Short Review
BARRIER X is a brutally fast dodge-and-shoot game that stopped being fun for me around level two and never really recovered. The visuals are technically impressive but become a full-on eye strain assault the moment the speed picks up, and the difficulty curve is punishing without offering much in return. The 60-second survival requirement for 100% completion is also exactly as painful as it sounds. I don't recommend this one.
Full Review
I shelved BARRIER X for years after hitting a wall in the early levels. The difficulty just overwhelmed me, and I had no real motivation to push through it. I only came back after finishing Lilac 0 (another difficult game), thinking maybe a fresh perspective would help. It didn't. Some games age better in your memory than they do on a second playthrough, but BARRIER X is just inherently flawed. The visuals. On paper, BARRIER X looks impressive. The graphics are slick, fast, and technically well put together. In practice, that same visual intensity becomes a serious problem the moment you're actually playing the game at speed. The combination of hectic movement, flashing effects, and the sheer amount happening on screen at any given moment is a lot to absorb, and after about 20 minutes of play I consistently found my eyes hurting. That's not something I say lightly. It's rare that a game physiologically affects me in a negative way, but BARRIER X managed it reliably. The visuals aren't bad in a vacuum; they're just a terrible match for the kind of sustained focus the gameplay demands. The gameplay. The core loop is dodging and shooting at increasingly punishing speeds, and the split-second decision-making required ramps up fast. There's a certain appeal to that kind of reflex-based challenge in the early going, but it fades quickly when the difficulty outpaces any sense of fun or reward. The game just gets harder without really getting more interesting, and the payoff for pushing through never materialized for me. It felt more exhausting than satisfying, which is a bad place for an arcade game to land. The achievements. If you're going for 100%, each level requires you to survive for 60 seconds. That sounds manageable until you're actually in the later stages with your eyes straining and the game throwing everything at you at once. It's not difficult in the way that feels good to overcome; it's difficult in the way that makes you question why you're doing this to yourself. Overall. BARRIER X isn't the worst game I've ever played, and I want to be fair about that. The technical presentation is solid, and there's a functional game underneath all the chaos. But it's punishing without being rewarding, visually taxing in a way that crosses from impressive into genuinely uncomfortable, and the experience left me more relieved than satisfied when it was over. If you have a high tolerance for reflex-heavy difficulty and aren't sensitive to visual overstimulation, maybe it clicks for you. For me, it didn't, and I can't recommend it. Personally, I didn't like the game, because it's harder than it needs to be. But I have to rate this game positively for the reasons: 1. Game graphics, while simple, is surprisingly charming and does not hurt eyes at all, even though it's fast paced; 2. Soundtrack is cool; 3. Main tag of the game is "difficult"/hardcore; 4. You'll realize whether you like this game or not within first 2 minutes of playing, so you'll be eligible for refund if you paid money for it, but also 5. This game is cheap anyways, goes on a sale very often, but most importantly, 6. Lots of people, including me, got this game from free Steam Store giveaway years ago.

The first level is not bad. But what happens next isn't fun; it's a battle with RNG.
хорошая игра, мне понравилась
