A classic match 3 game. But this time you just have to click on the lines of the same shapes instead of moving them.
Warning: Asset Flip! Blast Ensemble is an asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated someone else's example/template/tutorial game, changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and submitted it to Valve as if it was their own game.
The "developer" took a bunch of someone else's game assets (in this case, "Toy Box Blast!" game source code, a match 3 mobile app asset pack) and is trying to get YOUR money for someone else's work. DIG Games have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Those technical issues put this game beneath what is expected from a contemporary, professionally developed PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. This kind of asset flipping isn't harmless. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made games from ethical developers. It makes it harder for genuine indie developers, who put hard work into trying to make real games, to find an audience for their products. It gives indie developers a bad name. Let's talk about price and what this asset flip is actually worth. Is this significantly better than any of the 140,000+ genuinely made games on Steam? Of course not! Blast Ensemble has the ridiculous, laughable price of $17 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. For comparison, the $17 asking price for this game could get you games like "Satisfactory", "New World" or "Monster Hunter Rise". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. Because this is just a fake game/cash grab scam, and due to the sheer unethical nature of the developer, you should avoid this completely. Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from DIG Games.

Blast Ensemble is a casual puzzle experience that takes a familiar foundation and adjusts it just enough to feel slightly different without straying too far from what players already know. Instead of relying on the traditional swapping mechanics seen in many match-based games, it asks players to identify and select groups of matching shapes directly, creating a more immediate and fluid interaction with the board. This small change gives the gameplay a different rhythm, encouraging players to focus on pattern recognition and efficient clearing rather than planning multi-step swaps. The core loop is easy to understand and quickly becomes intuitive. Each level presents a grid filled with colorful shapes, along with specific objectives that must be completed within a limited number of moves. The simplicity of this setup makes the game highly accessible, allowing players to jump in without needing extensive explanation. As you progress, the introduction of special tools and power-ups adds moments of excitement, particularly when they are used to clear large sections of the board or trigger satisfying chain reactions. These elements provide short bursts of strategic thinking, even if they do not significantly alter the overall structure of the gameplay. Difficulty increases gradually as levels become more restrictive and layouts more complex. Players are required to think more carefully about each move, balancing efficiency with the need to meet specific goals. This progression helps maintain engagement in the early and mid stages, as the game continues to present new configurations that challenge your ability to identify optimal solutions. However, the way difficulty is implemented relies heavily on tighter constraints rather than introducing new mechanics. As a result, later levels often feel like more demanding versions of earlier ones, rather than offering genuinely new experiences. Visually, the game adopts a bright and cheerful style that fits well within the casual puzzle genre. The shapes are distinct and easy to read, and the overall presentation is clean and approachable. There is a light, playful tone to the design, with simple animations and effects that reinforce the game’s relaxed nature. While the aesthetic is pleasant, it does not stand out in a meaningful way, as it follows conventions commonly seen in similar titles. The interface is straightforward and functional, ensuring that players can focus entirely on solving puzzles without unnecessary distractions. One of the more noticeable aspects of the game is its reliance on repetition. While the initial variation in levels keeps things interesting, the core mechanic does not evolve in a way that introduces new layers of depth. Over time, players may find themselves relying on the same strategies and patterns, which can make the experience feel predictable. The absence of additional modes or significant progression systems further limits its ability to sustain long-term interest, as there are few incentives to continue playing once the main set of levels has been completed. Despite these limitations, the game succeeds in delivering a straightforward and enjoyable puzzle experience. Its simplicity is both a strength and a weakness, making it easy to pick up and play while also restricting how much it can grow. It works particularly well in short sessions, where the lack of complexity feels refreshing rather than limiting. For players looking for a relaxed and low-pressure activity, it provides a steady stream of challenges that are easy to engage with. In the end, Blast Ensemble is a competent and accessible puzzle game that offers a slight variation on a familiar formula. It delivers satisfying moments through its core mechanics and provides enough content to keep players occupied for a time, but it does not push beyond its basic concept. The lack of innovation and depth prevents it from standing out, leaving it as a modest but functional entry in the genre. It is best suited for those who enjoy casual puzzle games and are content with a simple, repetitive experience that can be enjoyed in small doses. Rating: 6/10
