Banishers is a hell of a game. Imagine The Witcher 3 (morally grey decision making, combat) had a baby with Jedi Survivor (combat, exploration, maps) and you won't be far off. Where Banishers excels most is in the writing, the voice acting and the storytelling. It's a rare game: an original concept that makes you feel emotions. The combat is very satisfying, even if the enemy types are slightly more limited. Where it falls down is on the bloat. The map is not set up for the amount of back and forth traversal the side quests require. You can't mount a horse and gallop across the map - it's full of small, Uncharted style gaps to squeeze through and tunnels to duck. The Haunting Cases are all really interesting and again - very well written - but travelling around gets a little tedious at times. Having said that, it's a relatively minor gripe when the game looks, sounds and feels this good. Genuinely - the voice acting and storytelling match the very best I've experienced in video games. If you're thinking of picking it up, go right ahead.

If you like witcher 3, you would probably like this as well. I like games where a n00b as myself can experience a good story and feel like I'm awesome at combat- with as little screaming as possible. You can, of course, increase the difficulty level.
TL;DR: Interesting premise and world on a high level, but it feels like your time is not respected. Things that could be fun are dull and simplistic, while you spend a lot of time waiting, walking. Good: - Interesting premise and worldbuilding - Visuals, I really liked the way they show ghosts/echoes and the characters are fine too. - Good stories, fairly interesting dialogue. - You can change ocmbat difficulty, so at least that can be challenging. Not great: - Investigating ghosts is pretty boring. Very straightforward go to X, do Y, continue. You really don't have to solve a puzzle or do any kind of thinking. The game tells you very obviously how to progress. - Open world with not too much to do, so you spend most of your time just running from A to B, interrupted with occasional fights or picking up roadside loot. Especially boring when you are following the footsteps of a ghost. Oh, and there are these "Press E to squeeze through" obstacles. Again, no challenge, just drags out the time you spend with going to the next place. - You can't interact with the next objects until the current dialogue is completed. You can't skip it, so it especially feels like the design is to waste your time on uninteresting comments. - The ritual part is a drag. You have to pick from 3 options, but it is strongly hinted which one is needed. If you choose the wrong one, nothing happens except an "I failed" comment. Again, feels like it's just here to spend your time waiting on a 30 secs long animation for the 100th time.

I gave up close to the end because I just couldn't bare it anymore. The combat is just so boring and the world filled with Ubisoft-esque tasks that the amazing environment and story telling couldn't make this game alright. What a shame.

Très bon jeu qui mériterait d'être plus connu. L'histoire est intéressante et originale, et le jeu est très beau. Les quêtes annexes sont également réussies et valent la peine d'être faites. Le jeu reste assez simple dans ses mécaniques de loot et de combat, et le bestiaire est d'ailleurs assez limité. Certaines actions peuvent devenir assez répétitives, mais avec une durée de vie d'une vingtaine d'heures, cela ne devient jamais vraiment gênant. Le doublage Français est excellent !
