I've spent some time playing BattleCakes with my daughter recently. She's quite taken with the cute characters and the story, while I've found a nostalgic joy in the combat system - reminds me of my Final Fantasy days as a kid. A word of caution: it's engaging enough that we nearly lost track of time this morning and almost missed the school bus!
First off, this is a super cute game -- kudos to the devs for an original take. The cuteness is a bit on overload, however, even for a kawaii fan like myself. That's not the problem, though; I'd risk the cavities for this fun premise (especially the chose-your-own-adventure style) if it weren't for three things. One: it starts SO slowly. I'm a half hour in and am still doing mostly dialogue and that's just not fun. Two: There's no way to change the keybindings. For some, that's not a big deal, but for me it really is. Three: it seems very dumbed-down, as if it were geared for young children. Maybe that's what I should have expected, given how it looks, but I wasn't. I expected a turn-based RPG similar to For the King, but with pastel cupcakes and cuteness. I don't want to give a negative review when it's still in EA, but, except for the keybindings, my problem is with the basics of the game, and I don't see anyway for that to be changed, so I can't recommend it (especially at the present price). That being said, it may be your cup of tea -- this is just my opinion, of course.

It's cute, super charming, and easy to play. Perfect for if you want a nice, casual adventure in a feel good world.
You ready for a fun and lovable romp through a candy and cake world? Get your Battle Cakes on! Its adorably cute and fluffy!
I donut think you'll find a better traditional RPG built upon a fondant-ation of confectionery puns. A wholesome, whole-grained adventure, accessible for the entire family. It's not 100% ready to come out of the oven yet, but the flavor so far is fantastic!
Cute game, perfect for kids! I love that you can befriend monsters instead of fighting them :) Runs great on Steam deck!
Short but very cute game ^w^
This game is the definition of kawaii. You will get magically lost in this super cute pastry themed RPG.
game does not let me progress after i beat the firstboss, other than that its amazing
A short but sweet turn-based RPG. If you want a deep, serious story look elsewhere. But if you want a fun, silly time wrapped in a classic RPG package, you've come to the right place. The battle system is simple but fun. There were a few minor bugs I noticed, but nothing game breaking or even all that annoying. A few QoL suggestions: - An exit game button upon finishing the story. - A load saved game button, alongside the 'load previous quicksave' option - The ability to pass/defend on a turn (specifically with monsters that reflect a type of damage)
