BottomLine at the Top: A very short P&C with a weird vibe. If you’re a true P&C aficionado and simply must play every P&C in existence and can find this on sale, then go for it but don’t be surprised if you feel you wasted your time. ------------------------------------- Pros ------------------------------------- -made with unity engine. starts right up with no initial resolution setting fiddling required. -I’d consider this an LGBT friendly game as the main story is about a male dog trying to express his true feelings for his male rabbit best friend. Not really a big deal for me but I’m sure there is a large subset of players who are looking for an inclusive game like this. -able to alt-tab out of game without any crashing or freezing ------------------------------------- Meh. ------------------------------------- -game literally makes you take a **** out of the toilet as an inventory item. Idk whether this is hilarious or just plain nasty. -Game was very short. Had the game been more interesting to play this would be a negative, but I was ready for it to be over around when it was. ------------------------------------- Cons ------------------------------------- -no voices -no music during regular gameplay or background noises. The game is eerily quiet. -lots of unnecessary waiting in this game (waiting for grandma to sit down, waiting for watering can to fill up, waiting for coffee to heat up, waiting just to move the main character.) -Help section of game does notify you that there are things which may change if you leave the screen and come back (this mainly refers to the mailboxes.) Even so, it would be easy to get stuck and not know that you had to go look at one of the mailboxes. -Between the mailbox thing and some minor pixel hunting (finding the patch of uncut grass in a yard) the walkthrough was definitely necessary. -game has no quality of life features (no double-click fast travel, no save slots, no object highlight function I read somewhere that this game was originally a free to play smartphone game. Once I read that it put me off buying it for $3. Luckily a generous member of our P&C fan group, the Coalition of Point & Clickers (check us out!) was kind enough to gift me a copy. After playing this game had I paid a full $3 when it is so often the case that you can find some high-quality P&C games on sale for that amount, I would have not been happy. That being said I am glad I got to satiate my curiosity about this game. I was wondering why it had a nudity label (luckily it turned out to be unnecessary, it would have only made the game even weirder if it did...) The sexual content label refers to a minor joke website on Barney's computer. Id overall consider the humor in the game to be a very light "leisure suit Larry" style. Overall the game had a weird vibe to it. It constantly felt like the game was building up to some more really raunchy humor, but it ended up just having a bland consistency. Bland gameplay, graphics, writing, humor. I reluctantly give this a recommendation only for the P&C diehard who needs to try every P&C game, which this absolutely is. I hate to say this, as the developer literally has himself as a panhandler in the game complaining about how no one wants to pay for games, but I can only recommend this on sale. The game wasn't terrible, but it could have been a lot more than it was. Interested to see what this developer can come up with in the future as it was a stable P&C with halfway decent art design. Barney's Dream Cruise is a funny game and its puzzles are kinda smart. But the protagonist isn't likeable at all (because of his actions) and there's only a modicum of sounds (since it lacks voice acting). Still, the price is quite low and the game is a really decent try by Gubbi Games, so you should definitely buy it! Good job, developers! Till next time, don't forget to point & click!

A fun cute little game. I love the humor and the characters. Puzzles are fairly logical. The game is short; you can finish it in about one hour or two, depending on how often you get stuck. There are no actual choices to make nor multiple endings. It could really use some music, though. (It does have music, sometimes, like in map) ** UPDATE: They've added the music. I appreciate the effort. Yeah, it's just music, but the game feels A LOT better now. If you're not sure about buying this game, you can play it for free on mobile devices. (Edit: Since the base price is really low now, just buy it, would you?)
If filling in and mailing a social security application form is something you've always wanted to experience in a point-and-click adventure game, then this game might be for you! Oh, I'm just joking. Yes, terrible joke. But if you laughed, then this game might be for you! That's the kind of humor to expect here. This is tedious and boring game. The story is dumb and also unnecessarily mean-spirited. The puzzles are overly complex and require tedious moving back and forth between uninteresting locations. I reached for the walkthrough just to be able to finish the game in order to review it. And even the walkthrough was tedious. Not fun and not funny.
I'm recommending this with a couple caveats. I got it on sale for under 60 cents so despite beating it in under two hours, it only cost me some change I dug out of the couch cushions. If it's not on sale, though, it's probably not worth it. The puzzles are either incredibly straightforward or very obtuse--as others have noted in their reviews
some require checking the same mailbox at different times and having a different outcome, etc.
and there is a LOT of backtracking. Also Barney walks slow. Be prepared to wait while he crosses the screen, for example. So yeah, not the worst way I've spent under a buck but don't pay too much.
The short version for busy or furry-avoidant people: it's a buck, it's fun and funny, it's more "cartoon animal" than "oh god that's a fetish" on the furry spectrum (with a couple of knowing nods) and you should just by it already. A walkthrough is included. Barney's Dream Cruise is a worthwhile, chortle-worthy little point and click that stands out for a couple of odd yet significant reasons: it has the good puzzles and amusing characters that are vital to a point-and click, you can't die, and it doesn't drag on. But inside a short game about taking your friend on a cruise are a couple of welcome, subtle ideas that make it especially worth a play and a bit of a gem. You play as Barney, both a cartoon dog and one of the few blue collar gay protagonists I've seen in a game. And Barney isn't just clad in overalls and hosting a rusting car on his yard. The way he looks at the world and deals with people seems a bit harsh but it made sense from the perspective of a man who struggles with how he sees himself in society and how he feels about the guy he's sweet on. He has his porn links on his desktop and uses public assistance to fund (in a roundabout way) a vacation with his one true love. Barney's bad decisions anchor the game in a way that makes it much more about character than exploration, which I liked. It's not an agenda game and the theme is in the periphery but I found that made it work very well over the course of its short runtime. Plus a nice bit of theatrical misdirection involving a gun was amusing. Pick it up if you have an hour and a half to spare over the weekend. This game is the kind of little break we all need now and again.
Positives:
- The game gives a very nostalgic point and click adventure vibe, which brought me back to when I played games like Spyfox. - The game has a great game content/price ratio. - The music is really fitting to the game. - Dialogue and story is interesting and funny.
What can be done better:
- I sometimes had either no music or no sound in like a cutscene, would be nice to have either a constant music, or have like something that looks like talking when you're in a cutscene.
Issues I had:
- Found no bugs and issues next to the to-do list being hard to read.
Accessibility:
- The game supports multiple languages next to English. - You have the ability to opt out to data collection from Unity via the settings. - Game is fully playable with mouse. - You can change your walkspeed.
