Banishers ghosts of new eden is a supernatural action rpg made by dont nod . first i would like to tell what i feel good about this game . the story of this game is very good and it also has a really good choice system which i cant tell more about without spoiling about it . l the music in this game is very dark and emotional . however there are some major problems with this game , the open world activities and map navigation is a nightmare in this game . u literally have to open the map every 10 seconds to see where u are going next also there is so much backtracking in this game for side activities that it becomes a slog and the pathetic fast travel system does not help with that too. u can literally fast travel only through a campfire which there are not too many present on the map . the open world aspect of this game really holds back the true potential of this game . so if you are a completionist i would warn u that u will suffer so much doing the 100 percent of this game , i would suggest to enjoy the main story and haunted cases in this game that is where is this game shines the most . overall if you ignore the side content its a really good game . 8/10
Vampyr is still a better game for me, but this one is also very good and deserves your attention. The story, narrative, suspense, and setting are all on point. Support this game, support this team, we lack teams that know how to write. More and more empty-headed people are writing, failing to realize that story and emotion are the pillars of a good RPG. You’ve done the 20th century and the 17th century . It’s time for some Middle Ages with werewolves or witchcraft come on guys, Don't Nod, I have faith in you.
I can comfortably recommend this game during deeper discounts, i would not recommend it at full price. When i was first looking into this game i saw comparisons to the Witcher 3, yes it is a dark RPG and you do investigations, but the similarities end there. If i had to make a comparison, the gameplay and exploration feels the closest to the new gen God of War games. The controls, level design even combat feel sometimes like a copy even. Then you mix in the dark RPG elements with investigations and you get this game. I have seen other reviews mention that the game is too dragged out for its own good and i can feel it already 8 hours in. The exploration and level design are not that amazing, it is semi-linear just like GoW, there is backtracking. It does feel more like a chore between the story beats. The combat aint bad but im never looking forward to fights either. The main driving force are just the stories for me. On the topic of story, you can feel the ruthless dark atmosphere which is great. Im yet to feel any meaning or consequences to my choices, the game is very transparent from the start that your choices will affect the ending, but i would like to see some immediate consequences as well. Right now i have made some pretty messed up choices on purpose and nobody seems to care so far. This pretty much sums up the game all the way up to defeating the first major boss, i might edit the review upon full completion if anything changes. EDIT after finishing the game: The first 8 hours did feel slow, but after the game opened up it turned into grocery shopping, meaning you follow a list of tasks and walk a LOT. The stories were interesting but progressing them was a big chore. It felt like every investigation involved 15 minutes of walking and dull repetitive combat. I did all of the investigations and still managed to finish the game fairly quickly in the end, but it was still pretty rough. As other reviews have mentioned this could have been a solid 10-15hr story focused experience instead of this semi-open world chore checklist. Still i stand by my recommendation, during big discounts this game is worth experiencing, but have your expectations straight.
Despite being "wokish" (6.5/10), the game is fun. It has a good story, you have a good margin of freedom of choice. In today's game industry it can be called a good game (storywise).
Fantastic writing. Solid gameplay. Eleven stars out of ten, no notes.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has meat on the bone, but there's also plenty of fat. Without going into spoiler territory, it's safe to say that Banishers is an adventure game set in the immersive and atmospheric world of 17th-century New Eden, a haunted region of colonial America. As Banishers, it's your job to rid the land of restless spirits while simultaneously navigating the emotional relationship between the two protagonists, Red and Antea. Where the game truly shines is its haunting, yet strangely cozy atmosphere, accompanied by beautifully eerie music and sound design that perfectly complement the world-building. Traversing the handcrafted world feels immersive, and that sense of adventure and discovery is ever-present whenever you venture into a newly discovered region. The narrative is undoubtedly the backbone of the experience, with its story and characters providing more than enough reason to stay invested from beginning to end. The player is also presented with plenty of meaningful narrative choices that genuinely make you stop and think before making a decision, which is always welcome in an RPG. Despite all that—and despite me recommending the game—it does overstay its welcome. Banishers has a habit of wasting the player's time. Fast travel points are few and far between, resulting in a considerable amount of backtracking that serves little purpose beyond running from one objective to another. I actually appreciated that the game itself jokes about Banisher work involving endless running around, but acknowledging the issue doesn't make it any less noticeable. The second major offender is the combat. While perfectly serviceable at first, it gradually becomes repetitive due to the sheer number of encounters and the fairly limited enemy variety. This is especially noticeable during the latter half of the game, when backtracking becomes more common and enemies start feeling increasingly spongy. The combat system itself is relatively simple, and because the game leans on it so heavily, it eventually turns into a chore rather than something to look forward to. On the technical side, the game ran smoothly for the vast majority of my 58-hour playthrough, although I did experience three or four crashes along the way. Ultimately, Banishers is at its best when it focuses on its strengths: the narrative, the atmosphere, the world-building, and the relationship between its two protagonists. Unfortunately, whenever it tries too hard to become a "Witcher-lite" experience, its lack of mechanical depth becomes apparent. It's a solid 7/10 adventure game. I picked it up on sale and don't regret the purchase, but by the end I found myself pushing through to the credits as the constant backtracking and increasingly tedious combat had begun to wear out their welcome.
《Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden》是一款讓我感到非常可惜的遊戲。
