About
My body burned in the cold,
until I felt nothing.

I was back where I started…

Survive. Explore. Earn the townsfolks' respect.
Weather the harsh climate and earn your keep, learning what makes each person here tick. Hear out their stories, gain their trust, and survive together.
Discover what lies beneath the surface of Bilge Junction.
And whatever you do, don't let the fire go out.

Bilge Junction was initially developed over a span of 5 weeks for IndieCade's Climate Jam 2024. The premise was meant to express several experiences I personally had when returning to my hometown, as well as confront the destructive, extractive, colonial past and present of Alaska. Inspirations include ThreeStep, Pathologic, Chulip, and Paper Mario.

Welcome to a tiny town where everyone’s weird, the snow never stops, and something definitely isn’t right. You ran from your problems—congrats! Now you have new ones. Your main goal? Survive three days, keep the fire going, and try not to freeze to death while the locals drop cryptic hints like it's their job. The vibe? Think Twin Peaks meets “Oops, I moved to a haunted town”. I would panic over firewood and questionable neighbors again.
Several Bugs. Most of which are not a big deal. However, there is a bug that makes it so I can't get past day 3. I found out if I sleep in the big building night of Day 2 that I will get trapped in there for Day 3 and not able to leave to add wood to burn pit. Invisible force keeps me from leaving both exits; I believe it is the same snow that traps you in from the day before, but now it is invisible so you can't clear it. Tried sleeping in the small cabin on Day 2. Seemed like it was a work around but then when my Day 3 Started time was not going forward. Just added wood to the fire pit with no end in sight because it continually say 8 somethin in the morning. Tried loading the current day dozens of times. Tried resetting the save several times. Good luck to everyone else but I am done trying. My curiosity has been exhausted by the frustration of not being able to continue. Can't recommend until bugs are fixed.

"Bilge Junction" is a weird, narrative heavy (read: More e-book than game) survival "experience". What do you do in the game? Survive bad writing and bad game design for three days. The graphics aren't great. That's understandably be turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
