bad
Fun, but unfortunately a bit repetitive. Defintely worth a play if you like other top-down rogue-likes such as Isaac or Gungeon.
just picked this back up from the backlog after a long time and I have to say the innovation of making your own 'beats' and you are encouraged to experiment as it maximizes you damage output A music lovers peaceful game, and if anyone makes with digital music or has a MIDI pad I recommend this fully
Really nice and simple. I love how there is no map to explore and you can just go wherever you want and get there eventually. I don't like changing instruments being a reskin of the smart-bomb, it would've been awesome if it changed the weapon instead of sticking to the same 4.
Приятный музыкальный рогалик, жалко особой реиграбельности нет, даже модификации почти не меняют твой геймплей
i found out about this game via alphabetagamer, sometime before covid. now having recently graduated highschool, this game is everything 12/13 yr old me wanted. (the only thing i dont like is the way they drew the main character in the cutscene/promotional art, but that isn't gameplay related so it's not important)
Beat Blast is a creative blend of roguelite action, rhythm-based mechanics, and dungeon exploration developed and published by Woolly Walrus Games. Rather than treating music as a simple background element, the game places it at the center of the experience. Every run revolves around creating and modifying musical loops that directly influence combat, giving the game a distinctive identity that separates it from many other indie roguelites on Steam. The core gameplay takes place in procedurally generated dungeons filled with enemies, hazards, and rewards. Players move through rooms while dodging attacks and eliminating threats in fast-paced battles. What makes these encounters unique is the relationship between music and combat. As players collect new sounds and beats, they gradually build a personalized soundtrack. These musical additions are not merely cosmetic; they become part of the gameplay system, affecting offensive capabilities and creating a satisfying connection between creativity and survival. The result is an experience where every successful run feels like both a combat challenge and a musical composition. One of the most appealing aspects of Beat Blast is the freedom it gives players to experiment. The game encourages mixing different loops, effects, and sound patterns to create unique combinations. Since each run offers different opportunities and upgrades, no two sessions feel exactly the same. This roguelite structure provides strong replay value, as players constantly discover new ways to shape both their character build and the soundtrack accompanying the action. The sense of progression comes not only from becoming more powerful but also from hearing a musical creation evolve over time. Visually, the game embraces a colorful and energetic presentation that complements its musical focus. The environments are vibrant and packed with effects that enhance the excitement of combat without overwhelming the player. Enemy designs are varied enough to keep encounters engaging, and the visual feedback during battles helps players stay aware of the chaos surrounding them. Combined with the dynamic soundtrack system, the overall atmosphere feels lively and constantly in motion. The soundtrack system naturally serves as the game's biggest strength. Instead of relying on a fixed set of tracks, Beat Blast allows players to become active participants in creating the music they hear. This mechanic adds a layer of personalization rarely found in action roguelites. Watching a simple rhythm gradually transform into a fuller composition while simultaneously overcoming increasingly difficult enemies creates a rewarding feedback loop that few games attempt. However, the game's niche concept may not appeal equally to everyone. Players seeking a traditional roguelite focused entirely on combat depth may find the music-building elements more interesting than essential. Likewise, those who are not particularly interested in rhythm or sound experimentation might not fully appreciate the game's most innovative feature. Some runs can also feel dependent on the upgrades and loops acquired, leading to occasional imbalance between particularly strong and weaker combinations. Despite these minor limitations, Beat Blast succeeds because it commits fully to its central idea. The combination of music creation, roguelite progression, and arcade-style action results in an experience that feels fresh and memorable. It rewards creativity as much as reflexes and offers a unique twist on familiar genre foundations. For players interested in indie games that experiment with unconventional mechanics, Beat Blast provides an entertaining and surprisingly engaging adventure that stands out from the crowd.
