Los NPCs del juego son racistas. 10/10
Very good story, including the main story, most side quests and characters. The game offers quite a few grey morale choices, where there is no right or wrong way, which is what I liked very much. Beautiful music and decent visuals set the mood perfectly. There are a few more obvious, clear cut side quests, and there is a bit of feminism agenda, especially towards the end of the game, which was somewhat disappointing. Other weak points are the combat, which is rather repetitive, mob respawn and quite a bit of backtracking. The shadow world is too empty, there's nothing there except a few arenas with enemies and the final boss fight. Lots of missed opportunities there. Overall, I still liked the game very much, since I wasn't going into it for combat but for story and moral choices, and the game did deliver on this front.
New Eden, Amérique du Nord, 1695. I've had enough with this dumb game. It started so well, then it floundered like a corpse rotting in the sun. The more you play, the more boring and repetitive it gets. You constantly fight the same enemy in the same looking areas, with the same obstacles, the same collectibles, the same puzzles... It gets old, and to make things worse, the game forces you to backtrack a LOT the more you progress. The writing also takes a nosedive through the game. The story and the moral dilemma of the first few cases became constant exposition from characters that all look and sound the same. It's almost like they fired the writers halfway through and replaced them with the awful Bethesda writing team. Just go play (or replay) Expedition 33 instead of wasting your time with this.
Overall, this wasn't an AWFUL experience. The narrative has some great parts to it, and its always fun deciding peoples' fates. However, I found the battle system to be PRETTY annoying. The constant switching isn't as fun in execution as the idea, and the pestering Antea does reminded me of Navi from Zelda. This game is a very slow burn and it takes a while to get into it. I would give my overall experience around a 4/10. I'm not mad I played it all the way thru, but I don't see myself going back and exploring the other paths I didn't take.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is a half-rotten, half-fresh apple. The game world looks amazing, the sound design is great. Voice acting is really good. Animations are fluent and the combat is just fun, especially once you unlock all active skills. I would say it's worth playing this game just for the graphics alone. It's just a beautiful game, there's no denying that. But sadly there are quite a few issues that can massively impact your fun while playing this game. From the very first seconds you realise that you need to fix this abysmal Field of View. There are some solutions written in the forums to fix that a little bit. Then the performance starts bashing into your face. At least in the very first area I had constant stuttering and various fps drops. After a while I kinda adapted and didn't notice too much. But this game tends to lose frames the longer you play and reloading the save file usually gives you back +20 fps. Yep. The start of the game has a slow pace, but it picks up after an hour or two. Once you get to the main world and play for a little bit, you realise that this game plays like a metroidvania where many paths are Inaccessible and you have to go around and activate a shortcut or something. I didn't like the level design at all. There are many narrow pathways and blocked paths, requiring you to return to the same areas later once you have unlocked the right skill. Getting new skills forces you to do main quests and skip exploration. You are forced to do the main quest in order to unlock various exploration-opening abilities. This sucks. Quite a few areas become accessible only at the very end of the game. It's a dungeon crawler in visually open spaces. Elevator don't work? Doors - barred? Pathways - obscured? Better find a different and only way at the other end of the map that doesn't even open up until late game! But you don't know that at the time. So you waste time "exploring" empty locations. There are many locations like that where you have only one way up or down, while all other possible roads = invisible walls or just inaccessible paths. Sometimes you have to go waaaaay around to be able to get to the spot you see right in front of you. Anyway. Oh, and you can't jump down, climb up or go around if something is not marked with a yellow paint... Overall, exploration is extremely restrictive, repetitive and slow at the same time. This kills the fun out of this game way too fast. Fast travel is poorly implemented and feels like it’s only there to artificially pad out the game’s length. Some games really like wasting players' time. Some quests require a lot of fast traveling and the fast travel locations are sparse. It gets worse with some of the quests. I had to go back and forth between locations more than 4 times just to complete a simple task. Underground areas have no map, only surface ones have. Which is useless when you spend quite a lot of time in various caves and mines. Later on, you can do Void breaches, and once you finish them, they teleport you to whatever location... and in a different region... It takes a lot of time to get back to the same location to continue your exploration. Some poison ivy barricade locations doesn't even register on the minimap for later returns. Writing is not so great. Actually, it's below average. No... It's just a bit above bad. Once you have the full picture after playing through the whole story and most side quests it becomes pretty clear why. The main story and side quests are filled with numerous traces of leftist ideology. Lesbianism, sexism, autism, racism and trans allegories - everything is here, just not so "in your face" like in many woke games from the early 2020s, but still. It makes the whole game's world feel rather inauthentic. The backstories of many NPCs veil social and political commentary by depicting them as “good” or “evil”. The relationship between 2 protagonists is very unbelievable. The game never showed their love prior to the main events. The way they talk, the way the dialogues go - feels unorganic, unconvincing, dull. It's like 2 people that have met each other for the first time and have to pretend that they love each other. The devs did extremely poor job showing the love between them. They never felt like lovers, more like a mentor and apprentice. And since the main story is all about their relationship as lovers - it never gives you an impression that you should care about their relationship. I disliked Antea as a character. She's Insufferable, cocky, judgmental and narcissistic prick. And Red... is such a ♥♥♥♥♥ on many occasions. He probably would even admire Antea's big farts, while she herself would react "Yeah, I'm cool af! That's why you love me". He was badly portrayed. While the character itself has quite a badass backstory. While the main events of the game's story takes place in 1695, there is a mention of Aladdin in one of the dialogues (even though first known records of it was registered in 1709). Did the protagonist knew the future? Just an open question. Heh. ---- Overall, it's a well made game with a good quality as a whole, but the game is tainted by below average writing and quite terrible level design which makes exploration a tedious, repetitive slog.
