A great twin-stick shooter metroidvania (I've played ~75). Lots of areas to explore and opportunities to use skills for backtracking. Great visuals and just a fun game. I did not explore them but also seems like LOTS of accessibility options for people who want an easier experience. That being said, I found this game to be on the easier side of the MV spectrum. I played this on a not great laptop and did turn down the graphics quality to help it run better. There was lag at some points, but apparently this is well known for this game.

My coworker is a cousin of one of the devs for this game and she held me at gunpoint to play this game. Emotional scarring aside, I'm glad she did. I love me a good metroid-vania and this one is fantastic AND has a really unique idea for the world the game takes place in. (By "world", I mean sick dog) I absolutely recommend this game to just about anyone!
Excelente jogo, Historia interessante e te prende ao jogo, colecionáveis legais e divertidos, divertidos, a exploração e muito fascinante, o visual dos mapas e das áreas são muito boas, super recomendo.
Overall, it's an alright metroidvania. Web-based engine, so expect frame-drops etc if you have second-monitor content. Note for completionists: I wouldn't recommend this game, as all achievements requires not using multiple game mechanics and playing on 1 hp the whole game. The Addict achievement was also super finnicky.
Fun, not too hard, twin stick shooter Metroidvania in the body of your virus infected puppy. More short reviews for hidden gems at my curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44819215-Lesser-Known-Hidden-Gems/
The games somewhat decent but does have a lot of flaws. Some of the good things are the game is of decent length. The boss fights are tough but fair and done well. You get abilities like double jump and deflect pretty early on. Also choosing to upgrade health or energy is an interesting choice. Theres also a good deal of upgrades to get and things to unlock, including multiple optional mini-bosses. The visuals are decent and theres enough enemy variety to keep things interesting. Then theres the negatives. People complain about bugs but I only had a boss fight bug on me and I had to restart it, but didn't notice much else. The game gives you all these objectives but basically ZERO direction, including the main quest. I spent over an hour with 2 doopers left just looking for where to go, and apparently I was supposed to go back to some random NPC i had talked to multiple times to trigger a boss fight that then let me go through this keycard door in a different area to trigger the next boss fight.......how TF should I know that as his icon on the map is an NPC and not a boss. This is annoying and horribly done. Also some areas theres a good deal of fast travels, and other areas theres 1 or 0, which is horribly done especially for all the backtracking. They give you this ability to teleport around to other rest areas before the FINAL boss of the game so its worthless. The shop is pretty lame, I bought a few things to upgrade myself but then theres basically nothing to buy. You can buy chips but since you only can ever use 1 I just used one of the starter ones because none of the others seemed better. The same goes for weapon mods, they all do significantly less damage than regular gun and are too gimmicky so seemed pointless. This means basically the only upgrade in the game was the health/energy and I used the basic gun and chip the whole game without any impetus to change which is lame and not how a MV should be. The controls can be annoying at times, trying to aim, move, jump, and shoot at all once on boss fights. The twin stick nature requires use of both sticks at all times but the MV movement requires fast responsive platforming as well both of which go at odds with one another. Theres two default control schemes but neither are perfect, the game almost needs to be controlled with a KBM but for movement its not ideal. The control scheme I used said it would keep the aimer in the direction I had it last but it only seemed to work like 20% of the time. Overall the game isn't bad and a different take on the MV genre with it being a twin stick shooter. Theres a lot to collect and upgrade, but the upgrades and items could be done better. Annoying controls, a few bugs, poor fast travel and lack of direction hamper it from a higher score. Still could be worth checking out. 7.5/10.
BioGun is a very large scope Metroidvania that looks like Hollow Knight but biology related at every turn. It has its own unique spin on the Metroidvania, adding fun mechanics and twists. There's a lot of experimentation with combat mechanics, fun cosmetics to unlock, and a variety of weapons to play around with. You get the fun platforming and combat feel of Hollow Knight, but without the intense and punishing difficulty. Death isn't the end and you don't really lose anything. There is a very...very large map. I'm only 7 hours in and I keep discovering more areas. I think I might have found the general shape of the whole map by now, and it's a lot bigger than I was expecting for something made by two people. Very impressive, and well done. The story seems intriguing, and I'm loving this mix between biology and anime in a 2D Metroidvania. The characters all seem to have different personalities, and pretty much everything ties into the main theme of the game. Nothing really seems out of place and the immersion is great. There are lots of comical moments and sometimes the characters even react to what you do outside of dialogue. I will say some of the story moments made me a little uncomfortable (
like when boogers are kissing each other
), but for the most part it has been fine so far (and I'm really sensitive to that kind of stuff). There are definitely some bugs in the game. The developers have tried squashing many of them but were starting to run into limitations of the game engine they are working in. There hasn't been anything terrible yet, and bugs aren't very common. Considering the size of this game and the incredibly small development team, I would say that's a welcome surprise. Overall, BioGun is a really enjoyable experience for a variety of gaming skill levels. It's a charming and thoughtful game that really ties the story and gameplay together well. I'm excited to see how the game continues from here. Give it a go and help this dog feel better while saving dogkind!
Edit: Ok I was a little fast to judge. After that particular section, I haven't encountered anything buggy like that. And not gonna lie, I'm really enjoying myself. There is a heavy Metroid vibes here that I absolutely love. And some inspiration by Hallow knight. The story and setting is kind of new and pretty cute. (well the fact that you're inside the body of a cute dog, with cute cells is very cute.) BUT if you have Trypophobia, stay the hell away from this one. It's hell for you. 😂😂 (my first review was pretty negative. Hope I don't change my mind again.)
