About
From the creator of Chicken Feet comes Below Nowhere, a first-person survival horror game about life, memories, second chances, and the Meat Man.
Trapped deep underground during humanity’s final war, you are pulled into a shifting reality built from memories that aren’t yours. Each place is different, yet they all share a tragic similarity: dried bloodshed.
You aren't alone. The Meat Man feasts on evil and death.
A trickster, the animalistic Meat Man likes to play with his food.
The Meat Man enjoys causing you pain and suffering more than anything.
The Meat Man will try to rip you apart piece by piece. Individual body parts can be injured, altering your abilities.
When heavily damaged, be wise! Medicine bottles are scarce. Be smart about the body parts you heal first.
When your body is entirely exhausted, any extra injury will be fatal.
Descend into the darkness and voyage through strange memories that aren't yours.
The vicious Meat Man will be hunting you. Use the environment to your advantage and hide in the darkness where he can't see you.
Mysterious white glowing doorways mark your escape. Reach them to be spared by the Meat Man.
You have no way of defending yourself. Your only choices are to run, hide, or die.
Features an original dark ambient soundtrack composed by The Nomad Communion.
Built with Unreal Engine 5.

Reviews
Full disclosure: I am quite biased in my review of this game, as I'm the composer of the game's soundtrack, and have been involved with multiple facets of development for 10+ months now. So of course I'm going to recommend you buy this game if you're in the mood for a short, spooky and absorbing horror romp. But I am also a consumer, and fan of Bassett's previous works, and so I feel my thoughts still have value. Feel free to disregard my review if this knowledge may impact your impression of it. What Dylan is providing here is a triumphant display of skill and vision; Below Nowhere is artistic, cinematic, and very intentionally designed. The game has solid atmosphere, the environments are nicely realised and the health mechanic provides a fresh spin on the hide and seek formula, even if it can be advantageous to game in some situations. The game is also just very fun to play if you're a horror junkie like me - the stealth and chase gameplay is very satisfying here. Regarding the music and sound design, I believe my contributions give the game a good sense of presence and identity. I'll be the first to point out its flaws, and there are of course areas I have yet to improve on, but overall I am more than content with what I brought to the table, and was glad to help realise a game as intricate and thoughtful as this one. Very grateful to be part of this project. It's just such a cool game. That ending sequence is metal as hell. Dylan's growth as a developer is incredibly inspiring and insightful, and has been amazing to watch unfold. He should be very proud of this game. It's a worthwhile achievement. Speaking of achievements, go for the Untouchable achievement - it's a fun challenge.
I don't really 100% understand the metaphor with the plot. But it was a stealth horror game that didn't make me want to end it all out of frustration, so kudos. Also big respect voicing the villain yourself. Always happy to see an indie dev just voicing it themselves instead of using AI.
What a fantastic piece of art I loved every second of it, it was tense as f**k the shot composition in certain scenes was outstanding as well as the fantastic music that engrossed me in every part of the game from the atmosphere to the monster chase and a special shoutout goes to the vent chase music as well that had me on the edge of my seat and had every strand of hair all stand up at once
TL;DR

Overall amazing game (5/5 ★★★★★)
I really enjoyed the experience. This is a dev who knows how to build tension and create balanced, well-paced, exciting gameplay. Additionally, if you're looking for a mysterious story of existential dread, this one is a must-play.
No Spoilers Portion

PROS

Great Atmosphere - The atmosphere was AMAZING. And the thing about this is: there are MULTIPLE ATMOSPHERES. Each level presents a new vibe that you have to adjust to. Also the lighting, level design and ambient sound design was peak.
Terrifying Enemy - The enemy in this game is frightening from start to finish. It never gets old. A lot of games you play, you understand the enemy after a few encounters, but this one was unpredictable and always terrifying!
Balanced Gameplay - The enemy AI is very well balanced. It gives you a couple chances to screw up, but it still feels relentless.
Multiple Unique Environments - I already kinda said this, but several exciting environments to explore. Every time I entered a new level I had a "wow" moment.
Cool Transitions - Amazing transitions between levels and cut scenes.
Unique Health System - Really creative health system, nothing crazy complicated, but definitely added to the experience.

SLAUGHTER MODE - Slaughter mode is a hard mode, unlocked after completing the base game. It was a really fun challenge that kept me playing for a few extra hours. Great addition! And still, the monster never became less scary. Still got my heart beating each and every time.

CONS
I want to preface this by saying, the pros heavily outweigh the cons!
Inconsistencies In Visuals - Meshes were a bit inconsistent in their levels of detail (e.g. there would be a super high poly light bulb and then a really low poly wall - things like that), but the textures were pretty consistent in resolution. Obviously this is not a big deal at all. But there is nothing else to nit-pick!

Spoilers Portion

PROS (Spoilers)

Reverse Chase - I love the part when you have to chase the monster. The whole game you are trained to run away from it, so when that is flipped on its head, it is almost scarier. Also the ticking sound effect and the alarm just add to the sense of urgency. It is great!

THE VENT CHAASEEE - HOLY CRAP I loved the vent chase scene. So much tension built with the timed doors. I like this because the whole game before this, I kept thinking to myself "I wish I could get a good look at the enemy, but whenever he is close, I am running from him", and this gave me the perfect opportunity to turn around and watch him crawling towards me while I helplessly waited for the door to open. GENIUS! I only wish it wasn't in the trailer so I didn't know it was coming! Would have hit different.

Subverting Expectations - I also loved the part where you got to play a memory. The subverted expectation when you are waiting for the "I found myself remembering" text to pop up, but instead you get to PLAY IT!! Awesome!

Mini Stories - I loved how there was a mini story to each area, and the subtle connections between them: "There is only one way out". This helped to immerse myself in each level's world.

SLAUGHTER MODE ENDING - That ending to slaughter mode was sick as hell.

CONS (Spoilers)

Monster's Voice - I didn't find the monster's voice particularly scary in my opinion, BUT the rest of the sounds he was making were terrifying.

Story A Little Abstract - Pretty mysterious story. Really cool concept about the universe restarting over and over and over, but I couldn't get a grasp on what the Meat Man represented or what the player character was experiencing during the gameplay. Was it purgatory? Was it hell? I don't know. I could just be dumb as balls and be missing something. Other than these few confusions, the story was pretty cool.

Suggestions

(SPOILER) -
Add ability to skip cut scenes in slaughter mode. I died plenty of times, and having to rewatch every cutscene in addition to replaying every level had me losing immersion since I had seen them so many times.

(SPOILER) -
I think the monster's voice could be improved by having some sort of "surround sound" effect. I don't mean his whistle or his SFX, I mean his voice itself. It also would have been extra scary if it had a reverse reverb effect, and some reverse delay or reverse echo.

这种画质还要卖这么贵 也不是很好玩 我有点接受不了
Completed the game with 69% achievements. Its a scary retro style horror game where a mad fleshy demon guy is trying to kill you and you must escape a variety of eerie underground levels. The chases were heart pounding and great story. A really fun game
I just finished my recording and my playthrough of the game which can be found on YouTube later this week under the same name as my profile. https://youtu.be/mhX-eOf5tHY I don't even know where to start with this game it was absolutely amazing the sound and music production was out of this world and I felt like there was never a dull moment needless to say I've never played a lot of horror games but recently starting up YouTube I've decided to pick them up more due to trying to expand out and I have to say that this game single handedly made me scream and panic the most in the best way possible. The way the story is crafted and put together is absolutely amazing I truly believe this game deserves so much more love and reviews and players than it currently has. I will do my best with my available resources to bring this game to the attention of my community and whatever I can on YouTube to reach people but this game was absolutely amazing the story crafting the audio the tense chase scenes the constant feeling of being panicked was absolutely amazing and I've never played a game like this. You truly have made a short work of art and I am happy that I made the decision to play this game instead of anything larger. I hope to see more content and the development process from the team. This game was truly amazing.
A little pricey for what you get, but ultimately this is a solid and tense stealth horror game that's sure to get your heart racing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_xAROf9DOQ
非常的好玩!很刺激 很吓人 很有趣 今年恐怖游戏必玩榜之一!大家快来玩!
This game deserves more attention. This is an amazing horror game that gives off such intense horror and isolation vibes and really reminds me of Amnesia The Dark Descent. I found myself being terrified of the meat man before I even saw him. The atmosphere and ambiance of this game is amazing.
