Bitsy is a 3D stealth puzzle game where you play as a mechanized spider completing contracts in a futuristic world. Climb walls, leap and web sling around tough obstacles, and above all: avoid detection.

First actual review: Although I've only played for about 30 minutes (and i plan to review again at a later time) A few things I've noticed: the spider is the only fully modeled thing aside from the map itself, and the other models look unpolished. The camera is also a tad bit clunky and can be disorienting when going around smaller objects like tables. Also the missions can be unclear and confusing like the "Find the map room" objective. However all of the negatives aside: haha spidey dance . Also the game has an interesting concept, but not much else aside from that. But, remember it is just a free game.

3/10 A stealth/walking game where you control a spider and crawl on walls and ceilings. Good: - a unique concept of crawling on surfaces of 3D objects. Your legs stick to the surfaces, so you don't fall down unless you press Space - for a student project is actually has quite polished 2D UI art - the in-game music tracks are quite nice - free So-so: - there is no jump. This feels rather limiting. Also, when you want to just jump off something, like when you are on a table and want to just jump down on the floor, sometimes Space seems to work but sometimes you crawl on the underside of the table - there is no proper onboarding. In the first level you get a wall of text describing all the abilities - which you instantly forget. And there is no way to look up those abilities again. The icons at the bottom of the screen show the currently selected ability and the rest of the abilities but you can't see what they do or even which icon corresponds to which ability since there is no mouse-over (the mouse controls the camera rotations) Bad: - rotations lag. I'm not sure if that's a performance issue or was intended like that. Every time I move the mouse, the camera would move for a fraction of a second longer, slowing down gradually. So I guess it's intended. Also, the speed of rotations varies greatly. I tried tweaking the X camera sensitivity several times but it seems the speed doesn't exactly depend on it alone. When I crawl around, the rotations feels almost uncontrollable, like the spider is drunk. This makes the game unplayable. Simply removing camera inertia would likely make the controls better. But maybe also switching the view from 3rd person to 1st person, or making that an option. An interesting concept but doesn't go beyond a tech prototype despite the nice 2D art. Bad controls and clumsy onboarding make it unplayable. "Bitsy" is a student project from the Neumont College of Computer Science, and I'm not sure the students passed this time. The student project comes across as unpolished and unfinished... while the game mechanics seem promising, what you get here is more frustration and disappointment looking at all the unfinished/raw looking assets and environments than any enjoyable gaming experience. This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this didn't understand that. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
