I give this game a thumbs up simply because it does what it sets out to do. It’s a rogue-like game. It accomplished it’s mission. But it’s still very hard for me to recommend it because it doesn’t really do anything special or new. The story is very bland, unoriginal, uncreative and boring as well as doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s all kinda vague and slapped on just to give you a reason to play which irritates me. The game itself is fun enough I suppose. It does its job like I mentioned earlier. But yeah, it’s just not something super spectacular or amazing. It’s just average. It’s not broken. It’s not SUPER buggy but it does have a few. And I love the artistic design. The quality is average, but I love those neon lights and the flashing colors and effects. The majority of the games graphics are average but the spells are superb. And I love the variety of enemies and the types. It’s at an affordable price, and overall it’s not bad. It’s just not that good either. For rogue-like junkies looking for another to sink your teeth into you’ve found a winner here cuz in my opinion it’s not broken, it’s worth its asking price. So that means you’re not getting screwed out of your money. But for everyone else, perhaps wait until it gets more content, more production value pumped into it, and just more time to cook. If you’d like a more in-depth look at the game then feel free to check out the review on my YouTube Channel (link below). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WscQ1c4xSA8 Otherwise, thanks so much for reading and I hope I managed to help some of you out there spend your money wisely.
Game plays very intuitive. If you have played games like Neoverse or Slay the Spire you're good to go. Anathema takes a bit to understand but you get used to it fairly quick. Enemy design is pretty cool and the effects are well made. Build variety comes as you level up/unlock certain EXP Stages. Some transitions are a bit slow but considering this is a day 2 review that might be a thing of the past by the time you read the review. Dev contact via Discord was great. Found a Day 1 Bug which was gamebreaking. Dev had it fixed in 20min and even took care of my personal issue with the bug (corrupted save file). Overall a great game if you're into Deckbuilding.
The game is solid, especially coming out of Slay the Spire as my intro to the genre. It feels good to play, there is a lot of variety in the different elements. I picked up the water deck and the game suddenly felt a lot more strategic, compared to the constant gas of the fire element. Though I've only played with the first character available, her mechanics are interesting to play around. There seems to be at least three or so different mechanics that you can build a deck around. And those mechanics interact differently with the element of your choice. So there's a ton of replayability baked into it already. The game can definitely be a challenge if you don't consider your moves carefully. One bad fight can have you on the back foot for most of an act. So it definitely doesn't feel like a cakewalk. The art style is very pretty and the audio is solid. I've put in 8 hours so far and won two -- out of five -- runs. The first run was when a bug occurred, following the final -- currently available -- boss fight. While the bug was pretty rough, it was fixed within almost an hour of being discovered. It's very clearly an early access game. One of the characters isn't finished and some of the levels are still locked, and there are a few bugs that have already shown up. The game can be a little slow on rolling your encounter rewards as well. And my pc is no slouch. That being said, I've put in 8 hours so far and won two -- out of five -- runs. Both runs were about 2-3 hours long. The first run was when a bug occurred, following the final -- currently available -- boss fight. While the bug was pretty rough, it was fixed within almost an hour of being discovered. For the asking price, I'd definitely recommend giving the game a go. If you're a fan of Slay the Spire, or just curious about the genre, you'll find a lot of fun here. The developers is on the ball with fixes, especially if you get to them in the discord. The game feels full of passion and I cannot wait to see how it gets better as time goes on. Definitely going to be putting in many more hours.
Graphics wise alone, this game has somethign unique going on. The way every landscape is so beautifull and a nice flow made me want to jump into a battle every time! Though it might always be a smart idea lol Gameplay wise, having a mana system and initiatives is interesting. Makes the way you pick what kind of cards you pick everytime a calculated decision. Also the elements that you pick as your start and the element you get get on the next floor can wildly different. I would say any deck builder roguelike who wants some beautifull graphics would like this game.
BlueCloud Summit is a deckbuilding roguelike game with inspiration from Slay the Spire where you manage two decks: a normal deck and a magic deck. They interact with each other, but can also work on their own to defeat your enemies while you climb the summit. The addition of the magic deck adds a lot more to the strategy of the game and how you build around each character that each have complex mechanics and a variety of ways to make them successful or even insanely strong. Currently in early access, but still a great buy. Pros: - As a roguelike, does have a decent amount of replayability and effects that allow things to not be similar previous runs, unless you force it - The game offers a nice challenge for seasoned deckbuilder players - Cool character and enemy design - Good sound and great music to go along with it Cons: - Still has some bugs and UI issues since its early access, but the developer is working hard on fixing them - For beginners not used to roguelike deckbuilders, this game will be difficult and has a steep learning curve as you play Personal (kinda picky and not super important) Gripes: - None while in early access, thus far
This is a very fun game developed by one person. Graphics are decent. Card draw mechanics are great. Enough variety between the characters for multiple styles. Multiple magic decks and skills to choose from. Creator is pretty responsive on his discord as well. Worth the price of a movie ticket. The only con I have so far is that it is a bit unoptimized. Might be my fault as I am running older computer with a 1080ti.
Devoted DEV, listens to discord feedback. Current state of the is game bug fixes and balancing and early access. Similar to slay the spire with exp system that makes the game easier between runs. A run currently takes about 3 hours to complete with some different builds that are viable. Rated thumbs up as it can grow into a solid indie game.
As of right now, the game gives me nothing to be too entertained about. It explains some mechanics, but doesn't show tooltips, such as what "Alchemy" is. You also don't get an "are you sure" option in stores, so trying to view items by clicking just buys them in a menu that makes the background hazy, where your "money" is shown, which was already difficult to tell what it was. The characters are all locked, and you're required to play one character to then get the other characters, which says how, but unlocking other relics or elements is not explained. As of right now, it's too unpolished to be enjoyable. It seems interesting as a concept, but there's so much going on, without much help, it's acting more as a deterrent than anything.
I like it so far so my review is positive
So far the game has been fun, I like the ideas behind multiple different magic types and not locking you into just one. It has some fun unique card styles and game play loop is more like a roguelite than a roguelike, overall enjoyable so far, will change when I play more
