Cute little F2P metroidvania. Very short, very straightfoward, but nevertheless charming in its execution. It's a school project and that is shown both in the small scale and unpolished game design, but for the sort of person looking for niche little indie games it's worth the time to hit some buttons.
An very short metroidvania made by (what I assume to be) a couple of college kids. Looks great for what it is and I'd play a much longer full version of the game. My only notes are: add an ability to attack in the air and maybe up the difficulty a bit. Again, has some very well done pixel graphics and is worth a play if you have 20 minutes

Doesn't work on steam deck, can't rebind controls on PC, default bindings are bizarre, who the hell uses RB for attacking? No. Also, this tries to connect to the internet for no reason.
So this is a student project they had to finish for a semester (which you find out when the credits roll), so I try to be somewhat kind here. This is a 2D action-adventure kinda thing where you mostly go right, open treasure chests, get loot, equip helmets, boots, and other trinkets, kill various monsters to eventually reach the final boss monster, and kill it. In theory, it’s one big connected world, but there’s zero reason to go back to earlier screens once you’ve collected the treasure, so they could have done this as a level-based game and not lost anything. Some reviews call this a metroidvania, which is just wrong. The only abilities you get are for killing enemies, and you can do without them, and there’s no need to backtrack anywhere. It's clearly inspired by either directly Soulslike games or their 2D-variants; you have a stamina meter, and your sword swing is somewhat clunky and awkward. So when you engage enemies, you really have to commit. That said, after you collect some items or enough money to buy all the stuff from the two shops in the game, you're overpowered for almost everything the game throws at you. Even the two bosses, like all their underlings, can be beaten by spamming the attack button. There's a bit of jank here, and the game isn't very good at explaining what to do or how you do things, but once you've figured that out on your own, it's mostly smooth sailing. I beat the game in 35 minutes, and I only died once, because I purposefully jumped down a chasm to see what would happen. So, while inspired by soulslike games, it's not exactly that difficulty lane. Though given some of the jank, the game would have likely been far more annoying. I do like the visuals here. They aren't great pixel art, but coherent and solid mid-tier or something like it. And while the gameplay isn't exactly good or anything, I did enjoy exploring the couple of rooms the game has to offer and killing the different enemy types. Not sure if this is enough to recommend it, it's not doing exactly anything original (there are dozens of 2D souls-like games on Steam, and most of them are way better than this). Also, for those who are into achievements, none of the achievements here popped up, so be aware that those are bugged.
This is a nice little game, the combat can be a little difficult to get used to. I was able to get past the forest boss, it mostly comes down to dash timing. This was covered as part of this week's episode of Free2Play Weekly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLydwTw2DJs
