running the store. I've found a few strategies that work so far. He added a light for the the delivery area! I think the only thing is, I wish that I had enough money to buy all the books that I have unlocked. At first, that made it feel like progression was scaled weird... BUT I realized that Bookstores DON'T carry every book available, and that it may be intentional that you have to choose what you carry, especially at first.
GAME STORE PAGE IS MISLEADING AS INGAME ITS LOCKED TO SIX DOLLARS AND TWENTYFIVE CENTS ALL BOOKS ITS NOT WORTH BUYING THE GAME THE CUSTOMERS DONT BUY YOUR BOOKS THEY WALK IN AND STRAIGHT OUT NO BOOKSALES AT ALL THE GAMES BROKEN ITS ALSO A GRIND TO MAKE MONEY TO REPLACE YOUR BOOKS NOT WORTH PLAYING YOU GET 1500 AT THE START AND THEN YOU BUY YOUR CASH REGISTER FOR 1000 AND THEN YOU HAVE 500 TO BOOKCASE AT 150 DOLLARS THEN MAGIC CABINET AT 320 DOLLARS BUY BOOKS X20 AT 50 DOLLARS EACH & SELLS AT 6.25 LET ALONE THE STORAGE FOR EXTRA STOCK SHELVES HOW IS THIS AFFORDABLE ????????? SPEND YOUR MONEY ON BOOKSHOP SIMULATOR BETTER QUALITY AND VALUE AT LEAST YOU GET RICH AND HAVE FUN
this is a grinding game only $6.25 a book is laugh and your not making enough money to get any damn books and the customers are whiny about everything this game is crap and not worth it and your always in the minus dollars your better off buying this game Bookshop Simulator is more better and fun you get things you need at the start for free when you start the store up give the customers deeper pocket and allow us to put real prices on the books as everything is overpriced to play the game the way you have it at the moment is your in the minus as you take a loan then the repayments are making you bankrupt and it not my fault your game is crap does the truth hurt little buddyboys
Update to original review after playing a few more hours: Still mixed feelings on this one. The game has potential but right now it's rough going/very slow to start. While things have improved somewhat, sales are still quite slow. Significant periods (despite having 7 genres now, priced between 5.5-6.25, outside signage which I've had since day one anyway, and spruced up decor) where I get no customers at all or no customers that actually purchase a book. I'm making anywhere from 155-175/day with no advertising and only marginally more with advertising- which is barely enough to cover advertising but not enough to purchase advertising + 1 box of books. MOre often than not, I just don't purchase advertising. I've unlocked higher tiers of books that sell for more but can't really afford to purchase much of them as they cost 90-110 per box. I'd like to purchase more decor, furniture, upgrades but revenue is slow going. Still have the trash respawn bug upon exiting the game/relaunching. Also new potential bugs discovered: Racks in warehouse - once you retrieve a box to replenish supply, you can no longer replace the box of that specific book, or any book, in the spot from the rack you retrieved it. It becomes like 'dead' space that can no longer be used - which effectively means it will get to a point where you can't use that rack at all as it's all dead space. The first rack I purchased has about 50% free space left as the rest is unusable at this point. Also, on the advertising itself - I've purchased advertising twice now between the hours of 0000 - 0300 , and the money is spent but the 'Already activated' indication on the advertising doesn't apply. I can't tell whether it's active or not. If it's not, then it's a waste of the little money I earn. Activating it after 0600 works OK though. All in all, if you're going to play this - best to play it accepting there's a few bugs currently (but the developer is working on them) and best to accept that it's going to be very, very slow going to start - I'd play this on one monitor and keep your second monitor on (if you have a second) watching something or, heck, even playing another game while you wait in this one. As it stands now, and so far in this game, you'll have plenty of free time to engage with something else while you wait for things to pick up in this game.
I do not recommend this game, as affordable of a gamble as it might be. I saw the mixed reviews, the decent trailer, and the low price and thought I'd give it a shot. If it didn't work well, it was only a few bucks. It doesn't work...at all. It will load up the main menu, but when trying to start a new game, it crashes, fatal error message and all. I retried a few times, thinking it was something about the graphics vs. my computer, but no, it seems to be an issue with the game itself.
I really really want to love this game. I have read a big chunk of reviews prior to this and have seen the big negatives and the positives. I do think that a vast chunk of the negatives didnt read the tutorials correctly or at all because 90% of what was complained about was explained in the tutorials. Now i want to love this game. i play many games of this nature so was excited to stumble across this one. i played the demo and got sucked in, purchased the game and have played for many hours this afternoon. It started off great and dandy. i like the mechanics of the game, the freedom to play around and the feeling of actually running a store. what has got me is, i reached store level 15, purchased an advertisement for $200 (which is not easy to get) and from then the game has glitched. i have recieved not a single customer in my store, they walk past, stop then turn around, walk back past the door the opposite way and just keep walking. I am still being charged for the loan i got to help out regardless of the fact that everything else has glitched so now i am falling into debt with no way to re-enable customer interactions. Store has 4.6 star rating and everything is dandy otherwise. my only other small peeve is how incredibly slow burning it is. i have found i have had a lot of idle moments where i wind up scrolling on my phone while i inevitably wait for customers to browse and purchase books so i can do the next very small upgrade/pruchase for the store. besides these 2 things, i find the game enjoyable, relaxing and entertaining for the most part. ps. would love a notepad or something so i dont need to memorise which books need re-ordering a tally at the end of each day and what books/genres sold would also be super helpful i have also seen the Dev get very defensive in the reviews, so to be clear, this is not an attack, but rather my experience with the game after an evening of playing and an hour of no customers with countless restarts of the game. I am also unable to start a new game so i am truly stuck in limbo with a glitched out game
Full of AI slop and nothing like the first video I saw.
Игра интересна своей задумкой, много недороботок, но все же стоит внимания, а если создатели ее не забросят и продолжат развивать то проект будет успешным
I have only played for a few hours but already I like this game. I definitely should have read the tutorial stuff first because I spent 5 minutes looking around the apartment for a cash register like a weirdo. Once I found the store I saw so much potential. I like the early game layout and am excited to see how the store grows. I love not having to slave over a cash register. The good reviews are encouraging (haven't had a bad review yet). Mostly about the store cleanliness. I bought a trash bin right off the mark because I'm lazy and don't want to clean... I also love not having to decide where to place the furniture. I'm guessing that will be updated one day but for now I'm all for it. The books are stunning. I can't wait to afford the more expensive ones. The only thing I would like to be able to do is charge a bit more. But all good. People will find it slow and grinding, however I am happy with that for a change. It really depends on what you are looking for. The other simulator games I'm playing atm when I get home from work are fun but stressful. Do I want that stress when I get home from work? Not really.... This one allows me to have fun slowly building a business, but also unwind a bit. Good job.
